Didn't move to Saudi Arabia for the money, oh please, i'd have respect for him if he said he wanted a payday to end a gruelling career at the top level.

What positive change is that melt going to make?

Oh fuck off you insufferable prick. Wants to be the victim all the while being paid £700k a week. Wanker.

The ego on this prick. Imagine thinking that what is essentially a medieval theocracy, that’s built it’s power up by brutalising it’s population, funding and training terrorists and chopping up journalists, would in any way take on the opinions or morals of a man who to them is basically just a highly paid servant. He‘s a paid puppet of a despicable regime, he’s literally there to promote them.

He’s a past it footballer, he’s not going to affect the geo-political conundrum that has thwarted the minds of the greatest diplomats and world leaders for the better part of 70 years.

Fucking cretin.

And if it’s not for the money, presumably he’ll be donating anything above his previous Liverpool wages to charity?

Whatever his reason and one day he might come clean on the real reason which we all know, he's hardly likely to disrespect the league he's playing in and the team he's playing for by fessing up he couldn't give a fuck and only came for the money.

He could have just said nothing? Unless, of course, he's contractually obliged to put this sort of stuff out. And if he was happy to sign a contract that included that sort of obligation...

EDIT: Not sure if this was in a presser or something he put out himself? If it was the former I guess that makes it a bit harder to just say nothing!

It appears that he feels hurt and upset that people aren't happy for him - after all, didn't he wear the t-shirt and rainbow laces, what more do people want?!!?!?!?! :cautious:

Posted this in the takeover talk thread but I guess it might be worth putting it in here.

With the new Saudi league action I'm not sure Premier league clubs values will increase over the next decade. Players will follow the money, it's basically why they come here and why the odds are that they'll go to Arabia and the Premier league's profile will fall.

It's possible, but the Saudi League has a lot of catching up to do and I'm not yet convinced.

Interesting point. We’ll see if promising or established stars at the earlier stages of their career start going there, before they’ve won things in Europe, then that’ll be the start of the decline , but so far, little sign of that.

Not to say it won’t happen, but at the moment the chance of proper trophies in a major European league allied with PL money seems to be holding sway until players pass their peak. Maybe irs just a matter of time though.

This is only the first year of the real move to bring in players and they have so much money that I wouldn't be surprised if they channeled a megaton of that cash into UEFA to expand the champions league so they could participate, or just set up an alternative.
It is also worth bearing in mind the influence agents have on the game and their players.
I think the Premier league ignores it at their peril.

I remember Assou-Ekotto once coming out and being honest saying football was a job to him. Would honestly respect these players more if they just said it was for the money and to secure their family's future for generations.

We all know why they went, just be up front and honest.

I read something yesterday that clubs are going to FIFA to get involved in making sure they get paid by the Saudis for the players they have bought. Hilarious if they renege on the payments. Actually I hope they do
