At last a win albeit against a team that doesn't travel very well. Suspect it will be very tough in Krakow and I expect us to exit the competition.

Gomes - 6
One good save and couldn't do anything about the goal.

Gunter - 6
Did nothing wrong. Surprised he was substituted,

Woodgate - 7
Solid as usual.

King - 5
One horrendous mistake that Woodgate finally cleared. Doesn't look like he'll ever be back to his old form.

Bale - 6
Good game

Lennon - 6
Unlucky to be substituted

Zokora - 4
At fault for the goal. Dire.

Jenas - 5
Great for first 20 minutes but then went missing.

Bentley - 4
Oh dear. He doesn't cross any better than Lennon.

Bent - 7
Tries. Scored one and should have had a second.

Dos Santos - 4
I hope those posters suggesting that he should play as a striker are now convinced of the error of their ways. One horrible miss when he didn't know whether to shoot or pass.

O'Hara - 7 MotM
Changed the game when he came on. His first touch was a glorious ball to Campbell. Tackles, passes, shoots, good positional sense - why isn't he starting? Will never be a great player because he lacks pace but IMO he's the best CM we have at present.

Campbell - 6
Great start. Wonderful cross for the goal. Should start with Bent.

BAE -
Not on long enough to rate.

I am sorry but these are the worst ratings I have ever seen.

I thought the team as a whole played pretty well. We weren't clinical enough with our final ball. Zokora and King both made mistakes but I thought the rest of the game they were pretty decent.

I dont think O'Hara made the difference but rather Campbell who gave the Wisla defence something else to worry about besides Bent.

Bentley, positionally was great today but his final ball was disappointing.
However, how can you justify giving him a 4 when he tucked away a great goal for us today. You have rated Zokora a 4 for one mistake. Crazy mate, truly crazy.

I thought Bale looked lively and I am very excited about his future, as well as Gunter who I thought looked very assured on the ball.

Love Darren Bent. He tried his heart out and got a goal that his enthusiasm deserved.

Shocking ratings. Best player was woody, worst was probarly Gio but hes clearly not a striker. Impressed with Bent, him and Pav will be awesome eventually. Ramos regarded as good coach and tactician, but honestly we are playing some absolute shite with one of the best squads Ive ever seen! Argubarly needs time, but once this team gels we will shoot up the league! COYS!

Gunter didn't do anything terribly wrong, but he didn't do anything terribly right either. Zokora actually looked more effective when he moved to RB.

It's easier to say who wasn't at fault for their goal than who was. Gomes had zero chance. Otherwise it was a collective shambles.

King's worst game since God knows when. I'm worried.

Lots of decent-to-good individual performances but only sporadically a good team performance.

Very much, he was woeful in midfield....yet for one reason or another he looked like a world beater at right back, made some very good runs into their half/box and won the ball well on numerous occasions once the switch was made.

I don't understand the 'Noooo! Not Zokora at RB!' cries. He's looked as good if not better than anyone we've had in that role since Carr was at his peak.

I knew this was going to be a tough game. And so it proved. They were well drilled and technically vey good. In europe we are really going to struggle with the limited Bent up front. Yes he scored but still offers nothing intelligent by way of movement.
Ramos needs to get this midfiled more fluent. We must attack and defend as a team better, especially as we are light in the striker department. We did this at times but nowhere near enough. It was why I wanted players like Modric and Dos Santos.
And the best move of the game which ended up with a wrongly dissallowed goal was a great example of this.

I must have been watching a completely different game to the thread starter (Phil ?)
Because I thought Zokora had a very decent game and Ohara MOTM ? weird. It was Jenas who watched the scorer walz past him into the box and he was the most guilty for their goal.

The substitution of Gunter and the moving of Zokora to RB baffled me also. It's what Jol used to do all the time. Why not just take Zokora off and leave the RB at RB. Strange.

What we miss most is a leader. Someone who will bollock fuckers when the make a mistake or don't do their jobs and organise on the pitch. Someone who will rally when we are flagging or going quiet.

Ratings:

Gomes 6 - no dramas and one great save.

Gunter 6 - fine.

Woodgate 7 - fine plus one great tackle

King 6 - fine ish. one fuck up.

Bale 7 - always looking to get involved.

Bentley 6 - Tried hard. I said before we bought him that he is over rated and over priced. He hasn't proved me wrong yet. Set piece delivery shocking.

Jenas 6 - had long quiet periods, especially in the first half. Completely contrasting his performance monday. Typical Jenas really. Needs to bring his "A" game every time.

Zokora 7 - First half he was busy and moved the ball well.

Lennon 7 - worked hard tonight.

Dos Santos 5.5 - Hard when your partner is as unintelligent and limited as Bent. At times he was lively and looked for the ball but needs at least one player with a brain around him.

Bent 5.5 - scored. Can't really think of another meaningful contribution.

Hope we can at least take some confidence from eeking out a tough win.

GOMEZ= 7

GUNTER= 6
WOODGATE= 7
KING= 6
ZOKORA= 5
BALE= 6
LENNON= 6
JENAS= 5
SANTOS= 6
BENTLEY= 7
BENT= 6
CAMPBELL= 7
O'HARA= 6
BENNY= 4

Not sure about MOTM but CAMPBELL impressed when he came on!
I said quite a while ago that Ledders was finished as a star defender, i wouldn't like to see him finish his playing career for us as a cripple, we must get someone of his quality in January!
It was a mish mash of nothingness tonight, and now we go to Poland and defend our precarious lead, but if we start Campbell we just might nick another goal!

Personally I think Zokora is a great right back - he does not do CM very well but is fast and fit enough to do the wings really well. He was better at RB than in CM tonight/last night anyway.

I worry most about Ledley - he is not the player he was and that was a shocking mistake that nearly led to a goal -

Lennon was not our best player - that was probably O'Hara and his natural role is probably CM as opposed to the back

Ledley's barely played any football over the last few months. He's bound to have a few mistakes in his game. Seriously nothing to worry about. I'd be looking more to the fact that against Chelsea he was an absolute rock.

I don't like bent as a player and could not really put my finger on one single major reason above all other reasons why. I think your post points at intelligence, smartness in the striker is so important and yet in our darren so lacking. that has to be the single biggest reason why i don't rate him.
