I know Mbeumo is good and has a great record but this is the fourth time I've watched this season and he's been largely ineffective every time.

What am I missing, or am I just watching his bad games?

They have some of that aura Leicester had. Plus teams don't seem to be raising their game against Forest, whereas Liverpool etc is always a big game for opponents.
They play well to their strengths - same as Leicester did.

They have a lot of energy and physicality.

I doubt this game decides whether Arsenal win it. If anything a loss will harden Liverpool more. Plus we're halfway through now, and it's not impossible Forest go the whole way, esp having no European games.

Whenever a team like this outperforms their level by such a huge degree, they inevitably drop off. The only exception I can think of is Leicester City, who coincidentally had us on their tails. Plus that Leicester team actually had some of the league’s best players.

We broke City and I'm wondering now if we (and to an extent Man U) have broken Liverpool.

They are shambolic right now. No where near their level.

If Forest wins I think the Leicester comparison really gains some traction. Maybe only a 3 or 4% chance but who knows. Not having Europe is massive when you consider how strong every PL squad has gotten compared to previous decades.

I think its a mistake to think Forest are playing above their level.

They may not have the household names, but they have players who are all performing their roles in a well-coached team. Teams that have the right players are often better than the sum of the individuals.

Not saying anything contradictory to that, but that when the mental pressure of actually playing for the Premier League title kicks in, then things change. Up till now Forest are not really playing under pressure because they’re outperforming expectations.

Also I think there’s something to be said for a shelf life on teams having success by being a well-drilled unit that is stronger than the sum of the parts, because other teams are constantly analyzing it and adapting and looking for weaknesses. Eventually, IMO, there’s a bit of a mean reversion where the team will fall back down to the level of its players. Think we could be seeing that with Slot’s Liverpool as well, and we saw it with Ange’s Spurs after that first 10 or 11 games that were incredible.

Unless the team is continually adapting, then its way of playing is going to be figured out and exploited by the other teams in the league.
