I can't believe anyone rating Gazzaniga "poor" watched the same game. They could and should have scored at least another 3 or 4 that he did incredibly well to get to, as well as rushing out to beat Rashford a few times.

It would have been an embarrassment without him. One of the very few to have any credibility.

Beaten at his near post for the first goal, that was piss poor. Save that and the game is completely different.

Gazzaniga 7 - I actually don’t blame him for the first goal it bounces in such a weird place and it was moving all over the place he also made 3/4 great saves

To be beaten at the near post from that distance is quite shocking.

I for one cannot wait for Lloris to return.

Gazzaniga 7 - I actually don’t blame him for the first goal it bounces in such a weird place and it was moving all over the place he also made 3/4 great saves

Aurier 6 - was okay actually just his french friend let him down. He also did let rashford passed him to easy it was actually the time he needed to foul him.

Sanchez 6 - poor for the first goal and not good enough on the ball bur didn’t really do anything wrong.

Alderweireld 6 - nothing wrong really

Vertonghen 5 - starting to think he’s another one that doesn’t want to be here looked like sulky jan because he was playing left back for me that’s not a team player he was also very poor on the ball.

Winks 3 - could actually be the worst performance I have seen from a spurs centre midfielder in the last 15 years I’d rather play skipp he’s fucking dreadful really is awful he does nothing offers nothing and has no positional discipline.

Sissoko 4 - awful, but I think anyone would be next to winks and vice versa

Moura 4 - the Brazilian Theo Walcott has games where he looks like a prime ronaldo then when you give him a start and trust him he turns into Walcott but without the effort.

Alli 8 - only real player of class on the pitch that goal is one of the best I have ever seen the way that ball was spinning to do that incredible.

Son 3 - done nothing except run down blind alleys could have passed to Kane about 6x to give him a scoring opportunity but refused too wants the glory himself at all times not good enough tonight.

Kane 4 - looked like tired Harry didn’t offer anything but we didn’t get him in the game at all he must have only had 10 touches all game?

Ndombele 6 - changed the game when he came on we had some control finally and looked like we could create

Eriksen 6 - yes wasn’t great but he did create two chances within the time he was on the pitch so?

Lo celso 0 - his loan won’t be made permanent.

Jose 3 - didn’t even try to correct or stop rashford for they alone poor
Moura a Brazilian Theo Walcott...made me wince reading that as was true based on tonight.

Terrible. Sanchez and Dele are the only ones with any credit. Sorry SC but a CB’s main job is to defend. Sanchez was fine today. Toby decidedly was not. His long balls are a bonus and he was inaccurate with those today. Also, he hasnt defended well at all this season, if we’re being honest with ourselves. Pray we dont sign him to a new deal. Based on the last 4 months, he might be better off in MLS. Same with Jan, sadly.

Winks is completely out of his depth at this club, sadly. And honestly, based off this season, he might be out of his depth in the PL. Absolutely atrociuos all season and very costly. Sissoko is bang average. Squad player and that is it. And honestly, not for us.

Lucas, Son, Kane all awful. Useless.

Now for how we played? Honestly not too different from the first 3 games. Horrible defensively and very little midfield control forcing us to bypass it. Just that Son and Lucas have been on it. They werent today. Jose has got to make tough choices and drop a few guys from the 18 for a while.

None of the Spurs players played well... None of them!
Reason: none of them wanted OGS sacked
Reason: none of them wants Poch to replace OGS at Man Utd
Duhhhhh...

So, so disappointed with the players

There was little different to the games we won, but because most fans base everything on goals and results we go from being potential CL winners to the apocalypse in the space of 90 mins. Much of what was on display tonight was on display then also.

Trying to move the ball as quickly as possible - check.
A fair few errors because of that - check.
Quite a bit of pragmatism, verging on aimless long ball etc stuff - check.
When the play slows down, opposition is set, lacking ideas to get through it - check.
Defensively very open and too much time allowed on the ball for the opposition - check.
Individual errors at times - check.

Difference was tonight that Utd, although not exactly the most compact and defensively disciplined and well drilled team in the world, didn't get caught wide open throughout and offer up prime space in front of their back four or to be in a position to get ruined on the counter attack, a la West Ham, Olympiakos, Bournemouth. They also had the most attacking threat faced so far, tonnes of pace and in Rashford pace + ability + confidence to really cause threat.

There was a fuckload of work to do despite those wins, so I don't take tonight as a set back, just a useful highlight.

As for the game. Ropey start, before HT I thought we'd got back into it and looked the better team as it ended, the second half we never got going at all (the early penalty didn't help) and had a belated late hint of pressure in the search for an equaliser.

Individually wasn't a great deal of plaudits to be had. Alli's goal the definite bright spot. Very disappointed in Kane, and Son, Aurier and Sissoko weren't far behind him.
Tbf most good and bad performances are similar on that count. We have a style, sometimes its applied well, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes individual performance are good, sometimes they aren't. Ultimately, most fans base everything on goals and results because that's the idea of the game. In the long run, nothing else matters in football.

Last night saw all the negatives of the set up - exposed right back, spread midfield, losing the ball easily. Other games have seen the flip side - flying full back, direct goals, little pressure on the backline passing out.

Ratings wise: 5 to Alli for the goal, 4 to most, 3 for the centre mids and Aurier.

We didn’t get kane in the game but regardless his touch was woeful , he looks clunky and laboured , isn’t shooting he’s dropping so deep. We need him scoring goals

To be honest I’m lost for words. I cannot believe that Mourinho went to ManU and picked Sissoko in a CM2. He can’t possibly have missed the fact that he can’t tackle, can’t take the ball under pressure and can’t pass. To make matters worse he leaves us with a CM2 of Sissoko and Winks for over an hour despite the fact that they were outplayed by Fred and McTom. NDombele did more and gained more control of the game in the brief time he was on the pitch than the two of them did for over an hour. We have to build our midfield around NDombele preferably with Lo Celso In a 3.
Worst tactical and in game management from Mourinho I’ve ever seen

Downloaded game to watch on plane on the way home, excited to have some entertainment for a couple of hours. Oooof was I disappointed.

Just a poor performance all round, could barely string a series of passes together the entire game.

Really frustrating as feels like a step backwards in some ways but I'm pleased we have another game so soon.

Time for Jose to start making us tick.

Gazzaniga - 5 - terrible for their first.
Aurier - 3 - was nowhere defensively time after time.
Sanchez - 3 - horrible on the ball. just fucking clear the ball.
Toby - 6 - ok
Vertonghen - 5 - Too slow for left back
Sissoko - 3 - he had to cover for Aurier all the time which left Winks alone in CM but he didn't do very well covering for Aurier. Cannot keep playing this lopsided right back formation against better teams away.
Winks - 3 - I don't know what's happened to him, was never this bad in previous seasons.
Lucas - 2 - absolutely terrible from the first touch of the game. Bad control, bad passing, offered no help for Aurier defensively, played it sideways and backwards
Son - 3 - One of those days for him and lately he seems completely unwilling to pass to Kane. Worrying.
Kane - 3 - Looks like he cannot be bothered.
Dele - 6 - Amazing goal and actually the only one offensively that tried and gave a shit.
Eriksen - 5 - nothing special.

OK Jose
You proved your point
Not quite sure what it was though.
Alli, Gazza 6
Eriksen 5
Mostly 4 for the others
except Winks, Sissoko and Aurier 3 (and Jose)

Verts and Toby are done after this season,
Sanchez is dodgy,
Sissoko is all heart and no brain.
Eriksen is all brain and no heart

Poor team selection and game management.

Come back Poch all is forgiven.
Skipp should start next game.

If anyone on here really believes that JM came here to work with this spent squad like he said in the press conference on day 1, then your deluded.
JM has no choice but to big them up and get as much out of them as he can before he brings in the personnel that will be able to play the way he wants.
Ofc he will keep and improve some of the players that are here, but this time next year i think our team will be unrecognizable .

Jose is a top coach but not a magician, and alot of the players who played lastnight are not good enough or done.

Difficult game for ratings. Mourinho basically gave some players no chance to play well (Winks, Sissoko i.e.) through his gameplan, and ingame management.

Gazzaniga: 3 - Gave away a goal, which there is no excuse for not saving.
Aurier: 1 - Didn't give a shit at the first goal and didn't even try to follow him (or even find out where he was), and thus let Sanchez look like shit, when he actually didn't do to badly. Horrible crossing.
Sanchez: 4 - Not to bad, considering he had Aurier to his side, and no midfield in front of him. Difficult to shine when even Your manager wants you to fail.
Alderweireld: 5 - Did okay.
Verthongen: 5 - Did okay. Seems worse than he was, as he, offensively, was given a job he has no qualifications for.

Sissoko: 1 - Given a role he hardly can succeed in, but he is still allowed to pass to a team mate and not give away needles penalties.
Winks: 3 - With Sissoko given the role of covering for Aurier, Winks were left alone in midfield. Nobody can do good in that role at this Level. Still, not at particularly good game, but, not good either (although I'm not sure how he could have played well yesterday).

Moura: 1 - Shit. Looked extra bad due to the Complete surrender of the midfield, but still.
Alli: 3 - Gets little for the goal, other than that, quite shit. Tried, but didn't have any noteworthy actions besides the goal. As With Moura, not helped by the tactics.
Son: 1 - Shit. Looked extra bad due to the Complete surrender of the midfield, but still.

Kane: 3 - Tried, and played some good passes. He opens up more room for Alli by going deep, but will probably score less.

Mourinho: 0 - Sackable performance. Got tactics all wrong, and didn't change it until it was way to late. In playing a more traditional back four, but still pushing Aurier high, he forced Sissoko into covering the right hand side, and thus leaving Winks alone in central midfield. By doing so we allowed United to basically do what they want, and create chances at will. Changes should have been made way earlier, and the first change (Eriksen) did little to actually stop the bleeding.

I'll cut him some slack regarding the missing attacking gameplan. But it really hurts to see us defend that deep and then have no other options than long balls.

Why is Ndombele left out of big league games? Liverpool, Man U. Seriously, he may run out of puff but at least he's capable of turning a game and sticking a goal in. Winks and Sissoko hardly ever do that.

It's the way it is with keepers, one mistake even if it is outweighed by good saves will make a difference. The two saves I recall (tipped on to the bar and one from close range from Rashford as well I think) were very good. Conversely if a striker misses a sitter but scores two he will get good ratings.
