Racist abuse in our stands, we need to face it if it’s there.

Nope nothing.
Although you're not allowed to point that out in this thread, it's deeply frowned upon.

This is a total overreaction in that case and I'm not just saying that because it's Spurs...I'm black too and have been and still am a victim of racial abuse but we're setting a dangerous precedent here if we are trying to stamp out racism it needs to be confirmed incidents, as much as I really want players and other fans coming forward I don't want players and others falsely accusing because that will eventually dilute the seriousness of the problem.

And yes, I recognise that my name on here is questionable - when originally choosing it, I was not fully aware of the connotations: if I could change it I would and I regret using it.
It may be worth asking @Rob if there could be a one off opportunity to change names for those who have the word Yid in their user name and now wish to change it.

Mate we've been tried and convicted by the media already, it's over.
Last night it was being reported as an 'alleged racist incident', which is correct....this morning they've dropped the 'alleged' yet there seems to be absolutely no evidence so far, apart from the accusation.

This is how society works now.

We're going to have to wear this and that's considering what some of our fanbase has had to put up with over the years and no one has blinked a fucking eyelid.

We've made a bunch of arrogant, bigoted, racist ****s come out smelling like fucking roses.

Utterly fucking galling.

The concerning thing about this is your use of 'We've'...this has occurred exclusively from an allegation of one Chelsea player.
I'll be the first one to condemn the actions of the moron/s if this is proven true, but the haste from our own fans to take this allegation as a given is worrying, as @Shadydan said, this sets a very dangerous precedent.

Well, I don't like saying the media has set it, I get told that the media don't have it in for us ... Rock and a hard place mate.

Some are just nasty people in any case, some just lose it in the heat of the moment, booze is a factor too, but every club has them and it's not some grand revelation today.

In defense of booze, it doesn't make you racist. It makes you gobby but doesn't suddenly make you racist. Don't be nasty about booze, it's my friend.

that is very wrong nothing should get thrown at players, bans are needed for that

I was at Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich around y2k. They were selling fruit outside to throw at the keeper (Oliver Kahn). Was amazing to see people chucking Tomatoes and veg at him everytime the ball was down the other end (was like panto).

Do we have any evidence that suggests something did happen?
No, it's a criminal offence and as such evidence would not be released into the public domain. Unless Tommy Robinson was there...

The banana incident was Not a racist act, I know the fella who threw that, he was a fucking idiot who got banned for it and deservedly so for many reasons except racism... This has been covered before that he picked up anything by his feet and chucked it at the arsenal player.... Again I'm in no condoning this moronic act and he deserved his ban but it wasn't a racist act just a bizarre incident, if it was an apple on the floor by his feet he would have thrown that.... So please stop referring to it as a racist incident its just the media deciding it was without really searching the truth, I've spoken to the fella and totally believe him he is greek and has no racist bones in his body, stupid yes, loutish yes, moronic yes.

Why do people keep saying "he is Greek" when defending him? Do they not have racists? Are they thick?

Is it allowed to chant whatever you'd like as long as it is not racism, but as soon it is racist, it is so terrible that the persons who did that deserve to be baned for life? Sorry, but to me it seems like that's the general opinion. And I find it kind of ironic and absurd.

You aren't allowed to chant "whatever you like".
I’ve never been so ashamed
Really? Was it you?

You'd imagine with the fans mobile phones that they seem to have out at any given second then something would've surfaced by now.

If the club are dealing with this properly (and I believe they are) then no evidence will be leeked during a criminal investigation.

I suspect what's happened is that different things have got merged into one. Rudiger is getting booed, he's looked over towards the corner, you have one (or two...) prat(s) he notices giving it monkey gestures etc, and so the assumption becomes the whole stand are racist chanting.

No doubt for me he saw something that he took offence to, but probably a case where a wider fanbase and the club have been made to look very bad because of a couple of fucking idiots. And that's before the missiles launched onto the pitch...

I was referring more to the haste that people have for attracting attention on social media...you're right though if someone has recorded it and passed it to the club privately.

Is it criminal offence? I don't know UK law, but in here it would have to be either defamation or incitement to ethnic or racial hatred and this case wouldn't be classified as either. It's shitty behavior and it's good that it is punishable by clubs, but would this really classify as crime in UK? And what would be the crime in question.

I have a strong suspicion that Rudiger has (quite innocently) mistaken the fierce booing for monkey noises (easy enough to do) and made a mountain out of a molehill. However, if Spurs fans are found to be that stupid, then I hope the full force comes down on them.

I, for one, would welcome a full investigation by an independant authority........and look forward to them looking more closely at some of the Chelsea behaviour.

I've no idea if there was an idiot (or multiple idiots) making monkey noises but what I do know is the South Lower has plenty of fucking idiots so it's not out of the bounds of possibility. I saw a coffee cup, a couple of lighters and a season ticket all thrown onto the pitch. Surely in our super modern stadium it must be relatively simple to check CCTV and the microphone recordings around the pitch?

I really hope that Spurs come out in the next day or two and share their "thorough investigation" and the results of this so we can punish the idiots for throwing shit and if found any racists - if there is no evidence can we move swiftly on?

I suspect the "monkey chants" Rudiger thought he heard from a sizable section of fans was in fact fans chanting "who who who the Y*ds are". You could hear that chant clearly and the spurs players seemed to be trying to explain that to Rudiger who repeatedly mistook the repetitive chanting of "who" as a racist slight.

Those of you who are british and more yhN 45 years old (or something like that): When was monkey chants a problem at english stadiums, and has it ever been a huge problem? Isn't that typical Italy or Eastern-Europe?
