Alderweireld motm.
He was able to quickly pass to the attacking players before everton got the 2 banks of 4 in place.
Only did it twice, but that is twice more than anyone else.

Tactics for the rest of the season:
- 433
- Win the ball and give it to Lo Celso. Let him play a free role in the midfield three and distribute to the three forwards after he gets it. He can then move around in the space behind Kane. Appears to be the only way we can look decent and win...

An organized team and defensively compact but not enough movements and creativity when attacking.
Some players played with fear and lack of confidence.
We just pass and had possession but no penetration and prowess in final third.
Gio now looks determined and aggressive and clearly did his best and is better suited when playing forward.

Lloris, Dier, Gio, sissoko and Kane was good.
Lucas was poor.
3points

Not a great match. Some thoughts:
To slow in the buildup. 10+ passes before we pass the halfway line. I’m so tired of watching players pass back all the time.
We give too many soft free kicks in dangerous position around the box.
JM said he dropped Berwijn to bring in Winks so he could free up Sissoko. Winks did his job, sat in front of the back four and broke up play but Sissoko rarely got forward and was largely anonymous. It felt like we were playing with 10 men.
Thought Kane was poor , did not make the effort to get in dangerous positions. In the 53rd minute Son chased a ball down the channel, beat his man and got a shot away that Pickford parried out into the front of goal but Kane was nowhere to be seen even though he was level with Son on the halfway line when Son broke into his run. Very poor effort on Kane’s part and a lot worse than Son’s lack of tracking back that so riled Loris at HT. In fairness to Kane he put a shift in defensively when needed.
Having said all that we were resolute defensively and showed more spirit than at SU. I hope JM can instill more of the attitude of players calling out other players for not doing their job. As a team we have been too easy going for too long serverely lacking in leaders.
I gave MOM to Winks because he did the job JM brought him into the team to do and I cannot believe so many people have given him stick today. For as long as I’ve followed Spurs(a long time) it’s been the same if people need a scapegoat invariably they pick a homegrown player. Sad.

Forgot to add to previous post:
Lucas is a frustrating player and I wouldn’t pick him ahead of Berwijn but he’s s the only player who wil run at defenders which they hate. Everyone else at the first sign of a defender turns around and passes backwards. How I’d love us to have an old fashion winger who would constantly take on the defender and try to get to the byeline to get a cross in.
Also, may have been a bad game but 3 points which at the end of the day is all that counts. I’d like us to play nice football but you don’t get points for that and for too long we have not had the drive and determination to prioritize the points over the performance.

For me, our biggest issue is being so so poor at decision making in the oppositions half and dwelling on the ball for 2/3 too many touches. Aurier, Moura, Sissoko Son (less last night) Lamela whenever he is on the pitch.

I lost count of how many opportunities for good attacking play was missed not because of shape, or player availability but by hesitation and poor decision making by the same players over and over again.

It's important to be able to distinguish between a poor game from an entertainment stand point (which last night certainly was) and a functional, hard working, defensive performance.

Let's be clear, that was not fun to watch, however, if you can't see the improvement in the areas that matter then you're not looking hard enough.

From a defensive standpoint there was far better organisation, discipline and work ethic. As a team we held our shape much better and ultimately that led to us almost completely shutting Everton down. They did next to nothing in this game having come off of the back of beating 3rd placed Leicester 2-1. Yes, it was hard work to watch and as much as I wouldn't stand for this every week, we needed this kind of performance and effort after being embarrassed by Sheff Utd. Let us not forget that defending on their 2nd and 3rd goals!

Winks & Sissoko need to be getting a lot more praise and lot less 4's and 5's. Winks was everywhere. Filling the spaces, covering back and doing the simple things to allow us to keep our shape. Sissoko likewise. It's not flashy or pretty but it's functional and right now it's what we needed.

As I say, in the long run this won't wash. There needs to be improvement. However, if we have to suffer through some more of this to keep some clean sheets and getter generally better on the defensive side of our game then I will tolerate it. Son, could and probably should've scored a 2nd goal in the 2nd half but he's been a bit rusty since coming back.

We need to just get as many points as we can from the last 5 games, see where we end up and then come at this again next season, hopefully with the gaping holes plugged and a better understanding of what Mourinho wants.

I voted Kane as he seems be the only person who can make a telling pass. Very boring with no creativity but 3 points and a clean sheet. Just hoping better on Thursday and play into some form for Sunday

With four games in since the break, we have two clean sheets, we look better in defense, Dier looks a different player and I sense a shift in style. It’s not pretty, it’s tough to watch at times, but I’m hopeful that off the back of a tighter defense, we can unleash some better attacking football as confidence grows. But I’m an eternal Spurs optimist.

Agreed, people expecting us to smash 4 past someone are deluded. Takes time to build the confidence back up and last night was a good starting point.

Yes there's an improvement defensively but come on, Everton were passive as well.

I was very surprised with their lack of ambition and urgency levels.

In short, we defended well the few times it was required but we weren't really tested much.

And because of that its disappointing that we produced so little in the attacking sense.

I'm just praying we do improve in the attacking sense, although I accept it will still be pragmatic overall, as it stands next season will be very uncomfortable viewing if this is the height of it.

Remember dull football absolutely relies on getting the result. The minute the results stop coming...

Just have to hope we do improve on the attacking side and with solid defensive foundations we might be on the up for next season.

Dont get so many votes for Lo Celso but thats just opinon. Dier was MOM. We have a better shape when Winks plays IMO. I wouldnt start Lucas and Son must still be in a bunker in Korea

Good one, pal. Look, you’re a happy clapper and that’s fine - but I’d rather watch my nan as the centre piece of a bukkake than more of this shit.
Its not about being a 'happy clapper', I've followed Spurs through thick and thin for 30 years home and away and so personally whilst I can agree the football isn't mindblowing, I have watched and been involved in football long enough to see some signs of encouragement and can see that the way Jose is trying to play is starting to be and can be effective.

Sure we'd all love to see us playing tiki-taka high intensity beautiful football like Man.City or gegenpressing like Liverpool BUT we DO NOT have the players to do this anyway. We don't have TAA and Robertson at full-back we have Davies and Aurier, we don't have ball-playing CB's apart from Toby, we don't have a proper or single good DM option such as Rodri, fernandiniho, Fabiniho, Henderson, our midfield pairing of Winks and Sissoko pail in comparison to Henderson/Winjaldyum or KDB/D.Silva, our attacking options are no where near as consistently effective as Mane,Salah,Sterling,Marhez, etc, Kane can be world class and Son is not far off but Lucas is no where near and Bergweign is still learning his trade, so look at the reality of the situation and understand that firstly Jose isn't going anywhere anytime soon and secondly he's doing his best to play in a pragmatic way with the current options he has to try and win us games and make us successful. Levy is the one to blame for letting the squad get to this point.

Poch got us closest to those styles during the two seasons we finished 2nd, he also lost two cup finals and 3 semi-finals and then the project and team ran out of gas and a re-build was required. Sure I miss the free flowing football of yesteryear but the fact is that time and time again we haven't got over the line to win anything so for me after 30 years of seeing us be the nearly men, I'm ok to try and get behind a manager who love him or hate him has won trophies at EVERY single club he's been at. He's also come in mid-season to a team with tons of injuries to important attacking players and to a team who were/are low on confidence and exhausted from the emotional and physical toll of the past 5 years off effort under Poch.

So sure you might not enjoy the football too much but if Jose can get some players that he needs to improve clear weaknesses that every man and his dog can see such as : RB,LB,CB,DM,AM,ST then firstly we will see some slightly better football with better attacking full-backs, a DM who can cover the correct spaces, a CM/AM who can create and pass and a back-up to Kane so Kane and the AM's can go more gung-ho knowing there are actually some decent replacements who can fill-in.

Very impassioned, nice post. You and I want the same thing - I'm not expecting us to play free-flowing amazing football, though with Lo Celso, Ndombele, Lamela, Kane, Son, Bergwijn in the ranks it could be argued we should be able to. I do, however, expect us to play better football than Burnley or Sheffield United and we don't currently.

We can win as many trophies as possible under him, but what's the point if it's difficult to watch us? The match yesterday was so boring I was dreaming about doing the washing up. We, as fans, don't get a trophy if the players win one - I just don't find it gratifying as a supporter of the club to not be able to watch the games, whether we win or not. That's not all on Jose, but I'm not confident in his ability to change anything.
