Yet when the pressure was on and we had to win the games to win the league the team let us down. Same with the champions league final last year. Those are my over riding memories now. So near, yet so far.

id still rather be back there, and bottle it than not turn up against teams we should be beating comfortably. its getting to that point again where i dont care about the team, like when we had adebayor, kaboul, capoue etc. just such a disconnect with the club, when we should be ecstatic about new stadium, recent champs final etc.

He looked like an 8 in a lot of the videos people posted - considering Emery (not that many will think it's much to go on) tried him even deeper than that at his time at PSG he clearly had the ability - he's proven that since. We bought two of the same player last summer and I don't have the first clue why.

He had his best season as a 10 though ??‍♂️

Yet baring the last game looked like our best central mid playing 8 ... Looks natural there when he isn't being asked to do more than he can handle.

Probably just bump him to the ten role then and play Winks next to Sissoko, it'll be fine.

I'm surprised this hasn't been tried yet. I really don't think playing those 3 wingers in the front line all at once is the way forward. The balance is wrong.

@JUSTINSIGNAL I will say it's probably how they (Poch, scouts etc) envisioned all of this in the summer which brings us back to the Ndombele sized hole in central mid.

Yeah, I can see that, think it speaks volumes on how poorly made up the midfield is.

Yes, I believe Lo Celso was signed to play at 10 and NDombele as an 8. In fact, if Poch had been successful with the diamond this season we would have probably seen Dele, NDombele, Lo Celso and Winks/Sissoko all lining up together.

That would have filled many fans with confidence I feel.

I don't know why I did it to myself but I compared this year's league table to that of 15/16, 16/17, and 17/18.

We've fallen off a fucking cliff.

What continues to baffle me is how easy we seem to make it for teams to either cross the ball into danger areas or get round the back of us, whereas we seem to struggle to do the same at the other end!!!
We don’t seem to close them down quickly enough giving them time & space to do their damage.

I think we used interest in Fernandez as leverage to get Betis to stop pissing about with the Lo Celso deal.
That looks like a very stupid decision now... what is the fucking transfer committee anyway who on it has any idea what they are doing?

Why is that a stupid decision? We wanted Lo Celso and Betis were pissing around. ITK at the time said they named a price, we agreed and then they upped it (more than once). We'd already done a load of dosh on Ndombele so no way we would buy GLC and Fernandez. We got GLC who was our preferred choice. At the time we were also not sure Eriksen was leaving.

People keep saying the players are lazy. I don't think they are, I just don't think they are intelligent enough nor capable of a strong leadership mentality. You need both of those for a strong defensive unit. Unfortunately our attack is the same.

Can only hope Jose finds some players who are stronger. Our scouts don't just need to be looking for quality they need to be looking for leaders and players with higher intelligence.

I've been asking myself who in our squad looks like they have a tactical muscle in their head? I've got to be honest I struggled to answer it.

It didn't matter so much under Poch (I'm not saying it doesn't matter) as the collective all worked together that we rarely need XI independent thinkers, one or more players would trigger a press the rest would do the same it became a muscle memory exercise, both fullbacks would follow the lead of the other one. Nothing Poch did was unable to be replicated it's just drills, practise, training and hard-work, it's just taken the legs out of a lot of them.

Under Jose it's like they've been asked to understand quantum mechanics and nuclear fusion whilst rubbing their tummies and patting their heads, except it's not a Jose thing as these issues started setting in December/January 2019.

Football is a simple game (it's not like Sheffield did anything complicated) but our identity has been left in the parking lot 2 years ago. We need a bulk shift of players but last time we bought in massive numbers with the Bale money that didn't work out great either.

Strangely I thought we'd be better with no crowd because that to me would show it's a pressure thing, it's like this lack of silverware is a massive anchor around the clubs feet.
Somehow Mourinho needs big investment and then to win something here even if it's by the ball going into the net off a players arse. And when we do that we need to immediately invest again, so we aren't sitting still. I'm not holding my breath.

But we're miles off winning anything at the moment so I've no clue how we get there from what I saw against Sheffield UTD.

Except it isn't. We have a simple defensive strategy and no discernable plan of how to attack. They're probably bemused by the fact that there is no apparent plan to follow.
