Kaboul is a monster in the air, and somebody who should be be getting 4-5 goals a season from set pieces. Like Vidic does for United.

We simply don't take them seriously enough, and we are shooting ourselves in the foot.

If that's the case then why (even though it winds me up) don't we take them short like Barca always do due to their lack of height. Least we keep the ball.

"The 'short' answer was that a lack of height is to blame, but Redknapp conceded the deliveries were poor against Stoke."

Harry still in denial about the issue it seems. He just has to oversimplify everything. There's a lot more to this than just a lack of height; and clearly the poor deliveries are not something that suddenly popped up out of the blue against Stoke! In fact I thought I saw a marginal improvement on them as compared to recent games.

The bigger problem is movement in the box and a lack of synchronism. If we tried practising set pieces occasionally then maybe we'd actually get somewhere. Why don't we do it? Laziness? We may not have the smallest team but we are not THAT short. We have our share of big players and we have plenty of players who should be capable of delivering a dead ball into a box. I despair at how simple Harry's thinking is at times.

Whereas I don't think you are wrong with your analysis of movement and lack of practice, I do think we lack height, power and physical presence as team, especially against a team like Stoke.

Exactly, or at least be more inventive...try different stuff more often.

I doubt Harry even thinks about it.

We do a bit yeah, and I wouldn't expect us to have great success in that area against Stoke particularly so wouldn't single that out as a specific example. I certainly don't see us becoming set piece specialists, but we should have more than enough to produce a great deal more from them than we have been. It's basic stuff.

Besides, there have been plenty of games this season where we didn't line up with many small players and we still produced nothing from dead balls. In the game against United for instance (just going off the top of my head here) we had Kaboul, King, Livermore, Sandro, Bale, Walker, Saha and Adebayor in the line up. That lot should be big and strong enough to impose their presence for set pieces.

Lame excuse. United aren't blessed with height. They have Vidic, we have Kaboul. They have Rio we have Ledley. They have Welbeck, we have Adebayor.

They can also dramaticall change games, whether you're behind and looking for a foothold in the game or as Yanited did against us, have an iffy first half but go in at HT with a lead.

I can recall... Kaboul vs. City, Bale vs. Wigan, Bale vs. Bolton, Adebayor vs. Villa (not directly, but I bet they're using that as a goal from a corner). I just don't get why we're so bad, it's a not a lack of height. VDV's set pieces have been dire recently, last year, he would put in a great delivery... The ball for Kaboul's winner against the scum away last season springs to mind, one of the best deliveries I've seen in the last few years.

Pretty sure it was Defoe's goal, against Bolton at home, they're using...

That's just ridiculous. For a start, our set pieces have been shocking all season, and furthermore, not even clearing the first defender isn't anything to do with our team supposedly being short, which, by the way Harry, they really aren't...

Walker - 5'10
King - 6'2
Kaboul - 6'3
BAE - 5'9
Lennon - 5'5
Modric - 5'8
Parker - 5'9
Bale - 6'1
VDV - 5'9
Adebayor - 6'3

Jones - 6'1
Ferdinand - 6'3
Vidic - 6'2
Evra - 5'8
Valencia - 5'11
Scholes - 5'7
Carrick - 6'2
Nani - 5'10
Rooney - 5'9
Welbeck - 6'1

Poor, poor excuse from Redknapp saying that its a lack of height. Yes, we have a relatively small team, but we have at least 4 players who are threats in the air, with sometimes Sandro for Parker to make it 5.

Look at United's team, they've got 5 big players, 4 ariel threats (didn't include Carrick as he takes set pieces) yet they've scored from 16 set pieces this season. Over 3 times ours. Whats this down to then? Clearly they are well drilled and players like Rooney and Welbeck score a lot of headers due to good movement and practise.

We certainly have enough players to challenge set pieces, Kaboul Bale and Adebayor are all very good in the air. Another classic piece of Harry Redknapp bullshit.

Was Defoe's goal against Bolton from a corner, or was it touched on to him?

Can't remember.

That will definitely count as one of them, yep. I have no idea what the fifth one was, I've just watched them all and can't find it. They must have a rule where it still counts as long as the ball doesn't go out of play between the corner and the goal being scored or something.

Bale is also a threat in the box when corners are taken. I would make Modric and VDV do more corner training. In terms of direct free kicks, Bale should take them

Kaboul, Bale and Adebayor definitely ought to be getting on the end of them more often. The game at the weekend shows VdV is more than capable too. And if all not fails, why not try play them deep to someone on the edge of the penalty area ready to smash it goalwards?

No excuse. This is just the result of Harry's laissez-faire approach to training and tactics.

What do we do at training exactly?

without a shadow of a doubt you are asking the right bunch of people. every single member of the spurs community, myself included, attends spurs training on a daily basis and are so best qualified to answer this question. if only redknapp did likewise rather than spend so much of his time on the fecking internet spouting nonsense.

I imagine his question was somewhat rhetorical...
