Don’t know whether you’ve seen Mourinho’s post match press conference? I may be reading too much into it, but he didn’t seem exactly thrilled when they asked him about Bale and Reguilon.

Now I’m not suggesting that he didn’t want them ( I don’t believe any manager wouldn’t want Bale), but he intimated that although they are great players they do not solve the weaknesses in the squad you described. And the subtext for me is that if we don’t fill those gaps ( almost certainly CF and CB) he is not going to be satisfied.
He called Bale one of the best players in Europe and say Reguilon was incredible last season?

I think it's been widely reported since (and mentioned among ITK via the Goat) that this is the case.

I'm happy with the purchase of Regulion and obviously it's amazing to see Bale back in a Spurs shirt - but this happens so often with this fan base - the shiny things are put front and center and as a whole folk lose sight of the bigger picture.

I reckon the pressure is on now, yesterday was pretty clear how poor we are centrally both in midfield (it tightened up after Gio came on) and the center of defense ... It was like watching Spurs after Mourinho had just taken over - incisive going forward but wide open defensively.

We better get a wiggle on.

I know. Like I said, I’m not saying he’s unhappy we’ve signed them. Just that he sees other areas as more important, despite how good they are.

To be fair to Ally Gold, he only mentions the release clause as a reference point. Dias might well be far too expensive this window but several ITK's said we are possibly going to try, pending out-goings

Especially considering the financial state of Benfica, I think this will rumble on until the end of the window.

I'm probably chatting a load of shit, but I'm not sure Jose rates Toby that highly anymore. I know he's just signed a new contract, but with his mate already at Benfica, I wonder if we try to negotiate some type of swap deal for Dias...

I agree with you here. It was obvious that Toby had lost a lot of pace, but when Davies barbecued him the other week against Everton and Richarlison missed what was effectively an open goal, he looked like he was running backwards.

think those knee injuries have taken his initial burst of pace and his jumping ability which makes him vulnerable in the air and to balls over the top, needs to play alongside Sanchez so his pace can make up for it against teams who have pace in behind

I saw it as he wanted to praise the team that was out there rather than trying to overshadow them with talk of the new boys.

Standard manager stuff really.

Dier was originaly a CB Mourinho see's him as a CB and Dier wants to play CB. Mourinho has promised Dier a run of games there. Give him time he's a better CB than DM but it takes time playing CB consistently to see consistent performances. Sanchez is the issue not Dier Sanchez doesn't read the game and is always relying on Pace to get him out of trouble which when the opposition have Pace as well isn't helpful

Spot on

So that’s Weghorst and Dias, the 2 players many were hoping would see us wrap the window up, seemingly ruled out! ?

Yeah maybe, but it was a the bit about the squad being a puzzle and that we’ve yet to make that puzzle. Was quite telling imo.

I think again he may mean he’s trying to find his best line-up still and the best balance (might also be alluding to Dele being a round leg in a square hole at moment too! ??).

He LOVES Bale and Reguilòn is a top quality left back so can’t see him being unhappy with them.

So us sitting on our hands while the glaring holes in the squad continue to be untouched means we're still not where he wants this squad to be.

I'm in agreeance with you on this - I wouldn't mind but it's been mooted by ITK but folk seem happy to ignore it.

Just keeping the pressure up on Levy to deliver the players we really need, and have needed for a long time. Bale and Reguilon are great signings but both opportunistic rather than essential.

I think this would be another opportunistic signing.

We like him, he apparently likes us and if we can shift defenders (Rose, CCV & Foyth), it would free up budget and a squad place. It would then come down to agreeing a reasonable fee and that hinges on Benifica's financial woes and what cash they need to balance the books. It's a very Levy deal and I'd expect this to be a late deal given the circumstances as lots of dots to join.

We'll probably make do until we know the answer, unless there ia urgency on our back up options.

no chance this happens. Benfica wouldn't allow him to leave for less than the clause and that is 88M EUR. even without UCL, Benfica has presidential elections the coming month, they have had defensive problems as of late, no way they are willing to negotiate their best defender.
I told you. also have no idea how a lot of you came up with the idea that Benfica had a need to sell. sure, missing UCL is a setback but Benfica has been a well run club for a while now, having made enormous sales in the recent past so there was no reason to believe they would have had approached the market banking on the fact that they'd qualify for UCL. they will probably be sellers (and Vinicius might well be the striker we go for since Jesus doesn't rate him) but Dias is their best player (in my opinion of course, considering the state and balance of the squad) and his departure for a negotiated price would be detrimental for Vieira's (Benfica president) candidacy.
