Look what happens when you try shots from outside the box,
We didn’t have one until Kulu in about the 90th minute today
Used our season allocation of those against Newcastle.

This generation of players won’t be able to walk age 45 the amount of matches they have to play.

Shearers knees are gone and that was a generation who played less matches , although recovery and technology has improved to counter that a bit.
Was worse back in Shearers generation, more teams in the league (22) plus competitions like the league cup having 2-legged games in the 2nd round

Take Man Utd as an example (they made it to FA cup final in both seasons)

1994/95 - Top appearances = Steve Bruce (55 games)

Last season - Top appearances = Andre Onana (51 games)

Whilst medicine and treatments have significantly improved with the relentless football, almost throughout the year, every year, more career ending injuries are inevitable. Particularly for players from the high pressure PL will also inevitably lead to player burnout. Squads will have to get bigger and will have to be used or else.

This will mean the mega rich clubs will control competitions even more than they already do.

Having a look at some stats today in the premier league for the season so far, 4 games is a small sample size, but we have played 2 teams we should beat & 2 we should be competing with so it should be relatively balanced. More interested to see after 10 games for example so not reading much into them. These are some interesting ones ive found so far.
Defence:
- 1st in tackles in attacking third (Also 1st last year, our press is still really good)
- 19th in mistakes leading to an opponent shot (1st last year, early in the season, but a good sign our transition defence is improving)
- 1st in opponents intercepting our passes (1st last year. A long way behind our rivals)
- 4th in opponents tackling us in their attacking third (Suggests we are not good at getting out from the back when pressed, rivals are tackled half the amount of times as us so far)

Passing:
-1st in Progressive passes
-1st in crosses into 18 yard box ( 12th last year, probably an uptick because opponents have let us have the ball)
-2nd in passes into 18 yard box
- 1st in Teams have the lowest passing completed %s against by a long way. 73.2%

Goal & shot creation:
-16th in Goal Creating Actions (Rivals are all 1-6). Clearly a major issue right now.
-3rd in Goal expected per shot on goal against us (not good, 0.45xg per shot on goal)

Misc:
-20th in GK long balls by a LONG way. Vic has only played 9 long balls all season, next lowest is 29.

Check out fbref if you want to have a look through some. Most of it meaningless really, and most of it just shows the eye test to be true. Don't create enough chances/good chances & the ones we concede are high probability goals

Very interesting and personally find it hard to disagree with him. I fear he'll get a load of "you're getting paid well for it/I suffer at work so should you" type flack, but players are absolutely getting wrung out.
Whilst i agree with the sentiment, will the players be willing to take a paycut to enable less football?

That's also an issue. Managers have so little job security (with Pep the obvious exception) that they don't rotate enough.
Pep said he always plays Rodri because they lose if he’s not playing. Seems to have stopped this season.
They will always play their best team if they can , they have to win the games.

would be good if both teams could lose in that early game.

6x 3pm games. Wonder if they will choose us for Goal Rush. Probably Liverpool...

Wow. What a mess. How can you have 3 centre halves and concede to a ball through the middle 40 yards out.
