Talk about a game of two halves!

First half very encouraging and one of the best performances under Jose

Second half drab. Seem to have no ideas until Ndombele and Lamela came on

Lloris 6- nothing to do

Davies 4-
Dier 7-
Sanchez 7-
Dorthey 8-

PEH 8
Winks 5
Lo celso 6
Ndombele 8

Son 8
Kane 7
Lucas 6
Bergwijn 5
Lamela 6

Should've been up 4 mill at half time, some poor finishing but also just bad luck with hitting the bar a bunch

Referee -0 a disgrace, lucky Poch isn't in charge still. He would've chased him

Poor finishing? Their keeper made 2 worldclass saves from the Lo Celso freekick and Kanes follow up, another brilliant save from a curling shot from Kane and fuck knows how he kept lamela's freekick out?

Didn't realise we had that many shots

I honestly don't see anything wrong with that performance, energy was good, pressing was good, we made chances and controlled the game.

VAR will overshadow what was a very good performance, albeit against a side who had no intentions of leaving their own half. Hojbjerg my MOTM his passing was incisive and and broke up the play excellently.

Performance in first half was good.

I think we are toothless in attack, we created but we need to be ruthless. I thought we were complacent in second half in particular.

I do think GLC needs to have more output. Perhaps I'm being harsh but he is always on the periphery of the game.

Doherty, I'm not keen on but maybe because he is part of a four at the back.

Bergwijn was really meh, and needa to improve massively.

I’ll take the positives on a game that we dreadfully unlucky not to win

PEH starting to show well. Him with GLC and Ndombele is going to be great.

Son and Kane really add something - can’t wait for Bale, as Moura and Stevie blow too hot and cold. I wonder if Lamela isn’t actually first choice outside of Bale?

Son who was badly missed and we lost our dominance

But really VAR was MOTM. It used to be that officials had done a good job when you didn’t notice them. Now it’s all about officials.

I think he is great full stop but GLC didnt seem quite on it today.
Ndombele can make things happen hope he continues to improve.
TBF the penalty shouldnt have mattered we should have been 3/4 up

LoCelso the standout performer for me. Hes an outstanding player. Good all round team effort.

Great to see Tanguy get on and put some lovely play about.

A shame as the 3 points were well.deserved. look forward to JM post match interview, didnt get chance to see it

I felt Winks was the only disappointment today.
We’re heading in the right direction for sure.
Add Bale in the mix, not least for his ability to shoot from distance against packed defences like today, and I’m very positive.

He was excellent in first half. Didn’t do a lot in the second but also didn’t do a lot wrong other than the slip. Manned up and won a header against Carroll too.

Some good signs today but obviously all completely ruined. Can excuse the forwards for not getting more goals today, happens sometimes but we created a lot of chances and just had the game stolen from us.

23 shots, 12 on target for us. Zero shots on target for Newcastle [aside from the penalty].

Darlow with a clear goalkeeping masterclass, but our finishing should've been much sharper [especially H].

Other than that, great team performance all around. Not a poor performer on the pitch — in defense, midfield, and attack. Result was completely ruined by VAR.

MOTM for me was Sonny, who should've scored two fantastic goals in the first half but was stopped by the woodwork. 2 handballs in two matches indicates it is clear that we must score 2 goals a game.

That was an exceedingly bad newcastle side, that made us look good.
Ultimately it was only lucas who scored, so he gets the award for me.

For all the moaning about VAR, it was the ref peter bankes who looked at the monitor and made the call.
Fans have to remember their enemies, and give them hell the next time, next season.
He can join the list along with Michael Oliver (var ref, sheffield vs spurs) and mike dean who knows what he is.

Lloris had nothing today as our tactics worked.

Doherty played well, his best game so far I reckon. Really love his link ups and interchange going forward, but of Corluka about him but not slow.

Sanchez did well, sweeping up nicely with his pace a couple of times.

Dier was good, cut our crosses, good concentration, but sadly was punished in bizarre fashion by an inexperienced ref, a shoddy rule book and a charlatan’s interpretation of said rules.

Davies played well, tough tackling high up the pitch, made the pitch nice and wide, good link up play.

Højbjerg has his best showing for us, hunting down the ball well, using it progressively, and leading by example. Somehow gave away a free kick by being clothesline’d by their player.

Winks played well, good passing range, tenacious of the ball, and started attacks nicely. Best game in a long time.

Lucas scored a nice goal with a clever, determined bit of play and second half ran at Newcastle well but I did get frustrated by his inability to find a teammate first half.

Lo Celso was ok, looked less at ease playing that advanced with a bit less space to operate in in my opinion.

Son was kept at bay only by the woodwork as we witnessed another dangerous game in attack from him. We suffered for good absence second half, hopefully he’s not out too long.

Kane made our goal beautifully and first half was unlucky to not score at least one, he’s looking the most mobile and attacking we’ve seen him in ages. Second half his finishing seemed frustrated with a few snatches.

Bergwijn wasn’t great, struggled to get involved barring a couple of nice moments and didn’t seem quite on the same wavelength as his teammates.

Ndombele showed some lovely touches and really spread our play nicely. The progress continues.

Lamela didn’t have huge effect but added energy where his colleagues had begun to wane.

Mourinho has us playing slick, attacking football which created a shed load of clear chances which alarmingly were contrived not to score/their goalie kept out. Sadly all we should be talking about is the good football we played today, instead we’re kicking our wounds after being screwed by a series of useless decisions from a ref who’d be out of his depth officiating primary school football.
