Keep the goal line technology and hopefully the automated offside will address the 'lines' issue. These are both factual/binary decisions (yes or no).

With the subjective/opinion based decisions, it should solely be up to the match referee to decide.

All VAR replays should be at 'normal speed' with no slow-motion or freeze frames, these always make things look worse.

If the referee wants a second look at an incident he is unsure about, he should be able to request it and make HIS decision.. There should be no 'big brother' looking over his shoulder looking for his mistakes.

Should also consider each on field captain having one or two challenge reviews (like in cricket) where hey can challenge a decision - but the referee has the final decision.

It has hardly eradicated poor decisions.

If anything it's made it worse. Midgies penis off sides etc.

I don't think fans will accept that human error happens, though. But I think the game was better before. Even with some.of the human error decisions.

I'm ok with goal line technology though.

Nothing wrong with VAR in theory, the problem is human error and the ever changing rules. Bringing it in has made it more difficult as they are now trying to get it absolutely perfect to the millimeter on every decision. Is it a coincidence that there seems to be more injuries than ever before? Players stopping several times a game for minutes at a time, then expected to spring into action! I think we only need goal line technology.

II think the refs are shit BECAUSE of VAR. They basically abdicated responsibility. Over time they've become more and more pointless.
In part but they were making bad decisions long before var. It's just now they have more people involved making those bad decisions.

I just want to celebrate a goal again.

I feel like every goal we score in our system looks borderline offside. Being the pessimistic SOB that I am, I miss the days of going crazy when we score.

The biggest financial league in the world needs to bring in those running VAR successfully in other leagues. Fuck the likes of Ellery, Swarbrick and Howard Webb. They aren't fit to implement it.
I am for getting rid of VAR in this country because I have little faith the old boys club who are incapable of operating it will be shunned by the Premier League.

At this point we have all the side effects of VAR with none of the benefits.

Officiating in England needs full scale reform, and until the standards are world class the PL needs to look to pay big bucks for the best in class that exists abroad.

Keep it if …

automated offsides work. Not sure where this has been trialed and how successful it has been?

No slow motions or stills.

If No decision can be made in 30 seconds Referees decision stands.

Direct feed of sound of vision for the paying supporter.

Personally I would be happy for it to be scrapped. Players make mistakes so why can’t referees? We want fast flowing exciting football and to be able to celebrate in real time.

I’m in favour of temporarily scrapping while they have a proper assessment of what has worked and what hasn’t.

At this stage the negatives far outweigh the positives.

It’s slowed down the game so ridiculously that we don’t even celebrate goals anymore.

Linesmen not flagging offsides has been one of many low points. Watching the game continue after a clear offside knowing it’s not going to count anyway is beyond pathetic.

VAR needs to stop trying to be so precise with the most minimal of decisions has to stop.

They've had 6 years to get it correct and yet it is still the same mess as when it came in. At some point the authorities have to admit that they just can't comes to terms with it.

I'd sacrifice the risk of more poor decisions just to be able to actually celebrate goals properly. I don't enjoy going to games as much as I used to and VAR is a huge part of that. Everyone around me in the stadium hates it too.

This annoys me so much as it can lead to injuries too. players racing back, making last ditch tackles etc

Yes. They've not got rid of any of the 'controversy' but have managed to suck any spontaneity and joy out the game at the same time.

do you think you its made refs worse as now they avoid making decisions.
Refs choose not to make a big decision (e.g. don't award a penalty), then VAR chooses not to overrule this decision to not make a decision. The ref should be able to just tell VAR "I don't know, so I haven't made a decision - you decide for me", instead of VAR only intervening if it meets their ridiculous criteria for "clear and obvious".

I think there are two big factors at play here.

Firstly, the majority of the rules of the game are not precise enough to allow a decision to be made without some degree of interpretation. Therefore slowing it down and watching it over and over again in a booth halfway across the country adds very little to the majority of decisions.

Secondly, the attitude from the players on the field, and the pundits post-match show literally no respect for the referee. This makes their job so much harder, and must dissuade anyone who isn’t able to deal with being publicly humiliated shy away from the job - even if they would be a considerable upgrade on our current set of refs.

Ange has said many times, and I couldn’t agree more, people around the game need to show a bit more class, play to the whistle, and accept the decision on the field. It’s likely other borderline decisions will go in your favour at some point. Take it on the chin like a professional.

Nothing wrong with VAR, it’s the thickos that use it which is the problem.

It really isn’t hard watching the incident and making a quick decision.

Referees and officials need to be more accountable and as others suggest maybe attend seminars together regularly to discuss incorrect decisions.

When a decision is so blatantly bad perhaps they should also have to speak to media after game like the managers do?

It's sat nav for referees but actually, sat nav is generally way more reliable.
