No he doesn’t, no it isn’t and no they weren’t. We literally gave away numerous free kicks in dangerous positions. That wasn’t a Simeone-esque masterclass. It was turgid dog-shit that we came through unscathed due to Everton’s utter incompetence and a lucky own goal.
Lol ok ??

Yes boring game but clean sheet, discipline, focus, effort, organisation, game management and 3pts! Those are things which can lead to success. As I’ve said before it often ain’t pretty but it can be pretty effective. Given how shit and incompetent we were against Sheffield United that was an important performance and win. More and more signs of us becoming a Jose Mouriniho team, I just hope he can get some players he wants.

Loved Toby back at CB for this game, defence was solid, loved Hugo shouting at Son for not tracking back, that’s what we need a bit of fire in our bellies, loved gio playing further forwards, loved the tactical fouls and shithousery especially on Richarlison, it was clear that the tactics were to stop him at all costs and by doing that we stopped them, they had 6 touches in our box, finally I loved the result.

lloris 8- did what he needed to do with the saves and got an extra point for shouting at son more of that please Hugo

Aurier - 6 did ok down the right
Toby 7 solid
Dier 8 class
Davies 7 strong

Sissoko 7 good all round effort
Winks 7 good all round effort

Lucas 7 good effort
Lo celso 8 love him
Son 7 did ok

Kane 7 very strong defensive display lol

You can see what Jose wants from his team and is trying to do but for now we lack the player’s. Two new full backs, Hojbjerg and a combative central midfielder and we should see a colossal improvement in our side. It does however mean bye bye Ndombele but that would be no surprise.

Good ensemble effort for once, and solid at the back. Sissoko MOM for me, then Winks and the CBs. Even Aurier was decent.

That was turgid. I would've thought the players would put up more of a fight, after the Sheff Utd game. Their attitude wasn't great. Nearly every player was flat, displayed little-or-no passion, flounced around the field without a care in the world, were braindead at times, and nearly every player did something stupid during the game.

Lloris - 7 - Gets an extra point for taking Son to task

Aurier - 5 - Did okay defensively, and was piss poor going forward. Gave away silly fouls.
Toby - 7 - Was a lot more solid than Sanchez
Dier - 8 - Glad to see he bounced back after the shocking display in our last game
Davies - 6 - Was average in every possible way

Winks - 6.5 - I don't think he did that badly. But was constantly playing it safe.
Sissoko - 5 - Was ok defensively, but was petrified when it came to receiving the ball. Would always be pointing elsewhere, like the ball was some kind of explosive device.
Lo Celso - 7 - Put in a good shift. But seems to have caught the 'i don't give a shit' bug that's been plaguing the team for 18 months.

Moura - 6 - I felt like he worked hard in fits and starts. But his end product was woeful.
Son - 5 - He huffed and he puffed and just didn't seem to be at the races today. Has regressed massively.
Kane - 5 - Least touches on the field. And didn't cover much ground. He seemed disjointed and disinterested at times. I can't think of many occasions during the game that he won an aerial dual in their half, or game off best in a 50/50 challenge. Another player who is playing far below what they're capable of. Not sure if we'll ever see the player he was two years ago.

Jose - 6 - Seems like we started with a 433, then after 35 mins, went into a 4231. The former seemed to be working. And as soon as we went back to his default formation, we looked shaky and disorganized.

Let's not kid ourselves. Everton were checked out tonight. If they had been switched on, they woulda tonked us. As that display wasn't that different from Sheff Utd. Lazy, careless and feckless. Again.

Signs of improvement again. More organised and defending as a team. Let's not forget how woeful this side were in that respect. JM is making us hard to beat, using defensive tactics to help stop the decline. I'd like to see some prettier stuff, but pragmatism is what we need at the moment. As boring to watch as it is at times.

Dier and Lo Celso my stand outs.

I usually defend Moura, as he draws a lot of fouls and adds a speedy element. But overall I thought he was poor.

But, for me, positives as a win is a win against a very tactical and good side.
Let's wait until Bournemouth and Arsenal before we start down the more organised and defending like a team route as we thought that against West Ham and then look what happened next.

And look what happened for game before against united. 1 particularly inept game.in 4. I'm.confident we won't see another Sheffield capitulation. We may lose, but nit like that. I still think JM is doing what any competent manager / coach would.do and that is trying to get the side organised.

I'm not blind.to the borefest though. I'm just glad we have D 1, L 1, W 2 since the restart as I feared it would be worse.

Something is massively wrong. We just can't find a balance between playing football and keeping a clean sheet. We are very fortunate that Everton showed no ambition.

I like Winks and GLC but I think we need Ndombele in the team to pick to pick out the passes. Whilst sissoko shields the defence, I don't think he does enough with the ball and that ends up inviting pressure back on. At some point we need to decide if we want play football or not. If we don't then carry on as is. If we do get players who can play football

GLC motm.

We look much calmer and organised with Toby at the back. He should be the number 1 choice centre back.

Lloris looked very assured with his handling. Good to see him and Son make up at the end (albeit, I have no doubt that Jose probably told them to).

Going forwards we looked ordinary. Lucas had a few moments, Son looked dangerous on occasions and Kane was pretty timid. Lo Celso was feisty but didn't really look threatening. Sissoko was industrial as always and Winks ticked over nicely.

Big test on Thursday going away to a side fighting for their lives. That will be more of a test than tonight, which was a fairly easy win against a very disappointing Everton side.

Boring game, but we were at least organised and controlled proceeding. Wasn’t that far removed from early Pochettino or Avb in terms of a lot of possession with no penetration. The midfield looked more cohesive, the defence better structured but the attack we stagnant, I’d have Son and Lucas both our for anyone with energy, and Sissoko really needs to be replaced with someone who can pass as well as put in the requisite effort. I loved the treatment we gave Richarlison.

Lloris, Dier and Lo Celso were good.
Winks, full backs, Alderweireld were ok.
Sissoko was average.
Kane and Son were below par.
Lucas was non existent.

Dier for me as well. Very solid. In fact he's been so solid it makes you question the Sheffield United match - aberration? Or always got a mistake in him?

Lloris - 7 - Did what he had to do. Jose clearly wanted the players to hold each other accountable and Lloris went with that message. Not sure Son really deserved it there, but an extra point for the passion.

Aurier - 6 - Did well defensively but had no luck going forward. Ancelotti tried to disrupt the game plan by having Iwobi track so far back in the first half. Between that and Digne actually being a good defender, we had nothing.

Dier - 7 - Good performance. I think the only entertaining thing about Spurs since the restart is the fervor at which Dier throws himself into headers through the back of strikers. Not great on the ball, but kept DCL and the diver from ever getting anything going between them.

Toby - 7 - Now that everyone knows our midfield creates nothing and if you sit deep we’ll never score, Toby hitting those long diagonals was the only time we were able to change it up. Gives us a different dimension offensively compared to Dav/Dier.

Davies -7 - I thought Ben played well. The Everton set up meant that his wing was the open one instead of Aurier’s. It was good to see him get forward again. He can actually cross the ball (though we never had anyone there to get on the end of it).

Winks - 8 - Did his job well. I wish he’d be a bit more proactive in his passing but he played well defensively.

Sissoko - 6 - Did okay. Definitely didn’t drive the team forward like Mourinho apparently was saying in the pregame interviews.

GLC - 8 - MotM for me. His goal was flukey, but he was the only one passing and moving. I think he’s starting to realize that, much like Eriksen before him, he has to both pick up the ball in midfield and create on the edge of the box all by himself. Looked much more alive once Stevie came on.

Lucas - 6 - Frustrating player. He’ll dribble through three and play a nice pass and then one minute later the ball will clatter off him. I don’t think we should ever have Lucas, Aurier, and Sissoko all on the same side if the pitch at the same time. Too much pinball; not enough possession. You also can’t start him and Sonny together unless your whole intention is playing on the counter. Jose loves him, but for me he’s got to be a late sub when we need pace to stretch teams.

Son - 7 - Pretty typical game for Son. Creates chances on his own through his dribbling, but he didn’t really provide much creativity for the team.

Kane - 5 - Bumbled around today. Worked hard defensively, but nothing going forward. Some of it is the system, but some if it is him. Should have had two easy chances if he makes the run for Davies cross or if he follows Lucas’ shot that Pickford spilled. All pretty typical of Kane returning from injury and playing for form.

Bergwijn - 7 - Played well in his cameo. Offers actual movement and linkup play. Why on earth is he not starting?

Lamela - 7 - Did Lamela things. Schooled some defenders, cheaply fouled some guys, and no final pass.

Vertonghen - NA - Get that appearance fee Jan.

Jose - 5 - 3 points is good. Solid defense js good. Offensively horrendous. Our entire offensive strategy has been about unbalancing teams down the right with aurier. They blocked that up and forced us down the left and we responded by doing nothing. I really thought Jose would make the most of having 5 subs, but today they were late and uninspired. Think Ancelotti had the better coaching performance but just didn’t have the players today. Even the most turgid of games under Poch and AVB seemed more exciting than what we’re getting now. Hopefully this offseason he will address the offense. The players are talented, its the system and coaching choices that are letting them down.

I don't even see why he copped flak in that match. If it was that tap in goal then he couldn't really do much - three Spurs players (Moura, Sissoko, Aurier) had proceeded to get their player to point blank range and Dier was completely stuck in the six yard box with very little room to manoeuvre from that point. He had to focus on the ball and not on what was behind him and only by a lot of luck would cut it out and not have a competent pass played either side of him.

The commentator focused on him though bizarrely after that goal, and so the fans did likewise.

I'm sorry but those who are giving Winks a '4' really don't understand the role he is being asked to play under Jose - I'll give you a clue; he started against Everton and we didn't concede, on the bench against Sheffield - give the man a break

Yeah Winks and Sissoko were fine. Solid. And Winks was industrious. There wasn't a hell of a lot of movement up forward, nor much space so he played sensibly if a little dully. But then so did the whole team.

Apart from some crappy loose moments against Sheffield, we have looked very much a JM team. I re-watched the SU game, we were the better team for so much of the game, and were dominant away from home. SU have not had that often this season.

Although we were lucky to get the point against ManU, they did only scored from the spot. Watching ManU since, I’m glad we got them first up, they’ve been outstanding since.

With four games in since the break, we have two clean sheets, we look better in defense, Dier looks a different player and I sense a shift in style. It’s not pretty, it’s tough to watch at times, but I’m hopeful that off the back of a tighter defense, we can unleash some better attacking football as confidence grows. But I’m an eternal Spurs optimist.
