Having suffered (I mean supported) as a fan for 30 years, I'd put our chances of finishing top 4 in the same bracket as Donald Trump ditching MilanIa for Hilary

Unfortunately Levy designed the stadium for the purpose of making money with little thought of the atmosphere, acoustics apart.
Don't get me wrong, i am all for the club making money and i applaud him for that.

If he wanted a fortress with a magical atmosphere he would have designated the south stand to fans of the 1882 group, and advertised the stand as one for fans of similar type with prices to match.
He could have sat with the 1882 group and discussed a crowd flag etc , a kop end type stand.

Instead we have got a stand with a mixed bag, boring snotty fans, tourists and casual fans = little atmosphere.
Frankly, with the acoustics in the stadium being the incredible feat of engineering they are, even a core of 10k fans willing to sing and make noise spread around the ground should easily make up for 50k tourists and more casual fans.

Just face it, Spurs fans far too rarely made old WHL a fortress, let alone the new ground. The atmosphere was often good when Jol was boss, patchy under Redknapp, and good again the last two WHL seasons with Poch, but the crowd has always been too quick to go completely passive. You can't just blame ticket prices for that.

Win tomorrow and it's a 6 point gap, and could be in 6th. Not over yet ... until we don't win tomorrow of course.

Bears repeated repeating: apparently insurmountable points gaps can, and very often do, get overturned quickly at this point in the season.

3 wins in the next few games and everything will seem like it's back on. That's how it goes. You can always make an argument that it's in our hands with the number of rivals playing each other but obvs I won't hold my breath as we are quite capable of dropping points at home to Norwich

As an aside, look where Southampton are now. We might be battling them for 4/5/6/7 come the end of the season. And I really don't fancy our chances in the FAC

Previous season's points for Top 4 have little relevance to this year. There are so many poor teams battling it out that the figure required will be far lower, maybe even low 60s. If we win against Norwich tonight, the next 3 fixtures for us and Chelsea are likely to be key.

Please close this thread or change it to 'The Race for Mid-Table';)
Win today.
Sign Bale & a striker.
Get players back for injury.
I reckon we will battle for top 4, again.

Again this is Spurs and we're dreadful to watch at the moment, so who am I kidding.. But seriously though

We're not getting in, we don't defend well enough, we're too passive and play with no intensity, just got to accept that this season is a transition season and look forward to next season.

Chelsea, Man U look almost as frail as we do. If DL can even that out a little bit over next two weeks, we may have a shot. But agree, we dont look up to scratch.

I've honestly seen more from both teams although Rashford missing for Man Utd is a blow for them and Chelsea are inconsistent, we don't seem to have a direction at the moment, honestly think we need to move a few on because there's a current stench at Spurs.

I would agree, but it’s funny what a couple of wins, a bit of confidence coming back, and a couple of players like Sonny finding form can do.

Add to that signing some sort of competent striker and getting Ndombele and Lo Celso on the pitch together and we could do something.

At the the end of the day this is a squad with a whole lot of gaping holes and weaknesses but a lot of our rivals for fourth also have problems too.

We're miles away from performing well enough but are within striking distance on points. Levy simply has to shore up the defensive midfield and get a striker if there is to be any hope, IMO. If we had a focal point to play off of up front and a player providing both a shield for the back line and a platform for the likes of Ndombele and Lo Celso to play off of I think we could see our performance levels increase significantly. But without those improvements in the squad I don't see us raising our levels enough to give it a real run.

We still have a chance as the teams we are competing with for the final CL place are just as inconsistent as we are, although Chelsea have to be favourites for 4th.

Top 3 positions I cannot see changing

Sadly, I think Chelsea are much better than us currently. I think they’ll finish top 4 comfortably at this rate.

The problem we've got is the number of teams competing with us and the fact there's only now seemingly one spot up for grabs. Statistically therefore top 4 seems highly unlikely. I'd take us finishing in the Europa League. I know it divides opinion but it's a route to the CL for me.

We've made up 5 points on 4th place, and 6 points on Chelsea, in the 12 games since Mourinho took over. With 14 games left, if those rates continue, it'll come down to the odd point or goal difference.
