I can understand people feeling pretty miserable and frustrated today but I can't understand people who try to re-write history. There's a reason why Poch was sacked, and I don't really want to go over this all over again, but it was pretty clear something had gone terribly wrong behind the scenes. We had a fully fit side in 14th place who hadn't won an away match for a year and our football was appalling.

Like most other Spurs fans I love Poch for what he brought to us. The side he built three or four years ago was awesome, with Rose and Walker both being England regulars, with Toby and Jan being described as the best central defensive pairing in Europe, with Kane, Eriksen, Dele and Sonny absolutely flying and terrorising defences, the 'high press' tactics which delivered so many wonderful dividends, with Dembele bossing the midfield. etc..

But by the time Poch got sacked, all of that had gone, We deserved to be 14th in the table because we played without any confidence. The 'HIgh Press' tactics were nothing but a distant memory. The goals had dried up. The defence was struggling to do it's job. The midfield had lost it's authority. Walker had gone. Dembele gone. Eriksen's head was up his arse. Rose stopped giving a shit. Davies had a long term injury...

We all know because we all went through it.

So, with our love and gratitude, Poch had to go. Along comes Mourinho to a very mixed bag of emotions from the fan-base (including mine, I have to say). First game at West Ham, we win 2-3 which was a very welcome shock to the system. We'd forgotten what it felt like to win away.

Over the next month or so, although our football still wasn't great, but we were becoming harder and harder to beat and a kind of pattern began to emerge.

Then Kane snaps his hamstring and is reportedly out for the season, Sissoko buggers himself up too long term, Eriksen and Rose (allegedly) whingeing and whining behind the scenes for various reasons, then not long after, Sonny double fractures his arm and is reportedly out for the season too, Lloris out long term with a broken arm...and all in all, the entire balance of the team is adversely affected. No strikers, hardly any midfield, and with the in and out form of our available defenders, no confidence at the back., and now Bergwijn is done for the season too and he's only just got here, and Ndombele get's injured every time he plays FFS. Thank fuck Lo Celso looks like a real find and I can't wait to see him playing with a full strength side around him.

Mourinho got us to within a point of a Champions League place but now obviously, that's just a pipe dream. Like I've said, I don't know what people are realistically expecting from the team in the middle of an absolute crisis. I don't think I can remember a worse time for injuries in all my years as a Spurs fan.

Of course we're all pissed off going out of Europe, but maybe we need to think about why. Like I said last night, if we'd been able to put a full strength side out last night, no way would we have gone out, and yes, I really do believe that.

The team was approaching the end of their shelf life by the end of last season. Poch knew it. And when Levy didn't overhaul the team, Poch went into a sulking mood. He'd have quit if not for his hugh contract. So sacking him suited him just fine. He pocketed 12M. But the problem remained. When son got injured, the whole team disintegrated. Vert, Alderweireld, Davis, Dier, Rose weren't the same players they were 15 months ago. And we never replaced Walker. Even Mourinho, known for his defensive acumen, was not able to fix the leaky back line. So what next? We were now in a worse place than we were 12 months ago. We need to spend money. Now even more than last season, when we were in the CL Finals. Without injection of funds, we'll have a mediocre team playing in a state-of-the art stadium. I can hear the howls of joy from Woolwich Arsenal.

I think Poch knew the team needed a bit of an overhaul the season before, the summer we bought no one!!

I have a gnawing icy dread that St Totteringham's day may be back this season. After us getting right back on the cusp of the top 4...

RB Lepzig goalkeeper has tested positive for Corona Virus, Tottenham players have been told there is no need to self isolate as they never got anywhere near him.

Really couldn’t give a shit about that small time bollox. Neither set of fans really has anything to crow about this season.

What do you will be a mediocre team, we are already. Worse place than 12 moths ago don’t you mean 12 yrs ago look at the results over last 18mths relegation fodder. We are just lucky we are on 40 odd pts. But the coronavirus will save us lol???

I agree with everything you say. Plus for all the Levy haters out there, who else would he appoint, who was unemployed and who has (even self-professed) a record second to none; perhaps qualified by saying cup/silverware winning record, as his man-management record, certainly in recent times leaves much to be desired. I don’t really like the man nor his style but if he brings success to Spurs in the coming years I will forgive him all of that. At the moment things look ropey, even taking into account all of our injuries and I can’t see Levy spending the sort of money needed to bring about the rebuild. If that doesn’t happen Mourinho will become more morose and we all know how that ends. The early days of Poch seem so far away; we were nearly there but then the boat just sailed!

Can you imagine how much bile and outraged abuse would have been hurled at Levy if he hadn't appointed Mourinho, despite being out of work and proven to be one of the best managers on earth?

He would have come in for all sorts of abuse no matter what he did one way or another (and probably from the same people)!

Can we move this thread off the front page? It is a horrid daily reminder of a rotten evening and if it stays until our next match, it could be there for months!
