Some really good performances out there last night, with Vic making some great saves, Bissouma getting back to the levels we want and Gray settling in nicely, there's a lot to come from that kid.
Happy for BJ too, another goal and his performances are getting braver.

Really felt for Bergvall as he was obviously gutted to be sacrificed, I'm sure he was really excited at the chance to show what he could do on the European stage but I he was the obvious choice really.

But having not paid much proper attention to him before he joined us though, my vote has to go to Solanke.
He was everywhere and has so much more to his game than I thought, so to top his performance off with a goal was great.

Really pleased that we didn't do an Arsenal when we went a man down and continued to play the game our way, much to the disdain of some in the match thread!

Clean sheet and three goals against tricky opposition on a tricky night, what's not to be happy about?

Edit.
How could I forget VdV? Great game from him as well.

VdV for me, followed by Vic. Vic looked like the keeper from the first half of last season.

I really don't understand the praise for Bissouma though.

I thought he was terribly out of position far too often and defensively very undisciplined, often leaving our defenders outnumbered against their attackers. While the penalty was very soft, it was a complete moronic tackle to make in the first place.

Gray had a night to forget in my book as well, Qarabag constantly attacked with success down his side. He didn't get any help from our supposed 6 in Biss though.

The insane amount of big chances we gave away?

I thought Gray was excellent! lol
I guess that’s the beauty of opinions. I’m actually happy that some people thought he was good as I was worried he’d get a lot of criticism from the fans. I remember at least 5 times when I said wtf to myself after he made what I thought were mistakes or lack of effort to get back (the latter probably due to the knock as most of the failure to get back came in the first half). He had some nice interactions with Johnson and Kulu at times too.

Either way, there’s no doubt he will be huge for us.

My observations were similar to yours - but, I think that is just down to being 18. He is making the kind of mistakes you expect to see from an 18-yo. But, as you also note, he is making some plays you expect from a more mature player.

We are fortunate to have the extra games this season to get him more matches, and work through some of the growing pains.

Overall - good game, not great, and some things to work on.

I actually though Udogie was great when he came on. Bailed us out on a couple of occasions, and Deki injected something in the second half too. Vic was excellent, everyone else was fine apart from Son for whom nothing came off. Needs a rest.

I’m really surprised Gray has any votes. I really like him and think he’ll be excellent for us (more so in midfield) but I thought he was really poor tonight. It might be the knock he picked up first half but I thought he looked really off the pace in defence, was beaten/crossed against several times and made several mistakes. He did a couple of nice things too but overall I thought it was by far his least impressive performance for us (including pre season).

Might have to watch it again to see what I missed.

Sarr did much better than he has been. Solanke is impressing me more and more with his attributes, vdv was excellent, Vicario was also excellent and that save was universal class.
Must have been two Archie Grays on the pitch. I was obviously watching a different one to you.

showed why Vic must play in europe over forster, if forster played that game it could of quite easily been a different result

And the 8 others who agreed with my post 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don’t think even a montage would help because it wouldn’t show him not running back to help the defence quicker. It would show him making a few mistakes though. But like I say, I’m putting it down to the knock he took in the first half. It looked painful and to his credit, he kept running around all match but for me, it definitely took its toll. I’m just surprised that some people thought he had a great game.

Your point is well made. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply.
