Yeah I think it’s been inevitable for about a week or so. I think the only thing that stops it now is the players striking and refusing to play.

One thing I don’t get. They are having to train in masks but not play in them. What’s the point?

This also confused me, they could even take advantage of it and get sponsored masks, something I wouldn't put past the club's doing.

There are 5 stage documents circulating that have behind closed doors returning in phase 3 from 29th June, and that's if stage 1 and 2 go smoothly. Absolutely not ITK, but thought it was interesting none the less
I will return to say that on further inspection these look like a reworking of the Irish exit strategy, so likely something being shared on that basis rather than literally the new UK exit strategy

I think the season restarting is fairly inevitable which is fucking stupid.
Fucking stupid is an overstatement. There are many factors here to be looked at but for me the two questions below are the biggest reasons why football restarting might not be "fucking stupid":

- If the rest of the country has lifted restrictions by the time football resumes then why should football still be in lockdown?
- Who is going to prop up the clubs that can't afford for football not to return?

Small update......

Just heard from my contact and they're hoping to get it started between the 8th and 13th of June.

He said it's one million percent going ahead though.

I know it's not groundbreaking but it's all solid info.

The problem is, the season shouldnt restart. But apparently owners money > peoples lives

But this applies to everything, not just football.

McDonalds owners money > peoples lives
Aston Martin owners money > peoples lives
B&Q owners money > peoples lives

It's a risk vs lives discussion now. Can the risk be reduced enough so as to massively reduce the likelihood of people dying from football being started back up?

And as i've mentioned before, if other industries can start back up then surely football is being penalised if it's not allowed to (with measures in place such as no crowds and other preventive procedures).

Was there a cut off date of around the 16th of June or something that the season has to start by, otherwise the season wouldn’t be finished by the date of the UEFA cut off point.
Or have I made that up

Thanks for the info.

Not groundbreaking, but I think it is wrong, take away the whole side of morally wrong when still high deaths, the testing number not being reached:- I just dont see how it fair to play remaining games at neutral venues, with teams possibly missing players who cant play due to the virus or living with a vulnerbale person, any ounce of creditablity this season had has gone.

How European football will be played next season, that will be interesting.....but what this has all proved is that it will. Money talks.

The NFL's approach is slightly different. They've got plenty of time to get their ducks in a row as their season starts in September. We had the option of doing the same with football here of course.

Spot on! I said last week that money talks and it's proven to be true unfortunately. I repeat, you wouldn't believe the power companies like BEIN Sports have, it's ridiculous.

Will be interesting to see BEINs power in relation to the Newcastle takeover

It was 16th July that it had to be finished/completed by, otherwise monies owed to broadcasters.

There were 6.1k cases yesterday and over 600 deaths. In 5 weeks numerous things could happen only takes 1 high level manager or player fo get ill. The intention maybe 1 million percent but the reality right now is probably 50%.

Sensible. Entertainment with patrons should be the last thing to return as they are large gatherings of 500 or more. And that shouldnt return until a vaccine is available. It only takes one to cause another outbreak and it will only be worse the more people at the place there are.

Mirror has 5 stages & football is shown coming back behind closed doors in the 5th stage in Oct.

Mind you I've given up speculating because the Prem is being driven by financial considerations & not peoples or players health.

I think that was the possibility of fans returning, I think they mentioned June for behind closed doors

October sounds optimistic to me for fans. But if they take it month by month beginning in September and the infection rate is sitting at zero through Christmas, I could see them doing a phased reopen as I said earlier in this thread. Begin at 10% and try to get to 50% capacity by seasons end. Then hopefully have normalcy(fan wise) by 21/22 season

I wonder how UEFA will run European competitions next season given the various countries different approaches. It may well be no bad thing to be out of European competition for a season and may not be such a big draw for players who don't fancy the added risk.
