Normal service resumes. The better organized and disciplined team won if truth be told.

Is Hojbjerg an upgrade? Dont give me that first game malarkey. I have been watching him at Southampton and had my reservations when he came to us.

While I am not surprised with the result, I am still so disappointed with our overall performance. Sadly nothing has changed going by this performance.

I genuinely can't name one player who played well. In fact, I don't even know if there was one who played decent. And when that happens I have to look at the manager instead, because it means the team is in disarray. Just a shocking performance from start to finish.

I'd say a special mention (in a negative way) to Winks, who was miserable. I want him to be good but he is just not progressing whatsoever. A midfielder who is scared to pass the ball forwards just has no place at this level and is hurting our team so much. He is genuinely offering nothing, he can't tackle, he can't carry the ball, he can't pass progressively, he doesn't win aerial duels, he doesn't show for the ball enough. He should not be starting for us unless he drastically improves.

Woeful. Everyone a 5 apart from Mourinho who gets a 3, and Moura who gets a 6 (for effort).

The players did not look fit enough, and having international breaks in pre-season was ridiculous.

Where is the option of none deserved?

Second half display was one of the biggest slap to all of the fans enthusiam for the new campaign. I didnt know you can become a decent premier league player by jogging and cant even make a decent pass.

Shame on you.

I posted my thoughts in the match thread but I think people need to not overreact based on one game. Let the new players settle in and players back from Internationals get back into it.

The fact I can't even think of a hard save Lloris had to make shows the defense was good outside the set-piece. Dier could have jumped on the set-piece but give credit to Everton for the perfect cross and power header.

Midfield was lost. Hojbjerg actually broke up a good number of passes around the box that helped the defense but going forward we lacked creativity. Dele had his chance with GLC out and he didn't take it. Could have used Lamela since Jose won't play Ndombele more than 15 minutes.

Sissoko my MOTM. Actually made some nice moves in midfield, made some good runs and kept the ball moving. He's better than Winks in the fact Sissoko actually passes forward. Lucas and Son really let us down today IMO. Son should have played Kane in for the easy goal and Lucas put effort in but had horrible decisions with his passing.

Why are we even bothering with this thread today? Every single one of them were beyond useless.

Then why bother posting in it? ?

This thread is what it is, somewhere for people to go over the top positive at every win and over the top negative at every defeat. It’s a venting mechanism.

Overall I think we did not deserve to win but a defeat is also abit harsh. I'm not particularly disappointed with a loss; these things can happen early on, but the lack of goal threat in the second half is concerning. We couldn't play through Everton at all second half; and if Dacoure + Allan is all Everton needs to grind a result out of us, we are going to suffer this season. Also Everton looked more likely to score especially after the goal.

Observations on individuals:

Doherty: I think he is a clear upgrade on Aurier. Crosses clear the first man. Gets into the box. Also gets played in from behind but that's expected with an attacking wing-back. Overall I'm happy with him.

Hojbjerg: did what you would expect of a DM. Not a stand-out player, but that's probably not his role.

Nombele: I was happy that his first touch when he came on was a good pass down the right; guy clearly has vision. But he followed this up with two quick turnovers in the center of the park; one led to a Calvert-Lewin shot on goal, another was an intercept from Siggy. Rest of the time he didn't do anything note-worthy. On this showing, he is not the answer to our midfield creativity-crisis.

Toby + Dier: when we started pushing more forward and became more open to counter attacks, we are counting on them to stop the Everton forwards. I think we were lucky that we didn't concede more goals, as neither of them had enough 1v1 against Richarlinson.

I'm very curious why Mourinho hooked Dele for Sissoko. We created alot less after Dele went off.

Not one comes out of that game with credit.

I'm pinning a lot on our fitness being the reason. (I have to cling to something)

JM - 4 - not rating players until we can see match strategy

For me when the middle third is not contributing then that is tactics. Even a rubbish player contributes when there is clear direction in his role.

With no attacking transition that means the middle third is unsure if their role beyond shielding defence and pressing.

Shows how important GLC is already. Nobody else seems to want to defy orders and carry the ball up the pitch

I think lucas was the only one putting any pressure on. That's about as good as it got. Worrying signs with Kane. No intensity apart from the one run and throwing his arms around. His positioning was off too. Noticed him standing in some very obscure places.

We have been poor for a while, but this has to take the cake for one of the worst performances I've seen. Zero creativity, no cohesion, lack of effort and on and on. The blame squarely rests on the manager before the players.

All 3 of Everton's players were only signed in the past week or so, but they out did our midfield in every way. There are no excuses for us.

Lloris - 6? Not sure if he did anything special, had absolutely no chance on the goal.

Davies - 2. A truly mind boggling pass that richarlison should have taken advantage of, and slow feet. He is so average it hurts.
Dier - 3. What was he doing on the free kick?
Toby - 3. He played about 6 balls to absolutely nowhere today. A symptom of our woes.
Doherty - 4. Really worrying defensively because he’s so slow, gives the winger so much space. He does have a lot to offer going forward though.

Winks - 1.5. What a shocker, though I do concede that without him we completely lost the midfield.
Hojbjerg - 2. Slow in every fashion, physically, mentally, and technically.
Dele - 3. Played far too high and should have probably scored with his chance. Tactically misused.
Sissoko - 2. Awful.
TN - he tried, but misplaced no less than 4 passes in a shocking fashion.

son- 3. Awful free kicks, awful touches.
Moura - 2. He does nothing well.
Kane -3. Did he touch the ball in any build up?
