But it wont win them the league ,so crack on.

Liverpool do what they do best, play great attacking football - a far better set of strengths overall which most likely will win them the league
Where did I say it would win them the league? I see people are having a go at them for playing for corners. They're just going with what works currently. I'm not faulting them for it and considering how often they score from corners you can't deny it works in most matches.

I know people have a blind hatred towards them and everything they do is bad blah blah blah but they found something that works. And I'll credit them and their set piece coach.

I saw an "anti football" comment earlier. Sorry to say there is more than one way to score goals and win in football.

I respected their football a lot more under Wenger, so its not just blind hatred Im afraid.

“Goons and Chav’s right in the think of it” - 7 points off first

Us “cut adrift into mid-table” - 5 points off second with similar GD if we win tomorrow …

But can you honestly see us winning?

Based on our current form, particularly away from home and our record against Chelsea, it is not going to be surprising if the max we get from our next 2 games is 2 points.
If that happens, we are easily then dropping down to 13th after this weekend with what games the teams below us have got and be 9+ points adrift of top 2-4.

Also disagree with this; we hate it, but they play good football when Odegaard is running things. Their issue is they don't have anyone decent to finish chances, so they focus on efficiency from set pieces where they can get the big lads on the end of it.

I still think Liverpool have too talented a squad this season, and outside of their first 11/12, Arsenal's depth is fairly poor, but they're not the anti-football brigade they're being made out to be. Bunch of ****s, for sure, but not quite Stoke 2.0.

The state of Saliba’s celebration after the ball literally hits him on the backside and ricochets in. Absolute whopper.

Celebrate the goal, sure. High-5 your teammates and acknowledge your teammate whose far post header created the chance of a lucky deflection, absolutely. But sprinting off and sliding on your knees as if you’ve just done something special… absolute whopper.

Top 4 taking shape
Yep, it's worrying how competent Chelsea have looked so far. Preferred them being a jumbled mess of random parts all fighting each other for attention.

The way it's shaping up, we're in a battle with anything between five and ten other clubs for that 5th place (what a time to be alive :woot:)

I saw a stat on X yesterday (so must be true) that if you took away all of Arsenals goals scored from corners, they'd be bottom 3...

...I can't be arsed to find out but happy to believe its true... bloody one trick ponies! :ROFLMAO:

They looked a mess but they were happy to take the hit with paying players who won't play a minute. They have 2 players in every position

I saw a quote saying the do not need a coach any more - just keep their set piece specialist

It’s all about the ball in which is consistently excellent. The ball is aimed for a specific spot so the task is to prevent their players getting there.
I really don't understand why it's so difficult for a top level footballer to deliver a great set piece consistently.

Both their goals came from fouls on Utd players and they get away with it. They did the same against the spammers at the weekend and again got away with it. Refs & VAR need to wake up to it
Now they have a reputation of being superb from corners pretty much anything will be fair game on set pieces.

the commentators cream over their set pieces now so it'll be about how good they are and how the opponents can't stop them rather than actually the reason they can't stop them is because they are fouls.

Opposition players need to starting going down more when they are committing the fouls because otherwise they will continue to get away with it.

As much as we moan about it though, it makes you wonder why more teams aren't consistent with set pieces like Arsenal are. You would think some of the lower half teams would try and do the same.

Problem is the narrative is established now. Same as ours that Vicario is “weak” at set pieces so teams can get away with murder at set pieces obstructing them.

Look at the Tarkowski goal that got disallowed for Gueye obstructing someone when there were 3 Wolves players competing with Tarkowski. Never a foul in any circumstances but compare it to what Arsenal will get away with because they’re perceived as just being effective.

I think a part of the problem is they do so much pushing, shoving, blocking and grappling every corner and they get so many damn corners, the refs just think fuck it I can’t call this all game

I reckon teams should put all their outfield players on the goal line and get the keeper to stand in the centre of the goal on the 6 yard line. That'll throw Set Piece FC off. As the corner comes in, outfield players can rush off the line to intercept the ball, whilst the keeper isn't trapped on the line by all the bodies and can't be slyly blocked from getting to the ball by trapping him on the line.

I'm a genius.

It’s all about getting the ball just 2mm over the quadrant next to the corner flag before they take it. Any more or less and it’s a mess.
Seriously who the hell told them they could get away with having the ball hanging over the line. Bloody ridiculous.

Sounds like the trial of the "8 second rule" from PL2 is going to be law by 2026. If you're not familiar with the trial a GK has 8 seconds to put the ball in play or else the opposition gets a corner kick (instead of the crazy indirect free kick). The ref will count down visually from 5 to 0 with their hand.

Personally I think it will be a good change.

If they actually enforce it unlike the six second rule then it's all good.

I think the whole argument is that an indirect free kick six yards from goal is too much of a punishment for the offense. It's also a total nightmare to officiate. By making it a corner kick and having the ref count down from 5 to 0 then the excuse to not enforce it goes away.

... or have the guts to put 3 players on the halfway line. Unless the attacking team is even gutsier, they will have 4 players sit back. That leaves them with only 5 players in the box (1 is taking the corner kick), against our 8, and a less crowded box.

Of course they could stay behind with only 2, but it would still be 8 vs 7, and if Vic get hold of the ball, a long throw would leave us 3 vs 2 om the counter🥳 It would be so Ange to do this 😄
