Next scheduled fixture is now away to Newcastle in the Premier League on the 2nd of May. But I'm very much struggling to see that to be honest.

I reckon the next announcement will be that they’ve reluctantly decided to call the season off

With 9 or 10 games to go, they are fast running out of time to get the remainder of the season done.

We'll see how far they're prepared to stretch the "indefinite" part of indefinitely but there won't be football played for months. The peak of the virus isn't expected until the end of April and with how competently the government has dealt with it so far a) lockdown procedures will be put in place and b) those procedures will be in place for a long time.

I'm a fan of predicted finishes like they are discussing re exam grades following school closures, so I'd say on biased views that we were going to finish first and Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea were going to finish in the bottom 4 places, so I'd be happy to see 3 of these 4 relegated, and add one more in for good measure by relegating all 4 given we are in unprecedented times. I'd also disqualify City just for good measure and extend the Champions League ban to the PL for them.
I would then take 95 % of all the profits from these 5 clubs generated over the last 5 seasons and Sky and BT revenues from these clubs from this season and redistribute it to all the EFL clubs in League One and Two to alleviate their financial hardships.

How does that sound ?

I agree. If they postpone now then fans of certain teams (and pundits) would be howling. The PL will wait till the height of the crisis and cancel it then.

Personally, I wish they would just cancel it now so that everyone can focus on the shit storm we are entering.

Tbh if this isn't anything more than a minor distraction to what is going on at the moment, then you need to take a long hard look at yourself.

The only people that should actually be concentrating on this are those that do it for a living.

I’d say that there’s virtually zero chance of the season being called off. They’ll just pick it up when all this blows over (however long that takes), and then delay the start of next season.

This just opens up another can of worms. Would there be a transfer window mid-season? Teams in with a really good shout of CL like Sheffield United would probably be blown out of the water by Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal.

If not transfer window then there is the issue of out of contract players not being replaced (e.g. Vertonghen).

Absolutely. Football has very much gone to the back of my mind since this all kicked off. There are simply far more important things going on right now than a bunch of men kicking a ball around.

PL know the season is done, they're just buying some time to think about how they're gonna let Liverpool down ?

Nothing concrete, but the legal ramifications from the Championship clubs, and the likes of Utd, Wolves and Sheffield Utd, who would all miss out on game changing revenue if the season is voided, would be huge.

There's also the matter of Liverpool's 'title'. I just can't see the powers that be in this country denying them the chance to play the 2 games they need to wrap it up.

I agree that's a complication, but not as insurmountable as the likes of Leeds and West Brom being denied promotion, or a powerhouse like Utd being told they're back in the Europa League again.

Haven’t they also agreed that the league has to be finished before 1st of June. If that is true then if the leage cant start at the new date it will not be possible to finish.

They would have to be aiming for late May at the latest to restart the season and have teams playing Saturday/Wednesday until 30th June. Issue with this:

You would need to cancel domestic cups and European competitions
Players will have been without match practice for 8-10 weeks

Just don't see how it can happen at all.

Say the powers that be decide to play the games to get Liverpool the title. (just forgetting everything else for the mo.)
What happens if they lose the first two, do they continue until they pass the finish line?

This should have been the date it was postponed to from the beginning, but I can't imagine even this will be anywhere close to viable. I think what will probably happen is in a couple of weeks we will see a third, final postponement to some date between the middle and end of May. They will try to push the cram all the games in by the end of June thing, or maybe July becomes an option ... but even when this all starts to clear, you can't just start everything up again at the first signs of improvement. So I think at that point, probably sometime at the end of April or early May, we will see a cancellation announcement, and I doubt many will be arguing about it at that time.
