Agree. We look out for talent and sometimes it pays off (Bale, Madrid, Dele to name a few recent examples) and many times it does not. It's easy in hindsight to say "we should not have paid this much money" but that's lazy. Whether our youth scouting system has been up to par over the last 10 years is a slightly separate debate, but most would agree that that is something we actually did reasonably well until Pochettino left. Numerous talented players have come through our ranks and over the last 6 years we seem to have prioritised more experienced players, under Mourinho and Conte. Our (and other big club's) interest during the summer after he had excelled in the Championship made complete sense. He then struggled to make an impact on games in the PL, with it seeming apparent (to me and plenty of others) that he wasn't defensively good enough at LB or offensively good enough at LW to cut it in the PL...at least not yet. I honestly think he would have made a better LM, in an old-school 4-4-2, than LB/LWB/LW in a modern system.
It seemed we were one of the only clubs to not cool their interest after his initial season in the PL, which made me extremely nervous when his signing was announced. It seemed like he was signed as a player with general long-term potential, rather than to play in a specific position, at a time when we were in desperate need of improving our matchday squad. It never really seemed that anyone at the club knew what position his development should be focused on.
I actually think there is a pretty good player there. Unfortunately every time he played it left me feeling like he didnt trust his body enough to go that little bit further than he was comfortable with. I also got the feeling he refused to play through even a bit of pain.
If you didn't trust your body you're not going to force yourself to play through pain.
Nonsense - Regi is a far superior player. Not even close. On the subject of fees for left backs, I’d argue Reguilon for £30m was a worse deal….
He’s just never been good enough whereas Ryan’s problem was a career-changing injury
Definitely up there with the champagne ham postSurely that's the most funnies a post has got in SC history?(Deserving winner if so)
Has there been any indication if he's over his injury problems and might at least get a pay as you play deal somewhere for a season, or is he done?
One of them was in the Europa Conference League, he made a big noise about being "back" (did the pre-match press conference and everything) and got sent off.No longer a spurs player
Now watch him be injury free for the rest of his career
He averged 11 games a season with us and I can only remember about 5 of them
That would be a really good move for him, I’m sure McKenna would have done his homework alreadyThink O keefe said Ipswich were interested.
