Mexican fans were very critical of his performance the other night against Jamaica, especially of his first touch

If we have targeted him it's going to be for good reasons. I won't go over what all my die hard Mexico supporting mates are saying, because unless he was playing the same way Ange is going to require him to play it's pretty much irrelevant. Some players fit some systems and philosophies far better than the fit others. If we have indeed gone in for him you'd like to think this was a big part of why we have.

I share peoples caution, his highlight reels show some stunningly bad keeping.

That said, his movement and the positions he takes up in the box both look top notch.

Outside of Sonny, we really lack those qualities.

Yes tbf the general consensus is Mexico’s style of play is long ball and Gimenez is quite isolated so granted not playing to his strengths at all

As others have said this is definitely one I can see happening. I'm not super keen personally but happy to trust in the data/recruitment team's assessment that he can fit Ange's philosophy and adapt to the demands of the league.

It probably means we have decided to get one of Neto/Eze rather than both though. Which is slightly disappointing.

Feyenoord under Slot resembles a close comparison with Ange's Spurs so it's fair to contrast his performances at club level to what he would likely bring here as opposed to the National team.

Does seem a long standing target from Ange/the club so whilst I also share the concerns of others about his viability to spearhead our attack, I will trust the recruitment acumen along with Ange endorsing it.

Does eliminate one more non-HG spot and I really only see another 2 signings (Neto/Doue/Calafiori/Ederson) with our quota restraints unless we see someone unexpected leave like a Bissouma/Deki.

If Ange wants him then my amateur evaluation of him being a bit of a donkey is neither here nor there.

It is a good thing most people on here think he is garbage as that normally means the complete opposite and they do amazing 😂.
Exactly. The guy's looked like a bloody clogger every time I've seen him.

He'll smash it if he does join. The anti-Soldado.

I do think it's the contrast with Troy in the Eredivisie which compounds people's reasoning for being hesitant on any deal for Gimenez - especially when HG/CT is such a fundamental issue for squad building this summer.

I am choosing to class that report as inaccurate, not due to having any knowledge of the validity of the journo or his track record, but solely because I don’t want us to sign Gimenez.

I find this helps me get through the transfer window.

I haven’t watched any of him at all outside a few YouTube videos.

From the people and publications that I think have relatively good observations it sounds like he’s not that good a player but has some strengths.

So if we are buying him with a plan where his strengths and attributes fit then he could be a good signing.

If it’s back to buying because the best we can get then it could be a bad one.

Could be but I sort of feel the HG thing is more key component of the Eze deal. If that falls through I’d imagine we would go strong for another HG option. What’s for sure is I don’t see us getting Santi, Doué and Neto as that would likely be our 3 potential non HG spots taken up in attack and at a guess I reckon one would be set aside for a CM/DM or FB. Also if we get a CF then Son certainly stays LW which lessons the need for another one if if they also play AM.

Anyway let’s see if anything comes out of Holland. The report could be way off but figured it was worth posting given the country of origin.

If Calafiori and Murillo are out of reach perhaps we go for a HG LCB such as Kilman or Struijk.

Or perhaps Garner as DM/RB assuming Gray is out.

Well I don't care much about national team performances. We had dos Santos, Paulinho, Lo Celso etc...
