Behind a paywall so I can’t read it but the opening suggests all the tv money won’t be forthcoming. That could fuck over a lot of clubs who are very dependent on it.

Force majeure. It's all over the sport. The only certain thing is that the fans will ultimately be the ones that are screwed over.

As annoying as Liverpool fans are - it would be totally unfair for them to be deprived of the title at this stage.
True but it would be fucking hilarious. May go down as my most favorite season ever. Love me some schadenfreude

I think voiding the season is firmly on the table and not pie in the sky at all. Based on what the government has been saying this could well go on for months. I don't see the whole football world picking this season up where it left off should the suspension continue until say August. That would be a massive upheaval that would take many seasons to recover from schedule wise. It would also make fitting the European Championships a real struggle to fit in.

The more I think of it the more voiding the season seems the tidiest. Initially I was in the camp of just stopping the season wherever it ends but in many ways once you take the formality of Liverpool out of the question it would be pretty unfair everywhere else.

The only way to avoid voiding the league IMO is if all the games can be completed in time before the 6-week mandatory break that I believe the players require, so realistically before the end of June or July at the latest (even this would lead to a 1-2 month late start of the league). Even finishing behind closed doors brings up issues with a level playing field, which could be argued as the difference between relegation and CL qualification if the final margins are fine.

Us getting CL qualification out of the league being voided is a different story altogether as there is no precedent. The PL could go down the route of using last year's 4 with Leicester coming in for City should they be banned, again that would probably be the neatest, if not necessarily the fairest (it would be an absolute robbery on our part).
Karma for us being left out when we finished 4th and missed out.

Well I'll be definitely cancelling my BT and Sky subscriptions!! Always hated giving them money. Perhaps this is the reality check clubs and broadcasters needed; had they been fair with the fans, there may have been a bit more loyalty and understanding when things got tough. Now, people will just say tough shit, you aren't having my money.

1/10 that Levy still requests payment on next year's ST's in a month or so's time.

From a selfish perspective, it gives us extra time for Sonny and Harry to get back.

Although I think it'll end up being cancelled altogether if things carry on how they are.

i bet this was the first thing most of us thought of ?

Dunno, ladies and gents. I might come across as a party pooper, I mean I am a party pooper, but let's not play too many jokes on Liverpool yet. There might come a time when we can joke about Liverpool, and believe me I will participate, but let's hold off for now?

The legal ramifications of not voiding it are the same though - those teams who have players and staff with the virus are going to complain of an unfair disadvantage.

Didn't seem to bother them when we went to Upton Park with half our squad poisoned

How does Champions / Premier league prize money work out from TV or UEFA/association, could they not give those out this season, void the whole thing and just keep it back for next season. Then start over in August as if this season never happened? Sounds too simplistic but just curious how money from UEFA, Leagues/TV etc is distributed out. After all if nobody benefited from any prize money this season then surely it's all fair ;-) Just clutching at straws to see if we can somehow hang on to our Champions League spot!

If the season cannot be completed then personally I think the fairest thing would be to have the same teams who qualified for the Champions League last season automatically qualify again but the PL rolls over to next season in terms of points.

So there would be no teams relegated or promoted, but the season so far wouldn't be for nothing. Liverpool won't have won the league but they will start with a massive points advantage running into next season.
