Top article, proper good read.

Nice to see how it is that he deals with it and how he doesn't let it affect him.

That was a good read.

However I'm not sure how I would manipulate the situation if somebody called me a "paki".

Good article, however one thing I would argue with is his own sweeping generalisations.

He says "now this was not jeering or them hurling abuse, it was people laughing at what I had done to their malicious gesture" and "I had now converted them into in my role as an entertainer."

Didn't he say that it was just one person who said the N word? I'd imagine that if some idiot in the Park Lane said something like that, and a player reacted in the way Ricketts did, the majority would appreciate what they were doing, and indicate their approval by cheering or laughing. Not exactly the same as winning the fans over.

Also have to say that his comment about running through the game before it's happened made me laugh. I imagine it went something like "right..I'm playing for a pub team in a micky mouse tournament, and I'm on the bench...where did it all go wrong..."

Well to be fair I can't imagine being in that situation and I think that he has obviously learnt through experiences how to deal with these type of people not to say that would always work, but well done to him and he may have actually done some good and changed a few ignorant minds there.

Well done RR for defusing the situation so well!

As has been pointed out tho, not every racist slur has an easy comedy get out.

And RR to be a top journo when he has finished playing? Id guess so and as an ex player/journeyman, he will no doubt get lots of inside info and interesting exclusive interviews!

Good read all round really!

Good article, top man.

How did he managed to swing the banana around using his mouth though?

I respect his stance but totally disagree with how he delt with it. Do the PAOK fans now expect a similar show of baffoonery if they call another black player a nigg*r?

Hard for him though

Eh, I agree to a certain extent.

But, while he does seems to be condoning such words, words are just words, and are only powerful when you assign meaning to them. Yes they said a word that has v. negative connotations, but he reacted well to it, minimizing the meaning. Its the underlying attitudes and hate/ fear that really needs to be addressed. I think by increasing understanding and communication that this can be improved. And to a certain extent, thats exactly what Rohan did with his humor, he probably made a fan or two there shift slightly their opinion about a player of his race.

No, I don't like black people so haven't watched it.

Kidding! - didn't realise that he also made the spelling mistake. Apparently two wrongs are now right.
