He didn't need a plan B. Plan A was working apart from the defence being all over the place. He dropped plan A the moment he played man u and then Chelsea. He is so scared of losing to former teams.

JMs plan A was working when he first to over. We were playing good football and winning, it was just the defence that needed to be fixed. But Man U and Chelsea came along and he decided to play negative football ever since. But he does this against former teams for some bizarre reason.

there’s no particular need for the fear of losing to those two to influence how he sets up v Norwich at home, say, is there?

the opposition simply has to avoid getting done on the break, they have nothing else to think about v us, so predictable

That's the problem. The fear we play with. We are not set up to control the ball, we are set upto to nick a goal not control a game and win

I am sure its the same midfield that got us through to the CL final beating teams like Man City and Ajax on the way. Your attempt to defend Jose's negativity is pathetic. Poch, before his demise, showed how well playing and pressing up field made for very good football (which was also a form of defence), and Jose used the same midfield personnel today. Poch didn't have the luxury of having Ndombele or Le Celso in that run, but he did well. My point is making excuses for Jose's negative tactics is baseless

Except it is completely different.
On that run, and in those specific games you mention our midfield 2 was Eriksen and Wanyama, neither of who are here any longer, and in 1 of those games Sissoko in a 3 with Eriksen and Wanyama. (Winks was out injured for City away and both Ajax games thankfully or doubt we would have got there)
Your point still stands though about making excuses for negative tactics.

Is it just me that was deeply disappointed with son? I thought first half in particular he was the weak link.

I'm afraid I don't agree, it was the position he was playing which left him out wide supporting Davies that meant he couldn't attack as I'm sure he would have wished. Essentially doing a job for the team. He also got into some great positions especially in the 2nd half, but poor balls, mainly from Lamela, let him down.

Interestingly Ancellotti setup his Everton team at home to Liverpool with the same tactical plan as JM did with us versus MU. It seems two managers who have both won the Champions League and various League titles with different teams in different countries know how weigh up the pros and cons of both their team and the opposition and come to a conclusion of how to set their team up that differs from many on here! I know who I’d have more confidence in
