Lucas, I have to say, while always a dangerous player, really can't pass. And Son made some shockers too. They heaped on the pressure, but we helped them at times too.

Sanchez and Tanganga, because they're young, play at least one horror pass a match and they did today but weren't punished. I like them both a lot, I'm not getting at them. Loris also has a brainfart most matches.

I'm not trying to be negative, just saying there's a lot of room for improvement.

We defended well today but they were wasteful and we need to tighten up.
But you are! Reading this one would think they did nothing of worth!

Really?! How many other right backs have made Sterling look average this season?

I thought aurier played very well, but he gave away a penalty. How could I give him a better score?

Also I look at that back 4 and I cannot see Toby or tanganga (from what I've seen) giving away goals.

With davinson and aurier I see mistakes. Davinson is young and will (hopefully) iron out his mistakes. It's the same reason foyth and kwp are on loan.

Aurier doesn't have the excuse of being young and it's not the first time he has been the cause for us leaking goals. I prefer my defenders to be good defenders first and foremost and aurier has been at fault many times this season.

Good to see people recognizing Harry Winks value to the team. He was fantastic today. Along with Lo Celso they Kept De Bruyne quiet.
Up until he scored I thought Son was terrible. He was better after that.

Lloris gives so much more assurance to our defence. The whole defence did well under pressure but the defensive work was in truth a team effort. As yet we stutter going forward without the ability to move the ball fluently in groups. The formation does not bring out the best in our forwards but JM wants the team to defend first.

Rode our luck yet for all their shots the best chances came from us giving them the ball or heading onto the crossbar. Will take a battling win as a confidence builder. Can’t fault any of our players on effort

I think the issue has been that winks hasnt been at his best for a while. Over the last few weeks his levels have improved. He seems to have a bit more about him. Perhaps that has something to do with being partnered with Lo Celso? I hope Jose can find a way to fit Tanguy with these two. Issue being that Jose likes his two man midfield system. So, he'd have to find a way to add Tanguy in to that structure or make some tweaks. Regardless, i think winks, lo celso and ndomble should all be on the field at the same time. Would be a very dynamic midfield.

Good to see Winks playing progressively.
Always knew he had the ability and so pleased to see him coming out of his shell.
Great performance as a team, with stand outs being Hugo, Gio and Winks.
Tanganga continues to impress and a lovely little cameo from Ndombele.
Lamela proving again that he's better as a sub than a starter.

The one thing I saw in this game was the commitment, desire to at least play and try, looking courageous and actually wanting to fight for it.
Lloris was fantastic.
Toby was very very good
Sanchez got more confident.
TanGanga is a great great prospect, so impressed with him.
Aurier had a good game.
GLC is a great player.
I thought winksy was ourstanding
Dele can be better. Twas a bad foul by stealing in him.
Son tried and scored
Lucas tried... Both Son and Lucas could have done better with the ball.
Stevie wlis a wonder... Great goal.

Mourinho was tactically wise.

Good subs too.

It's looking much better.

I think the issue with Winks (and most of the others) is that they've been repeatedly played in a midfield with 1 too few players in it. CM2 doesn't suit the players we have and have been saying it for weeks. Drop an extra man in there and we immediately look like we can compete with a top team like City, and more than likely get control against lesser team where we've been struggling. I don't think it's particularly ideal dropping Dele back in there, especially on current form) but at least it plugs a few of the gaps we've seen lately and Bergwijn helped out in there as well. Hell, I'd even say Dier would look 10x the player if he wasn'tbeing expected to cover acres of space with such limited mobility.

I have been critical of Winks in the past but yesterday he was an utter joy to watch, some of his forward play was phenomenal. Fantastic performances all round imo.

Nearly being the operative word. Nothing happened as a result of the events you mention. However his penalty save did have an impact .

So they weren't mistakes because the other team didnt capitalise? Yet people were tearing Dele apart every time he lost the ball. but seeing as city didn't score from them i guess they weren't mistakes either and should be counted as good passes then?

Tanganga MOM for me. I didn't see Mahrez get out from under him once. Showed him left every time and kept him pinned to the wing. Amazing composure for a youngster.

Great point. Everytime Mahrez had the ball Tanganga showed him down the line where he didn't want to go at all. It really helped nullify his impact, how many times have we seen our fullbacks allow players to come inside so it was quite refreshing. He positions his body very well.

The one time Mahrez outsmarted him Japhet took him out which was the right thing to do!

I am not sure you can give anyone the MOTM award for the match yesterday.
It was a real group effort, a grind for much of the match.

For everything MoTM worthy, the same player made mistakes that on another could have been punished.... Lloris, Sanchez and Aurier all made mistakes that were nearly costly, but also were brilliant at other moments.

Lo Celso was very good, but caught occasionally not tracking the run for the 1-2 passes City liked to play between our lines.

Moura and Son and Bergwijn all want to run with the ball and right now and lack a bit of guile that Dele is supposed to bring but he looked busy the first ten minutes then dropped off (though he still ran 9km and that challenge on him was nasty!).

Winks was industrious and probably had one of his best games, certainly for a while, though other than getting the City player sent off he didn't do anything of real note in either direction.

The point being no one player was flawless, yet no one player left anything in the changing rooms either. I felt everyone was commited, everyone tried to execute the game plan, often cautious (meaning Moura was left to it up front on occassion), looking for balls into dangerous areas/space and looking to hurt City in particular areas without leaving us exposed to the obvious qualities.

So MoTm for me was the whole team. Collectively produced a fine display and helped each other out when mistakes were made (Lloris saved Aurier, Aurier daved Sanchez, Toby save Lloris etc...)

Agreed, but wouldn't drop Dele into there. Would put NDombele alongside GLC & Winks and play Dele in the #10 role that he suits best

Makes you question future for Vertonghen more and more. Sanchez had some really good spells yesterday too.
