Norwich game is crucial, we need to make a statement and build some confidence

We have all the big teams left at home, so we need to start making it a fortress

We have plenty of winnable games away, we need to beat the teams we should be beating

We can still do it, we need to go on a run like Watford and Southampton did. Quickly make up the ground on a young Chelsea team and watch them and Man Utd bottle it

Aint happening. I’d be surprised if we manage to win more than 2 in a row for the rest of the season.

The only race we are in as far as I’m concerned now this season is to finish ahead of Arsenal.

I’m not even particularly confident of that, but it’s all I’ve got left.

Right now it looks very unlikely, sure, but before Christmas both Southampton and Watford looked dead and buried

We are lucky in as far as the teams around us and above us have almost been as poor as us and left the door slightly ajar

It's a big ask, but if we can get a few wins in a row and put the pressure on the teams above and around us, it's a long shot we can make still

I agree it's still possible. You are right that our competitors are also poor, and therefore beatable.

When looking at our lineups though I just don't see where the wins are coming from. We don't have the personnel to play a defensive team, ship few goals and counter. When we play an attacking lineup I still don't see where the goals are coming from.

A purple patch from Son or a player to really step up could make a huge difference. At the moment I don't see it happening but I live in hope.

I just can't see it. I think we'll get somewhere between 50 and 60 points which won't be good enough for top 4.

We would need to almost double our PPG in order to reach 70 points which is basically 13 wins out of the remaining 15. It isn't happening.

Agree, we have roughly a 15% chance of Top 4 according to bookies odds. I think that is roughly right, maybe being slightly generous to us.

Yeah this team isn't capable of putting together a run because to do that, we would have to beat one of the big teams to do it the way our schedule is.

I think now we will just trying to ensure we have Europa league football next season and go and win that, trophy + CL qualification, allowing us time to rebuild this squad and start challenging domestically again, similar to what he did at United...but hopefully with a better ending.

I think if we get 5th we should class that as a good season considering what has happened.

I'm thinking more likely between 6th to 8th.

Some stats for you that will primarily fend of any hope that we have for finishing top 4 (the first part courtesy of Lee McQueen on Last Word on Spurs pod):

  1. The average number of points required to finish Top 4 in PL over last 20 years is 72 points.
  2. Currently we have 31 points (from 24 games) - that is an average of 1.35 pts per game
  3. To get to 72 points we'll need to take 41 points from 15 games - that is 2.73 pts per game. 2.73 pts is championship winning form. Throughout our 2016-17 season we only averaged 2.26 pts per game.
And this is before you consider our form which of late has seen us fail to beat Norwich, Southampton, Middlesbrough and Watford.

The only glimmer of hope I can give you is that by this point of the season (since 2003) the team in 4th place has had on average 43 points - Chelsea are on 39 which suggests that the threshold may be lower this season - potentially as low as 66-68; however that would still require us to take 2.33 pts per game for the remainder of the season to even be in that equation.

For these reasons Top 4 is a write-off (though Jose and players shouldn't concede this). For me its now a question of weighing up whether finishing 7th and getting in Europa League is better than not being in Europe at all.

No way will be 72 pts more likely 65pts could be even lower. The lowest ever was 60pts.

We're getting just about what we deserve in terms of points. I have a hard time imagining us starting to perform at a level that would see us going on a run that lets us make up the points gap on all of the teams above us. We've got to be looking at the longer term and make choices based on what we want to be as a team going forward.

If we can get a striker in I'll be more confident of getting top 4 but the league is so competitive except for liverpool and city that any chance of going on a run is unlikely. Even city arent great at the moment

I’d say it’s still very much in our own hands. Chelsea have to go to Anfield, if we can beat them at the bridge it’s 2 more points to find over another 13 games.

Thing is, the way we are playing im not even confident of beating 'bottom of league' Norwich... at home.

I mean Norwich pretty much outplayed us a few weeks ago, can't wait for Wednesday:LOL:

I wish we could've turned our stadium into a fortress:cry: I miss WHL.

Unfortunately Levy designed the stadium for the purpose of making money with little thought of the atmosphere, acoustics apart.
Don't get me wrong, i am all for the club making money and i applaud him for that.

If he wanted a fortress with a magical atmosphere he would have designated the south stand to fans of the 1882 group, and advertised the stand as one for fans of similar type with prices to match.
He could have sat with the 1882 group and discussed a crowd flag etc , a kop end type stand.

Instead we have got a stand with a mixed bag, boring snotty fans, tourists and casual fans = little atmosphere.

Top 4 is doable for us and a number of teams if we can win 11 or more of the 15 games left.
I personally doubt we or anyone else in the mix for the 3/4 spots will go on a run like that so the advantage is obviously with Chelsea and Leicester who already have the points advantage

so not doable then! :cautious:
