Thought Sanchez and Toby were good today.

Aurier is the worst full back to play for the club since Paulo Tramezzani! He offers absolutely nothing to the team and I reckon by a tough count has two to three errors a game that lead to an opposition goal or clear chance. Every promising position is wasted with terrible crosses or hitting the 1st man more times than Eriksens corners.

I am just astounded he has lasted this long at the club. Absolute ?

It really was a game of two halves. The first half had a real end of season feel to it, very open and end to end, plus a few errors and silly moments, as both teams strolled about playing a bit of football but with far too much time and space afforded to them. If it had carried on like that it would have been down to who could outgun the other and be more clinical with the chances that came their way.

We made a conscious effort to tighten up in the second half, dropped back in to a medium-low block and tried to play on the counter. Defence was very solid apart from a couple of moments and though it took us 20-25 mins to get comfortable playing this way we eventually managed to find the opportunities for the counter attack into space and to create chances and looked the more threatening team as the game got into the final stages. The goal might have been from a set piece but was just reward for the disciplined and professional second half performance.

The centre backs and keeper were the solid rock that the win was built on. And Son, Moura, Kane were much better in that last portion of the game in managing to work hard plus create counter opportunities.
Who are you and what have you done with the real @mpickard2087 :cautious:

My dog is obviously Man of the Match. After watching hours and hours of utter shite since the return, I refused to watch today, safe in the knowledge it would be more of the same. So, I took the dog out for a 2 hour walk and, lo and behold, we fucking won and possibly played quite well. So, my dog Dylan gets my vote. I'm happy to keep supplying this service til the end of the season too.

Voted Skipp MOM
as it might be my only opportunity this season.
Came on with intent
and left with his head held high
ten minutes later
having held the team together
to maintain the lead.
Excellent performance

Strangely I think we’ve stumbled upon a formation to get us through to the end of the season.
ive got no complaints with 3/4 of the back four
We’ve found out that Sissoko is not a cm- what a shock! But that his natural tendency to cover his Rb makes Serge less of a liability.
Lucas equally given a clear wide role was more effective, and Son and Kane looked like they could work together effectively.

Standing ovation: Toby, Dave
Thumbs up: Lloris, Davies, Sissoko, lo celso, son , Lucas, Kane
Thumbs down: Winks
Middle finger: Aurier

Lloris made yet another important save at an important time.

Aurier didn’t mess up defensively, got into great positions going forward, but failed to execute his deliveries.

Sanchez was solid and used his pace well.

Alderweireld was solid and passed out well. Great headed winner.

Davies was solid and passed out well.

Sissoko carried the ball up the pitch well but lacked a final ball.

Lo Celso was overall good, though flitted out of the game occasionally.

Winks was ok but also flitted out of the game too often.

Lucas was tenacious and determined, bossing Bellerin all game and dragging his markets all over the place. Passing was very on point.

Kane came alive well in the final third and but for some great goalkeeping would’ve had at least one goal. Couple of delightful lay offs too

Son was sharp on Arsenal’s mistake before finishing beautifully for his goal, and took a lovely corner for the winner. Wish he’d squared to Kane at the end though. MoTM for the output and general liveliness.

Bergwijn got booked, Skipp had a very positive cameo, Lamela at up seconds.

Overall I’m happy. It’s not superb football but the Auba chances v Lloris and the crossbar aside, I can’t think that we were ever out of control of the flow (even if we ceded possession) while we created enough to score twice as many if we’d had better decisions.

@shelfboy68 if you'd watched it, you'd have windmilled so hard you would have emptied the hot tub mate.

An improved performance, some actual signs of life in the attacking play. Especially toward the end. Defensively sound centrally.

Glaringly obvious as discussed over and over where the limitations are. I was just happy the players put some effort it. Aurier can pack his bags for all i care, but he did work hard. I don't.think anyone was anywhere near as lethargic as the last game. Which is a relief as if they couldn't get themselves up for the NLD then it would be hopeless.

The green shoots of recovery are there. Roll on next season. This one was as shit as 2020 has been a year.

For every mistake Aurier makes, I can point out an occasion where he has covered our ass by protecting either Lloris or CBs when they are out of position. I concede he is not the best, but the hate and vitriol that is spouted against him on this forum is astounding.

Mate Aurier did mess up defensively..it was his donkey touch that led to Lacezzete lashing it in...

He made another hash somewhere as well .

I was annoyed with him at the time but 99/100 that mistake doesn’t get punished by an unstoppable rocket goal of the season contender.
