It will restart in april but all games behind closed doors and possibly shown for free on tv. Season wont get null and void as much we'd love it. Too much money at stake.

So they restart in April with empty stadiums but what happens if a manager like Arteta or a player develops symptoms of the virus do you then cancel that teams next game , it could be a never ending series of cancellations if someone in every team shows symptoms.

I agree. Start-stop-start-stop is not going to happen. Postponing footie until April is not a final decision, it's a space to reach decisions and to ensure the situation is not out of hand before they can decide. No reason now for us to come up with bombastic conclusions on what will become the case. Let the associations, domestic and international, have this period of processing, and let's see where it takes us. One thing I know, for a Tottenham fan it's not the worst thing in the world to have the league cancelled for a bit.

Perhaps those that have symptoms will self isolate and the game goes on with those that dont have symptoms. it may mean youth players getting promoted to make up the numbers and maybe even reserve managers stepping in if the main manager has it.

It seems like majority of the population will get it anyway and vast majority of the cases are mild.

Not really. Not because the situation in the UK isn't bad, it is. But because the official numbers for UK (and also US btw) is a fraction of actual cases out there. So on one hand, the curve isn't really steeper. On another hand, the overall number of cases isn't really that much lower.

Look at the graphs we are 2 weeks behind Italy they hit 3.5k new cases today. At current rate UK will be 1k new cases a day by Tuesday. People are massively sleeping on this. Trust me in 2-3 weeks you’ll only be leaving home to get food.

I agree with you in principal. I'm not downplaying the situation really, I'm arguing for the opposite. That the situation in the UK is already in real terms, at the point you are suggesting will become the future. But the the official figures only show a fraction of the reality that's already there.

Just end the season here. Harsh on all those in relegation and missing out on promotion/European qualifications. But it makes it clean, without hassle and complications. More important things.
The biggest winners by far in this scenario will be the lawyers.

From a Premier League perspective, the only real middle ground will be to just award the title to Liverpool then equally split the remaining prize money for positions among the rest of the teams involved.

Sure, some will miss out and some will benefit more than they would've, but that will mostly be the teams that can realistically afford to take a hit at the top of the table and will benefit struggling teams at the bottom.

Work with the EFL and have no promotions this season, let them decide if they relegate/promote to Div 1 depending on how many games have been played etc.

UEFA will have to make up their own mind on qualification for the various cups, no idea how they will decide that - small summer knockout tournaments for each country's top league? Who knows.

Not everyone is going to be happy whatever is done with this season now - suggestion from Jenas was to scrap all of the cup competitions to allow room for the games to be rescheduled but if this goes on longer than two weeks, no chance of cramming those four/five games back in.

God no please
The financial impact of all this is going to be extremely interesting, even wealthy clubs can't go on paying massive wages to some of these players as TV revenues etc will all be reduced , players taking pay cuts that will be fun.

We can start by cutting the wages of all three senior goalkeepers for underperforming :)
And we could cut Dembele's pay considerably until he can actually run for more than 10 minutes.

award Liverpool the title? Why? What if their entire squad got served a dodgy lasagne the night before each remaining game? What if Salah, Mane and Firminio all got injured at the same time, what if they run out of gas like a 400m runner with 100 metres left to go?

until they mathematically win it then fuck em, they aren’t champions of anything as far as I’m concerned.

Take a good look to the world outside UK, and I guarantee you will forget all about football for at least the next 2-3 months. Every European country is about to enter a weeks-long period of quarantine that resembles martial law. It has already started in many places including where I live. Plus the British government may be the least thoughtful and proactive in all Europe. There is no way football resumes this season unless the powers that be are okay with thousands of deaths. Which may happen anyway.
I am sorry but you are about to become a ghost country before you see any football again.

fair :)
But it is quite a hard one (once we remove the spurs tinted glasses)
How do you not give this Liverpool team the title?
How do you just pop us back into the CL next season (after this utter shit show) and deny Leicester?
But similarly how do you relegate teams to the Championship knowing that one could have made it free?
But how do you not reward Leeds et al for an amazing season?
It's not easy. Scrap the season? Well, why not pick up where you left off in the late summer - have a mini break and then start a season where perhaps all the domestic cups are scrapped and CL/EL are shortened a bit?

the thing is it would be cruel on Leeds and WBA, but at the moment they are both still catchable, and both teams have shown dips in form already this season

Just been watching the highlights of an old match from 1977/8 season. Spurs 9-0 winners in a match with both strikers out and a makeshift attack. Nice to remind me of what scoring goals looks like. Thanks BT! More of this please and less of this season

Think I’ll watch it again

I’ve just thought of something that hasn’t been suggested.

All teams are quarantined at their training grounds for two weeks to make sure no players or coaches have the virus. Then games are played behind closed doors or even at each club’s own training grounds a week or so later.

Virus wouldn’t be present in the players and the games get played.

but wouldn't that give Arsenal an advantage, they are used to playing in a library
