SPURS HEADING BACK TO THE USA
Posted by Tottenham Hotspur on 30 December 2013 - 17:55

- Club confirms third United States tour in five years

- July fixtures against MLS sides Sounders FC and the Fire confirmed

- A host of supporter events planned in Seattle and Chicago

We are delighted to announce that the First Team squad will travel to the United States of America for a pre-season tour in July 2014 as part of our preparations for the 2014/15 season.

The tour will commence with our first-ever visit to Seattle where, on Saturday 19 July, we will face three-time US Open Cup winners Seattle Sounders at CenturyLink Field. The fixture will see us come up against Clint Dempsey, who made 43 appearances and scored 12 goals during his time with the Club last season.

The tour will also see us make a maiden trip to Chicago where we will face four-time US Open Cup winners Chicago Fire at Toyota Park on Saturday 26 July.

Both matches will be accompanied by a range of hugely popular fan events including open training, 'meet and greet' opportunities with the players, supporter evenings with Club Legends and football coaching courses. These events will serve to complement the Club's ongoing commitment to its supporters, including our 24 Official Supporters Clubs, and the Club's portfolio of partners in the United States.

Speaking on the announcement of our 2014 pre-season plans, Head Coach Tim Sherwood added: "Everyone is looking forward to travelling to the United States - the Club’s third tour there in five years.

“Pre-season preparations are always key ahead of a new campaign. We all know that the US has first-class facilities, while Major League Soccer is growing each year.

“The MLS opposition we face will be in the middle of their seasons and playing in their home stadiums so we can expect strong tests from both Seattle Sounders and Chicago Fire. This can only help as we plan for the new season.

“The Club is rightfully proud of its large and growing fan base in the States and we look forward to meeting with as many of our loyal fans from across the country as we can.”

Keep an eye on our website as well as our official social media channels for the latest information ahead of our tour including announcement of additional fixtures, ticket news and supporter events.

Hoping for a fixture at Yankee Stadium. Too bad everyone will likely be in Brazil still.

Really hope we add a date somewhere in the Northeast, I was at Red Bull Arena for the game two years ago.

Sooooooo happy! Only a 40 min drive for me to get to Toyota Park. Much quicker than the attempted drive to WHL (water is not very automobile friendly).

I don't know why ENIC don't just do a spurs franchise club in MLS. Would strengthen our fan base over there and give us a good place to loan players. Really pleased to see us over there again wish I could make it!

There was talk that the Fire's new manager was in London a couple of weeks ago to meet with Spurs about a possible "partnership". The Fire had one with Atletico Madrid for the last couple of years, but that was discontinued recently. I'd be over the moon if that was the case. Not that it would necessarily help THFC much, but it would be awesome to see some players playing in Chicago (whether they be old, young, or in between) who have (or had) affiliation to THFC.

Do we not have a partnership with San Jose any more?
The new Fire HC and Director (Frank Yallop, played for Ipswich back in the day) was the HC at San Jose when the partnership with Spurs started up (took Dawkins on loan). He was apparently close w/ Arry and still has some connections w/ the club.

That could work very nicely for me.

There's a strong possibility that I will be in Chicago in late July.
