What do you mean? What's their model?

It seems like the obvious place doesn't it? I guess it depends on whether he only wants a champions league team, and if United are able to move on the likes of Sanchez and Martial.

City do not buy readymade superstars getting close to 30. They buy the young players with max potential and finish the development themselves.

Didn't they try and sign Sanchez though? He would have been 28 at the time.
And Mahrez wasn't exactly young.

Sanchez is the anomaly. However, the reason they didn't sign him fits with their strategy. They could easily afford his wages but they realised he was not worth it. Bale could easily turn out to be another Sanchez.

Really? They've spent absolutely hundreds of millions on young players with potential? Crap. They've bought some of the best players out there There's no risk in anyone they've bought that I can think of other than that clown of a gk Pep brought in at the start of his reign.
They may not be hitting 30 but to suggest they only buy potential could be spin from a Man City fan.

Tell me about these proven superstars they have bought.

I can see what he's saying about the young players. They have bought quite a few who were about 21/22 - Sterling, Sane, Jesus. Stones, Mendy, Silva. Ederson was a year or two older, but still young for a keeper. Obviously none of them were unknown.

Obviously there are quite a few more established players as well though like Walkers, Mahrez, Gundogan, etc.

Thanks. Exacly my point. Obviously they don't fill a team with 20 year olds, that only works in FIFA. They mostly buy players up to 23/24 years old from clubs that are below top tier (Benfica, Monaco, Schalke, Shaktar) that have hit their ceiling where they are. Then they mix it up with players in their prime.

Video on Ödegaard.

I agree with most of this, but have a couple of amendments.

The two years at Castilla and Heerenveen prior to this year at Vitesse felt very stagnant, he may have been developing physically and tactically but it wasn't showing on the pitch. It certainly felt like this season was a real breakout season for him in a way that I don't think it would have if his progression had been steady, as the video says.

And though they've nailed the way he plays and his deficiencies in defending, saying that Norway have conceded goals on account of him not doing his defensive duties is very harsh indeed. Virtually every goal conceded this campaign has been a defensive error, usually from Håvard Nordtveit (I seriously can't fathom that he's meant to be the second best CB available, he is miles off good enough).

Remember his epic defending for the spammers

Agreed. They've got the policy right in recent years, targeting players up to about 24 and doing a good job of picking those who are in the ascendency and have plenty more to give but may not be seen as top tier yet. They then supplement that, and is arguably where they relax the criteria and are most frivolous in their transfer dealings, by picking up the odd PL proven player to solidify the depth of the squad (Stones, Walker, Mahrez).

That also increases the chances that the players they bring in are hungry, which is why I think they passed on Sanchez and why they will pass on Bale.
