Does anyone have an ounce of respect for this man? Because I don't.

"Savage says" is the biggest pile of BS I've ever watched.. It's worse than Football Focus yet I didn't think that was possible. FYI this is his latest post: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21245257

Lots of the pundits have very low IQs but I think he's the worst of the lot. On top of that all I remember him from his playing days is being able to foul players.

Punditry in British football needs a shake up. Most of them have gotten so comfortable in their job. Either that or they were awful from the very start. Gary Neville's been a breath of fresh air along with some others and he really shows how far research and proper analysis can go, instead of Match of the Day's constant 'Say what you see' policy of analysis.

I remember Savage chasing Justin Edinburgh all around Wembley in 1999 with the sole intent of getting him sent off - and succeeding.
I remember him provoking that most honest and decent of footballers, Dion Dublin, so much that he also eventually snapped and got sent off.

When he decided he wanted to leave Birmingham City for more money he played the sympathy card and lied to get a transfer to Blackburn Rovers, saying he wanted to be nearer to his chronically sick parents - it turned out Blackburn was actually 30 miles further away and there was nothing wrong with his parents, they were in the best of rude health.

Last week, on 606, he admitted to constantly getting in the ear of referees, saying it was his job to put pressure on them to get decisions. All this, apparently, is fair game to Savage - and I hate him for it.

We are all well aware of society getting dumber every year, and he is simply a reflection of that in the Football / TV world.

If Simon Cowell made Football Pundits ...

I don't mind him on 606. He is perfect for a phone in show - ie, a cocky loudmouth.

The other week he even said how he took a dive to get Edinburgh sent off and was ashamed of it looking back but in the game he'd do whatever it took to win. The discussion was about diving and Gary Neville's comments about it that weekend.

I admire his honesty, and Gary Neville's too but somehow I think the point needs To be conveyed to them that although they may have been masters at this kind of 'gamesmanship' or cheating if we're honest, it's the kind of behaviour that is running the game. The Neville comment about going down to get the penalty AND the defender sent off summed it up for me - that attitude has no place in the game for me. If I want play acting like that I'd rather watch Hulk Hogan and his spandex pants (probably showing my age there...hope he's not dead!)

The problem is that professional managers will teach their players to do this, they have to win. Neville's attitude is the product of years under Ferguson.. or maybe he always had it.

this is definitely a joke but.. you wonder...

I don't mind Savage because at least he has an opinion, not one of these irritating bland footballers who just yeahs and err umms through interviews without actually saying anything.

Bumping this very old thread cos I don’t want to go on about him in the Ange thread.

Sat a few rows behind the away dugout (as I always do) for Altrincham vs Savage’s Macclesfield team today.

They play exactly as you’d expect - high energy but a lot of fouling, which inevitably led to a sending off for smacking one of our players.

Savage was actually fascinating to watch, a lot of bravado and panto villain nonsense from him, and inevitably he got a lot of shit from the home fans.

He seems to quite enjoy this, and on the occasions someone was particularly loud with their abuse, he was turning round and doing theatrical eye rolls at the crowd.

Notably, though - in the 2nd half, a woman in the crowd (who was either with or very close to the people who’d been giving Savage the most shit) got smacked in the face by the ball at high speed from about 10-15 yards away.

Savage, having seen what happened, retrieved the ball and refused to let the ref continue with play until he’d personally been over and checked the fan was okay, leading to a large round of applause from the home fans.

Overall, a very interesting guy to watch for 90 minutes. Huge ego, lives and dies for the shithousing, and very much hypes up his own reputation even in FA Trophy games in front of 3,000 fans.

Oh, and we knocked the fucker out on penalties.

Why the fuck do we have a Robbie Savage thread in this forum?

Because this is a football forum.

Did you think you were on QVC or something? I can see why some of the old frumps on here would lead one to believe so.

11 years later, I'm surprised I've only posted 1 Robbie Savage thread. Clearly his punditry career nosedived thanks to my thread
