Can't help thinking that if he had got the move to us things would possibly turned out very differently for him.

I guess we'll never know. I am sceptical though because I don't think you go from being a hard-working kid with a great attitude to acting like that just over not getting one transfer. He must've had issues before then too. And to be honest, even if he didn't, someone who can completely go off a cliff onto a path of self-destruction over one incident like that probably didn't ever have the mental strength required to compete at the top level anyway. Talent only gets you so far.

I still wonder about him and enjoy how far we've come since being linked with him

Aye, just getting him away from the west Midlands comfort zone would have probably had a positive effect for one, although London is hardly without its own temptations.

A real sliding doors moment and had we got him, we may not be in the situation of needing a Kane back up.
You get the feeling something else would have happened with him, though. Maybe Poch could have kept him on track, maybe not.

Can't help but think he would have not worked out for us. I felt his attitude was wrong when he threw a hissy fit when his club wouldn't sell him. A professional signs a contract with the club and till it expires I would expect them to give 100% regardless of whether or not a bigger club is interested in them. His behavior was poor and Poch was only looking for people with a certain mindset.

Possibly, but it felt like a great match. Wasn't he playing with Kane in the u21's at the time?
Yeah, they did have a nice combo going in the U21s. Who the hell knows? We might have won the title that year with a few extra goals in key games. That 1-0 loss to Leicester at the Lane, we had so many chances to beat them.

have you read the article about him (athletic)?

he had a tough childhood and I think it spills out at times, it was a good read how his team mates love him but hate him. Aparentley his turning things around.

He was great the season before we tried to buy him, and I feel sorry for him that he didn't get his big move. He obviously handled it all very badly.

Then again, I have no sympathy for people who drink drive.

Yes including Hugo.
