Benrahma no doubt is a skill full player. Many specifically Algerians and other North African countries are producing a production line of great players.
He does remind me of M Edwards however Edwards imo looks the better player. Left footed and playing European football Edwards seems to have come on tremendously we might have scored an own goal with him maybe for the sake and or benefits of his own development.

I love Coco and his aggression and shithousery over the years - but that somewhat masks what has been a generally disappointing Spurs career with the odd flash of brilliance. We were all very excited when he came in, and he has never quite been the player we wanted/expected - and let us not forget, when we were good (very good), he was just a squad player at best. As we still need to push on with the rebuild/refresh, he is a key candidate to be replaced by a hungry, younger player that could grow with the squad. Therefore shipping Lamela out for someone like Benrahma makes sense to me. Lamela is not going to get any better and isn't going to win us titles - I still love the little scamp though...

There seem to be a section of fans that think Lamela has some truly special magic but not once in his Spurs career has he consistently shown that. He might have 1 or 2 special moments per game, but generally speaking he flits in and out, gives away silly fouls and does much more average stuff than really good things.

I think he's a useful player to have around as he loves the club, runs his heart out and always puts in a shift - along with providing a goal or an assist every 3/4 games. But I've never once seem Lamela 'boss a game' against anyone, let alone some of the top teams in the league/Europe.
100% spot on couldn't have put it any better and completely agree.

Alongside many of our players, there's good attitude and grit, but not consistent enough quality.

Both in terms of attackers and midfielders, we regularly look short of players who you'd describe as technically accomplished and intelligent (i.e. in their decision making).
Agree. Its time we were a bit more 'ruteless' as Roy Keane puts it and if you're not good enough in terms of tactically, technically and attitude then you're out or you're certainly not a contender for first XI.

Just use Liverpool as an example, all of their 1st XI and a good 5-6 subs are very good tactically, technically and from an attitude standpoint, this is also why players such as James Milner are so valuable and often underratted. Same with their entire midfield 3 actually : Fabihno, Henderson and Winjaldyum.

But back to the point, the likes of Lamela and Winks who work hard etc but don't consistently enough show quality should be squad players at best for us, this Benrahma guy has so much end product and he works hard, would be a fantastic signing if we can make it work.

Who’s our next manager?

Imagine getting him and Ollie Watkins together.Knowing one another’s game could be useful if needed.

song was shite but as someone who only saw the Fulham match the kid looks incredible. Still I don’t think we buy him if we don’t feel like punting 15m on Eze.

I thought for a worrying second we’re giving Saido Berahino a route back to the Premier League!

We seem to have developed some weird hybrid footballers recently. Lamela is an attacking midfielder who is aggressive and hard working but not very productive.

Sissoko is a central midfielder who can't pass or score and spends most of his time as a right back.

Aurier is a right back who plays as a right winger.

Sessegnon seems to not be fancied as a left back or a left winger, but we don't play with wing backs.

Must be very hard to build a balanced side.

Recruitment at Spurs is recently pretty dire.

No thanks.

Watched a lot of Brentford this season and while Benrahma is an electric and fun player to watch he definitely wouldn't fit. Can be lazy in his defensive work but most importantly he's the type of player that needs a lot of the ball to be successful. Brentford often try to funnel the ball towards him and try and give him ample opportunity for him to make things happen. I can't see that happening when he is no longer the team's go-to option (he certainly wouldn't be here) and I can't see half of what he attempts working out against PL defenses.

That said I'd be all for signing Watkins. Think he's almost perfectly purpose built for what we need.

Poor mans Marcus Edwards?
Jeez some people need a reality check.
Honestly I’d love to get a unbiased (eg not a Spurs fans) view of Marcus Edwards. I’m sure it would be more like ‘who?’ than ‘yes, the new Messi until spurs mucked him about’
If he’s the poor mans Marcus, does that mean he has a worse attitude, or that he’s achieved less success?
Would love to understand this better
Simply he's been plucked from lower French league (I believe, correct if wrong) to play in the English Championship. ME is from the PL now playing in Portuguese top league. If you want to compare to say Mahrez, then he's going to have to work harder to play in for a top team. Same as Marcus Edwards funnily enough. It would be great to see both succeed, they're capable of acts of absolute beauty.

Looks like a decent player. One to keep an eye on next season wherever he ends up.

Ok
To be honest I think Marcus Edwards would be incredibly chuffed to be compared to Said Benrahma in terms of career right now (maybe he wouldn’t- maybe that’s the problem with him).

Wherever Benrahma ends up next season, I’d expect him to be the creative force of his team. I expect it to a PL team.
I’m drawn to players like this, I guess because you don’t want to pass on the next big thing, only to see them go on to great things somewhere else.
That’s the debate with Eze too, and Aarons to some extent.
I wouldn’t be sad if we bought all of them

His highlight reels aren’t particularly impressive. He’s right footed, loves a step over and trickery but barring 1 nice finish into the top corner all of his other goals were penalties, tap ins or poor keeping. As a comparison Mahrez is way more impressive.

Looks like the kind of player who can pull some magic out of the locker and get the fans off their seat. Isn't this what we've been craving? He'll end up somewhere else and set the league on fire and we'll be complaining we didn't sign him ?
