it seems Keano is content to sit on the bench and collect a check rather than take a paycut.

Unfortunately, I think that is spot-on. And while he does that, he slows down any potential transfer dealings.
Shame, he could have been a club legend, once upon a time.
He is a legend. He's scored over 120 goals for our club and produced some of the best moments i've seen while supporting spurs.
He should be giving the support he deserves and wished well if he moves on for games (which considering how shite Defoe, Crouch and Pav have been this season he'd have every right to do).
Also, don't think you can have a go at him for taking the money. Honestly, would you prefer to sit on Spurs bench for £65000pw and maybe get a game or play for West Ham or Birmingham for £40000pw? Be honest now...
Somehow I doubt Birmingham will!
To be fair, everyone gives Keane a hard time over his boyhood club statements when desiring to move to Liverpool and even Celtic.
But to be fair all Irish Catholics (pretty much) well love Celtic but this would not stop them having a favoured boyhood club from the more attractive English league.
Keane is 30 and as such at an age where Liverpool were still one of the very biggest clubs in the country and Liverpool is a club (along with Man U and Arsenal who are very well supported in the RoI)
So I don't doubt that both Celtic and Liverpool were boyhood teams of his and he probably did dream of playing for each as a youngster using jumpers for goalposts.
And at the end of the day no one ever gives Teddy stick for leaving us to go to Man U in not disimilar (albeit more successful) circumstances to how Robbie went to 'pool, and Teddy couldn't wait to wax on about how he used to watch West Ham as a kid when he signed for them.
Most Spurs fans loved Keane with a passion when he was first with us, I personally always thought him somewhat over rated but credit where credit is due he was a great servant to us and brought us a Carling Cup to boot
I was more than happy to sell him to Liverpool, especially at the price they paid.I'm just messing, I've always had a soft spot for Robbie, and continue to do so. Sure, it hurt when he left us for Liverpool, but I never really wished him ill.
I still wish him all the best now, hope he can find a club which will play him regularly. We've moved on and need someone else to come in but that doesn't take away from what Robbie's done for us. 100+ goals are not to be sniffed at, at the end of the day. He will go down as one of our best players from his generation.
