Bit early but seeing as the automatic selections were finalised today it seems a good time for a thread.

These are the 9 automatic picks:

1Rory McIlroy (NI)
2Henrik Stenson (Swe)
3Victor Dubuisson (Fra)
4Jamie Donaldson (Wal)
5Sergio Garcia (Spa)
6Thomas Bjorn (Den)
7Justin Rose (Eng)
8Martin Kaymer (Ger)
9Graeme McDowell (NI)

Now it's down to Captain McGinley to make his 3 picks.

My money is on Donald, Poulter and Westwood although Stephen Gallagher was the closest to miss out and Francisco Molinari is another name to miss out.

Don't personally think Donald or Poulter should get called up but I'd wager they will.

So it's Gallagher, Westy and Poulter. Luke Donald misses out.

Looking forward to this, not as overly Europe biased this time as if the Americans won it I wouldn't be too disappointed because Tom Watson is a real gentleman.

Good picks by McGinley imo. Gallacher is in great form, Poulter's record in Ryder cups is excellent, and Westwood has all the experience in the world.

Something about the Ryder cup. Not very often golf has you fist pumping towards the tv. Think I nearly woke the kids up last time when Rose sunk that monster putt against Michelson at the 17th, and that was just to just to halve the hole!

Last one was a real classic with Olazabel and the whole Seve tribute, and a simply mind blowing last day, never seen anything like it, super excited for Gleneagles.

Last time was truly incredible sporting viewing and a real privilege to have watched it as it happened.

European's huge favourites but I sincerely hope America brings it big style as it's always better to have a close contest - personally think Woods not around is a major blessing in disguise and will provide USA a better team ethic and allows Mickelson to be the leader.

Agree, Phil as the driving force is almost like having Watson or Nicklaus playing, I have a sneaky that Watson is secretly happy with the way this has turned out with Woods.

The thing people seem to forget about last time was that Europe were huge favourites going in but before that incredible last day we were on course for a crushing defeat.

I'd say we're favourites again but massively need to improve our four ball and foursome play from last time. It's always been a strength before so hopefully we can get it back again.

Don't watch much golf outside the majors but always love the ryder cup

I wonder if part of the reason we aren't a hot on the team side of the game nowadays is that a lot of the players play on different tours meaning they don't spend much time together.

Also the schedule is so gruelling too meaning there is limited downtime for the players.

I think this is why its so important to have players that can bring the team together like Poulter.

Well I am off to Scotland tomorrow staying with friends and have tickets for one day as well as the last practice day. It will be nice to get away from the football for a week

I think the Europeans are too confident, fancy the Yanks to knick it but the odds on a 14-14 draw at 11/1 appeal to me

Rickie Fowler to be top USA points scorer at 5/1 appeals to me also

Like the Ryder cup hate Sky's OTT coverage - they ruin sport these days with their bloated repetitive coverage

The lack of respect from our journalists towards Watson this week has been disgraceful.
