Racist abuse in our stands, we need to face it if it’s there.

How moronic must someone be to chant racist crap at an opposition player when our players and fans are from all sorts of cultures?

Sadly part of the problem is that if you are a racist, you are also almost certainly a complete idiot.

The whole culture of football fandom is fairly toxic and is part of what made me stop going to Spurs regularly, but racism is simply stupid.

It's tarnishing Tottenham but more importantly it's tarnishing humans in general. If anyone sees this sort of thing and let's it go on 'club loyalty' grounds then you are just adding to the problem.

Very strange times were living in. The whole political shenagans seems to have gave some morons the impression that this sort of shit is alright again. Football clubs need to make a stand no doubt but this runs way deeper and needs political intervention.
It's had political intervention that's why it's becoming so widespread across the country, hopefully football can lead the way. But let's not go there.

Yeah it was cardboard coffee cups, with lids I think, it was on my side of the south stand, in fact the keeper screwed them up as he threw them behind the goal, other than them I didn't see any bottles near me.

There were definitely at least a couple of bottles thrown on the pitch.

How moronic must someone be to chant racist crap at an opposition player when our players and fans are from all sorts of cultures? Maybe it’s a heat of the moment thing and the person realises they have been at but of a t*** and turns themselves in.

If someone is caught I actually think they should be sent on a course (a bit like speeding drivers) and actually try to be educated about it. Just banning them for life is not solving the wider issue. They’ll still have a shit attitude but just outside of the stadium.

You can’t bring logic into it. A moron’s brain doesn’t work like that.

Just like Chelsea fans who engage in antisemitism when all their success is basically due to a Russian Jew.

It's selective and abuse of the very core of what and who you are and leaves you feeling a lesser person, I know to anyone who hasn't suffered it that may be hard to grasp. Whereas anyone can be a shit a scumbag or a toe rag, even a murderer so it is inclusive in its denigration not excluding.
Yes, I get your point. But, I think you're all familiar with Steffen Iversen? ? His dad, Odd Iversen, was a very talented and great norwegian fotballer. Unfortunately Odd Iversen was an alcoholic. No secret at all. When Steffen played for Rosenborg, supporters from several clubs in several games chanted "son of a drunk". I found that ten times more abusive. If someone calls you the N-word in England, you're not the only black man on the pitch, and there are also both black and colored supporters from both teams there, and "everyone" will react and classify it as disgusting behavior. When some bully you for personal tragedies etc. it is a lot more exclusive and often it doesnt result in the same support and reactions.

Saw a lot of stuff being chucked at the Chelsea players and anyone doing that should be banned for life. Didn’t hear any racism personally.

The BBC reported this as ‘racist songs’ originally and it’s now changed to monkey chants. Despite the fact we all know every fan base has their racist pricks amongst them, I’d be very surprised if this was the case. Hopefully if it is they’ll have video evidence and it will be one person acting alone.... but it’s just something I haven’t seen at the Lane. I’ve been going since 1980 and I’ve never ever heard monkey chants. I’ve heard homophobic songs and other offensive stuff but never monkey chanting. The Adebayor song was racist but I genuinely believe most of the people that sung along with that one did it because they believed it was ‘funny’ and wasn’t overtly racist. (It was racist). But monkey chanting is out and out racist with no ifs and buts. I haven’t seen or heard anything like that where I sit in the Park Lane.

I hope I’m right. Best case scenario is that he misheard and it was just short sharp booing. Then we get our name cleared and carry on as normal. Worst case is it was more than one person and we look like a bunch of cavemen ****s. The only reason I’m questioning it at all is that there still aren’t any images or video footage yet, whereas in the other incidents the footage has been shown straight after. Not sure why they gave 3 announcements too for one incident. Has a reason for this been given or was it just on loop after the incident?

On a positive note, there were lots and lots of angry fans shouting at the ****s throwing shit on to the pitch. Good to see.

There was pandemonium at the time so I suppose it's feasible he was mistaken, I really can't believe he'd be so bad as to make it up so no doubt we will see it on match of the day and get the definitive.

Unfortunately its hard to prove. Rudiger made the same allegations in 2017 about Rona fans but no convictions

Is it allowed to chant whatever you'd like as long as it is not racism, but as soon it is racist, it is so terrible that the persons who did that deserve to be baned for life? Sorry, but to me it seems like that's the general opinion. And I find it kind of ironic and absurd.
Nonsense.

The only bit I find hard to believe is that Azpilucueta heard us singing anything...

Rudiger, was around 25 to 30 yards from the stand, for racist chants to be heard the culprit must of had to scream it and fellow fans in the stand would easily of heard this, I hope I’m correct, but he has misheard as I haven’t seen anyone come out to say they heard anything. If the fans were chanting who let the Yids out, could of misinterpreted the chant for being racist

Tottenham fans are not blameless in any way. What about the "song" that used to be used to be sung to Adebayor a few years back?? 'your dad washes elephants, your mother's a whore' how was that not racist.... and pretty popular?

thats whats sad about society...a chant over colour of skin is far more offensive than a chant thats about a guy killing a small child
Firstly it is worse, because its personal abuse. Being offensive to someone through no fault of their own is far worse than chants directed at someones actions

Second thing, it wasn't a child but a 18 year old girl and he was guilty of drink drive, whilst speeding at 60mph in a 30 zone

I’ve always felt we can get a bit self righteous about our lot and the anti Semitic thring and now we’re are somewhat morally suporier with it. When we’re are prefercly capable of hate filled nonsenses. I suspect if the accident of geography that defined us as Jews back in the 70s had acuslky been an alternative team, we probably would have given as much hate filled antisemtic abuse. Sorry

Agreed, intervention was probably the wrong word but you know what I mean. I don’t think this problem was born in football but football is an obvious place for it to raise its ugly head. A Pandora’s box has been opened by political events all over the globe and it’s going to be bloody difficult to put it back in its box.
