Rickie Lambert: Mauricio Pochettino taught me how to be a top striker but I never expected a move to Liverpool
Lambert owes a debt to the former Southampton boss for teaching him how to play as a lone front man and helping him earn switch to Anfield

In 2005, just after Liverpool won the Champions League in Istanbul, Rickie Lambert walked into a tattoo parlour and had the club’s Liver bird crest inked onto his shoulder. He was turning out for Rochdale in those days, having been released by his boyhood heroes as a 15-year-old and then by Blackpool.

Haha, that bit about walking over burning coals is mad. And that's just what Tottenham need.

Mental coaching is great, we do need to try and instill a winning mentality into this team. However, this is the most important bit I take away from that article:

"Whoever had the ball, I felt I had to run over and show for the ball, get on the ball. He was saying ‘take your time’ and ‘wait until the right people have got on to the ball’ like Adam Lallana and others further up the pitch. After that, I had an understanding of how to play that position a lot better."

For me, our attacking play has been the most disappointing aspect of our play in recent years. Our attacking players do not think. Movement is poor, decision making is poor. Hopefully, Poch will address this.

Wonder how Sandro will tackle such an ordeal. Will he scare the coal cold or just lie down on them for the remainder of the day?

It's amazing how much praise Poch has received from his former Southampton players. It has been pleasing to read. They all talk about how he has improved their individual games which is exactly the kind of coach we need to lead our young squad.

Agreed, normally you hear this kind of stuff when they are still manager, which is normally bollocks

Ha, that's really cool. I hope he takes our players off for a training break like that.

Quality contribution to the thread there, I'll never get the hostility that has plauged this site for years.

Par for the course on the internet in general though isn't it? Certainly think SC is better than most places. In this specific case it is a bit stupid to call in to question someones sexuality on the basis of a tattoo?

My take on Poch is that he is obviously a very good coach who seems to be held in great affection by his players. My one doubt about him is can he be nasty enough and kick some backsides when needed. Some people react to a stick whilst others to a carrot. Just wonder whether he needs a number 2 to carry out tea cup throwing duties when required - Sherwood might have been okay for that, but too late now.

i think he is quite tough and has shown little sentimentality is moving players on both in Spain and in the PL

Am a bit worried about Dawson running over hot coal though. Got severe burns written all over it with his turn of pace! :)

If you go by this article, it would suggest he can make tough decisions and isn't just all matey with the players...

- "He makes you work like a dog" - Pablo Osvaldo.

- "Sometimes... You feel like killing him, but it works" - Osvaldo again.

- Stripped his friend and business partner of the captaincy and sold him when he became manager at Espanyol.

- Also got rid of his fitness coach after a few weeks; Pochettino was godfather to his kid.
