With City being banned, does that mean 5th makes the CL?
Yes unless its us who get 5th. Then it'll be just 3 go through.
Seriously I wouldnt be surprised if just 3 go through. UEFA hate everything about EPL so doubt they'll drop to 5rh place. Who knows though.

Surely they will appeal?
Surely the CAS will enjoin UEFA from applying the ban until it's been adjudicated. I haven't followed CAS cases at all in the past but I'd be surprised if the matter were completely decided within six months, so I'd be a bit surprised if the ban were applied next season.

not Wolves?
I forgot Everton too who seem to have improved since Ancelotti took over (although hopefully we should be able to stay ahead of them).

I'm just talking straight up maths really, I totally get what you're saying though.

Chelsea had transfer ban then appealed and got the jan window reduced

Their appeal will drag on for months if not years. So the ban will be suspended until that's over, so no chance it can be relevant for this season, sadly.

Of course it is possible that they'll allow the ban to move forward but qualification for the group stage is worth something in the order of 50m with the potential for significantly more to follow. That's a massive cost to impose on a company that has yet to have its day in court.

I don't know anything about the procedure involved in appealing to UEFA and then to the CAS, but given the sums involved I'd be surprised if the ban were enforced before City has fully litigated the matter, it doesn't strike me as just. The question then would be whether it can be resolved before the tournament begins next season, and again while I don't know the slightest thing about the process I'd be surprised if it were. It'd be fantastic if fifth place were good enough to qualify next season but that's not at all certain IMO.

This thing has dragged on long enough. Surely an appeal is going to lead nowhere.
It does make the landscape very different knowing that wherever City finish will affect the European qualifications. I wonder if Pep will leave now. CL is the one thing missing with his time at City so nothing left to go for after this season.

England has 4 spots, they can’t take that away because of City’s cheating.

ESPN journalist say the appeal will be heard before next season and that CL places drop to 5th this season

So. We need to establish

When they appeal does the ban get delayed until CAS makes its adjudication - if no then 5th almost certainly gets UCL this season
If not
How will it take for the appeal to get to CAS and for them to decide
Can CAS hear the case in time for next year’s UCL entries
