Truth hurts. Man up grow a pair and face facts, players do not want to play for their country. Nothing new in that one.
Players do want to play for their respective countries but unfortunately none of them are English.
What is it about England? The press and public expectations are just as bad across continents but we just can't handle the pressure....it's like there is no enjoyment factor at this level for any of the players.

Just ignore.

Interesting....so one said that his partner is due in four weeks and didn't want to play? Part of me thinks I can't blame someone actually for wanting to spend some quality time with his partner before his world turns upside down....take the whole money argument away and they aren't any different to the majority of us in wanting to spend more time with our families as opposed to working...

Harry's right about England's chances of winning the 2022 World Cup though. Not having a go but there's so much nonsense in the English media. To go from not getting out of the group stages to winning the thing in the space of one tournament? Are you fucking kidding me? They all seem to be worried about the world's most boring man, Gerrard, retiring. God knows why as he contributed nothing against Uruguay and Italy. Oh wait he has experience.....of losing. Yeah he certainly passed that on to the younger players alright.

It's a disgrace. England should be getting to the semi finals with the players and resources they have. To think this time I was actually wanting England to do well and all....had a fiver on them against Italy.

I'm an Aussie not English, but I've watched England with interest. Gerrard was shocking at the world cup and so was Henderson. I can understand the desire to keep club mates together, but it clearly didn't work in the first game, they took a full squad, played the same failed central pairing in the 2nd game and it failed again. They should have just taken 14 players? Lallana, Lampard, Lambert, Barkely, Wilshere (douche) were not given any opportunity to make an impact.

I've backed Harry before and generally like him, but these comments are stupid. Even if true (and Im sure they are heavily exaggerated) he just needs to keep them in house.

don't knock Harry, he gets paid by the word and ever since he's had to pay his taxes correctly he hasn't been making as much income.

You say it's stupid and bullshit but don't give any indication why.
In the context of Harry's quotes and interviews
I usually found Harry glib, and superficial.
Anything for a laugh and to suck up to to his fellow journalists
no matter how contradictory his remarks were.
Another example of Harry being controversial and headline grabbing
for the sake of it and I simply don't believe it.

Being honest is not being controversial or contradictory, except when people cannot handle the truth. Where has he contradicted himself in this statement?

If you do not believe that players fake injury before friendlies then you my friend are deluded.

The only "hornets nest" that this story has stirred up is for Woy and Steeeevviie to be given a chance to deflect their fucking abysmal performances in the WC. Defoe has gone, Walker, and Townsend were injured so it would have made no difference to England qualifying or the selection for this WC squad.

Fact is England played twice and lost twice, and likely face another humiliation in a dew days time. It has fuck all to do with which Spurs players did not want to play when Redknapp was here.

So why was Spurs most successful manager in PL history an embarrassment to you as you said in your original post?

Was it the two fourth place finishes and a fifth? Or the QF Champions League spot that he managed us to that made you turn the house lights out and hide under your kitchen table because you were so embarrassed to be a Spurs fan.

I mean since he was fired we have really covered ourselves in glory haven't we!

What turned me off to Harry was publicly demanding a new contract the day of Levy's mothers funeral and after his flirtation with the FA for the England job cost us 3rd and CL.

Context is all GG.
I'm talking about Harry as a media whore
not as our undoubtedly successful manager.
It would be just a minor irritation
if it didn't happen so frequently.
I applaud the man's work at Spurs
but find him embarrassing.

First thing I thought other than the immediate 'shut it Harry', was that some may have known they had no chance of playing and didn't fancy spending all that time to train with and then watch England play from the side. Not saying it's right but I could see their point of view if it was that. Unless Harry is talking absolute bobbins

He said this long ago though. And the context was clearer then.

The idea was that the england team/camp was not meritocratic and cliquey and that players from clubs like Tottenham didn't enjoy it.

He said this a long time ago and no one cared, that Gerrard and Hodgson are trying to challenge him on it now is daft.

Funny thing is as soon as I saw this article I knew we would see a certain person write 'he got us 4th twice'. So fkn predictable.

It's not even a new story!!
It's in his autobiography, so already 8+ months since people were able to read this. Maybe it's just taken Gerrard that long to get that far in the book.

Our fans really need to get a grip and stop over-reacting to this.

Would it really be that much of a surprise that players wouldn't want to play in international friendlies? I believe Harry when he says this. Did he need to say it? Of course not but he does have an agenda and is probably still pretty bitter that he didn't get the job when he arguably should have - and I wish he had, at least England would play good football under him and it would have justified (on some level) our failing season that year.

Moreover, I just find it embarrassing that our fans feel the need to personally insult the man after what he did for this club. Sure, it didn't end how we wanted it to and he probably had to go when he did but that doesn't give the fans free reign to be abusive just because he is making some comments in the media.

It's always been this sort of rent-a-gob quote from Harry that's given rise to so much antipathy towards him. I can't think of many, if any, Spurs players under his reign whose England places were so secure that they could afford to take that sort of view. Surely that's the sort of attitude typical of prima donnas who think they're too good for playing for their country? Have we had any players that good? He's talking about "2 or 3 players" for every game. Is he exagerating? That many? Every game?

What about the players who played for him for whom that doesn't apply? Let's take a guess and say that it's not true of, say, Michael Dawson. Harry has cast aspersions on every England squad player Spurs had during that time. Surely that's unprofessional? Really, he ought to name names.

So fucking predictable that every day there is a pop or swipe at Harry, and yet once a month someone tries to argue for him and gets slaughtered!!! Some of the crap I have read on here regarding H is embarrassing, in fact it's like being in a fucking playground.

It's like you have been given the elbow by your girlfriends, and got a big fucking chip on your shoulders, and yet its her fault!!!!

I can't think of any other Spurs manager that has come in for so much stick for being successful, and yet hounded by our supporters its fucking embarrassing grow up!!!!!

Edit, thanks for the Doh's, just goes to prove my point!(y)

I seem to recall Harry making these comments before. It's not surprising that, like a lover spurned, he's bitter about the England situation and has decided to air them again.

It's possible that players in the past have said that they don't want to play for England. Not just at Tottenham, but at all football clubs. It really wouldn't be too unusual if well paid, often blinkered modern day footballers didn't appreciate the privilege of playing for their country.

But given that there aren't even any Tottenham players in this World Cup Squad, his point is ridiculously redundant.

"Well, let me tell you. Some players that aren't even in this World Cup squad once told me, three or four years ago, that they didn't want to play for England. They didn't need the agro. So there. What do you make of that?"
