The disappointment on Dane Scarlet face last night with that header miss/save was gut wrenching ,seemed like he could see the writing on the wall with Lankshear cameo

I think next season we are going to have to think thoroughly about who we loan out. After adding Bergvall and Gray, we have too many top talents to give them all meaningful minutes and the PL2 seems too easy now for a few of them.

It seems a little unfair as I'd trust any of them in the Europa and a few of them in the league too, but if we and they want to take their potential and make it reality then a good loan move will be the best route.

Excuse the stupid question but when you say next season do you mean the 2025/26 season?

Clever git.

I'm going to be pedantic and say technically we aren't in a season just yet so next season is the one that starts in August.

No problem. I suppose we are in pre season which implies this season hasn’t started but I always think it’s from July to June.

To your original point I think Donley and Devine both need to go out on loan. Although maybe we keep one of them here until January to play early Europa Leagie and Carabao cup games and then reassess how much potential game time they will get in the second half of the season.

I am going to be pedantic and say that technically the 24/25 officially began on July 1, 2024 - per the league calendar.

Games are not scheduled until August - but the season has already begun...

Applying the eye test

Devine, Donley, Moore, Philips, Lankshear, Dorrington, Hall all look like they have the tools to really make it. Scarlett doesn’t imo

Different type of striker, and tbh I never really understood the point of getting Veliz. if I'm honest, I never saw the potential.

I've said it numerous times but imo Lankshear and Moore will be the two that really excel. This isn't saying others like Donley and Hall won't do very well, I just think these two are a cut above. The more I watch them at various levels the more I am convinced of that.

Veliz along with Lucas Beltran were the most talked about performing forward in in Argentina that season- Beltran is in Fiorentina. Veliz is proper no9 material, with most of his goals coming in as headers. But I dont think we have given him that kind of service.

If Veliz has a injury less season and a decent team to play in (England or Spain), he will score as well. At the very least we should get good money for him then

And?

Again having watched as much as I can of him I don't see it. As I've said many times when I'm scouting I don't look at stats or media reports etc, I watch players, and I just don't see anything special with this kid. Watching a striker with real quality, something will always stand out even when they are way off their best. Even if it's something simple like how they take the ball on the half turn in crowded areas, or how they are checking their surroundings before moving late into space. I look for the simple things because for me the very best players are the ones who do the very simple things the best.

Just don't see it in Veliz regardless of what hype he had in Argentina. Only time will tell I guess, but I would be surprised if he's anywhere near Lankshear in a few years.

Veliz chief selling point seemed to be that he was physically precocious. That doesn’t always translate into mature quality. I am sure he’ll have a decent career, but Lankshear and Scarlett excite me more. Scarlett I still think is quality, he just needs to play regularly to rebuild his confidence.

Certainly a lot for Scarlett to do at this point but nothing a bit of hard work and mental coaching couldn't improve.

He almost looked like he was going to cry when he missed that header the other day.

Needs to find his smile again, if that makes any sense?

Looks like he's carrying the world on his shoulders and that won't be helping his finishing etc.

To me he seems rushed currently like he's over thinking everything. I'd put him in Belgium or Holland for the season in the hope he'll score a shit load and develop as a player, whatever happens with him he needs a loan where he'll play, score and progress.

This thread is great reading at the moment. Would be unreal to see a couple of the young lads kick on this season, nothing like it

100% that feeling of pressure, whether internal or external and persistent worry this is my chance can be very limiting.

Often leads to snatching at chances, committing fouls etc. Hopefully he will regain confidence and then see his form improve.
