If it's true that he's said it I imagine that he's just telling them he won't be forced into anything. I certainly wouldn't expect him to retire before his contract runs out. He could easily just stay there, not play and hit the golf course every day after training. Not a bad way to live really.

You haven't seen me play golf.

Asked if Bale might return to the Premier League at some point, a smiling Barnett said: "It certainly is possible, if somebody puts their hand in their pocket and pays us what we think he deserves.

"It is going to be a lot of money!"

Rules us out then!

I know it's just playing hardball for the sake of negotiations but if Bale and Barnett think he's going to find someone prepared to pay his current wages they're very much mistaken IMO. We certainly won't pay that for a crocked 30-year-old, Chelsea are looking like having a transfer ban plus their days of spending that kind of money are over, Arsenal are already spending all their wage budget on Ozil, Liverpool already have better players in his position and he wouldn't suit Klopp's style at all. Realistically the only clubs that can afford to take a gamble on him are the two Manchester clubs. City really don't need him because they already have about 3 people in every position he plays who aren't injured all the time. Man Utd makes the most sense, but after the debacle with Sanchez's contract I suspect they might be reluctant to give Bale a similar mega-contract.

All in all, he's in no way shape or form as attractive a proposition as he'd like to think, and unless he's prepared to take a massive pay cut I really can't see any of the PL clubs being interested. Ideally he needs to get Real to agree to pay the difference in his wages or something.

If they’re that desperate to get rid of him we could take him on a year long loan deal with no loan fee...

I'd guess Bale will end up at Real for 1 more season, bit player, then off to USA Super League of the Galaxy to play for a team supported by TV and movie stars

All true enough.

I've said it before, but it does make you wonder about wealthy individuals who are still chasing the moolah.

They've already made a fortune, so why not change focus and seek out great experiences and good times in life, instead of grasping for every last penny?

I'm not saying that Bale should join us, but at this stage in his career he should be looking at playing week in, week out, for a club where he feels at home, he can enjoy his football and where the fans love him.

He's also won many top trophies with Madrid, so all in all he's had a very successful career. Why not end it on a high, at a club that 100% appreciates him, even if that means taking a pay cut?

Oooor, he could realise that he already has more money than he, his children and his children's children could possibly need, and just enjoy playing football for a meagre wage of say 100k per week. I'm sure he could make ends meet for that plus advertising.

Just a thought.

In an ideal world, but Im not sure many players think along those lines unfortunately. I guess we'll find out.

According to BBC gossip yesterday morning...

Real Madrid are ready to freeze Bale out of the first team and make him train with the under-23s unless he finds a new club. (Sun)

He’ll be off, probably to United.

We certainly don’t need him. No issues with his quality or how he left, but unless we sell Eriksen I don’t see much reason going for him.

Personally even if Eriksen went I wouldn't want Bale back. It would never work....He's not the player he was and I don't want my memories of those times in any way tarnished.

If I remember correctly Danny Blanchflower the Captain of our greatest ever team normally went on his own to and from matches. Was he fucking off as well when he did that ?

Didn't a lot of the players live close to the ground?

Wouldn't it only be away games the players would travel together to a game? Even then i remember venebles saying he got a lift off of greaves to an away game. It was a story about breakfast they had in a service station on the way.

Woodward looks at share price when making a decision. Sacking mourinho increased the value of ut by $300m in one day. Signing bale might seem worth it to him.

Has zidane been told by the higher ups not to pick bale and drive him out. He said today that if he had a 4th sub he still would have not brought on bale. He said he doesn't fit in to his team.
