it seems Keano is content to sit on the bench and collect a check rather than take a paycut.

Unfortunately, I think that is spot-on. And while he does that, he slows down any potential transfer dealings.

Shame, he could have been a club legend, once upon a time.

He is a legend. He's scored over 120 goals for our club and produced some of the best moments i've seen while supporting spurs.

He should be giving the support he deserves and wished well if he moves on for games (which considering how shite Defoe, Crouch and Pav have been this season he'd have every right to do).

Also, don't think you can have a go at him for taking the money. Honestly, would you prefer to sit on Spurs bench for £65000pw and maybe get a game or play for West Ham or Birmingham for £40000pw? Be honest now...

Perhaps the extra 25k/week would make a difference to me, but then again (unfortunately) I haven't been earning 65k/week for the last 5-10 years, in which case it wouldn't make much difference at all. Lots of players have been know to take pay cuts to move and get games, or chosen lower salaries to move to clubs they prefer. Pienaar is the latest example; I doubt we are really paying him the 70k announced in the press.

Such a shame Defoe got injuired and we were forced to bring Robbie back as well that window.

I always thought we had sold Liverpool a dude and that Keane was a highly over rated player being made to look better than he was by his partnership with Berbatov.

His time at Liverpool went pretty much as I expected it to and I only wish we had left him there and them picking up the entire £20m bill for his services.

Fair play he played his part in keeping us up that year and this should not be sniffed at, but he has looked a pale shadow of himself and personally I never thought he was as good as his hype even in his prime.

Yea he is a Spurs legend (as much as Anderton is anyway) and he scored a number of goals over a good many years for us, he was the shining light in a terrible era for Spurs much like Ginola before him, but I always thought he got a better press than his talent warrented, good player yes but never a top drawer PL striker in my opinion and I feel this was exposed by his move to Liverpool.

I just hope we can get him off our books this window and bring in someone who actually adds something to our squad instead of just wasting a seat on the bench which is now all Keane is fit for at our beloved club.

To be fair, everyone gives Keane a hard time over his boyhood club statements when desiring to move to Liverpool and even Celtic.

But to be fair all Irish Catholics (pretty much) well love Celtic but this would not stop them having a favoured boyhood club from the more attractive English league.

Keane is 30 and as such at an age where Liverpool were still one of the very biggest clubs in the country and Liverpool is a club (along with Man U and Arsenal who are very well supported in the RoI)

So I don't doubt that both Celtic and Liverpool were boyhood teams of his and he probably did dream of playing for each as a youngster using jumpers for goalposts.

And at the end of the day no one ever gives Teddy stick for leaving us to go to Man U in not disimilar (albeit more successful) circumstances to how Robbie went to 'pool, and Teddy couldn't wait to wax on about how he used to watch West Ham as a kid when he signed for them.

Most Spurs fans loved Keane with a passion when he was first with us, I personally always thought him somewhat over rated but credit where credit is due he was a great servant to us and brought us a Carling Cup to boot

I'm just messing, I've always had a soft spot for Robbie, and continue to do so. Sure, it hurt when he left us for Liverpool, but I never really wished him ill.

I still wish him all the best now, hope he can find a club which will play him regularly. We've moved on and need someone else to come in but that doesn't take away from what Robbie's done for us. 100+ goals are not to be sniffed at, at the end of the day. He will go down as one of our best players from his generation.

I was more than happy to sell him to Liverpool, especially at the price they paid.

It was our inability to replace him (and more so Berbatove) that was the problem.

But yea, gooodluck to him wherever he goes, hopefully it will be sooner rather than later though because he is just a drain on our resources now and potential an obsticle in our signing a new striker (if we have to wait to off load him before buying)

Good luck to him, he was a shining light in a team of darkness for several years here and i will always be grateful for that. It was the wrong decision to bring him back but that was Redknapp's fault not Keane's.

1645: Very interesting betting news concerning the future of Robbie Keane. The Tottenham striker was 12/1 this afternoon to join Aston Villa which was slashed to 6/1, then 5/2 and now 1/2.

I don't even care if we get anything for Keane at this point, just get his huge wages off our bill will be a good thing at this point. He isn't going to play quality minutes for us anymore so for us and him he needs to go and go quickly.

Saying that I love Keane and still wear an old jersey with his name on the back but Spurs need to move on but unless there is no other club please don't go to West Ham.
