Always love reading through pre-season reviews. You get a nice blend of people who are grateful to have a bit of Spurs back and getting an early look at some of the kids (often for the first time since last years pre-season) and the rival camps of "we won 5-1 we're going to win the league" vs " four of those goals were against the 2nd 11 for a Scottish team"

My take:
It's encouraging to see the style and fluidity we're looking to implement across all levels. It's so nice to see in stark contrast to the low-risk plodding football we've seen from England over the past month. If these boys can help to drive each other forward there can only be good things in the future.

My only disappointment is that nobody's mentioned Roma yet... could be that I'm getting old and the next generation have different coping mechanisms to manage expectations.

Me watching as Trix gets negged to hell and proceeds to double down and triple down on the unpopular viewpoint:

Carl Sagan: "It is far better to grasp the universe football as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."

I presume that doesn’t include Richarlison as he’s not been training due to injury(?). If so, it means Lankshear has been more impressive than Veliz and Scarlett, which is encouraging for Lankshear but a bit worrying re Veliz.

Lankshear looked good last night though.

Different type of striker, and tbh I never really understood the point of getting Veliz. if I'm honest, I never saw the potential.

I've said it numerous times but imo Lankshear and Moore will be the two that really excel. This isn't saying others like Donley and Hall won't do very well, I just think these two are a cut above. The more I watch them at various levels the more I am convinced of that.

The ball just finds some guys in dangerous positions. Lankshear and Moore seem to have that trait.

It's a weird one re. Veliz. It must take a fair amount of resources to scout and then bring over talent from South America. Veliz is still young and was unlucky with the injury so hopefully he still has plenty of scope to develop, but from what we've seen now, meh.

To look on the brightside it's great to hear about Lankshear and I hope we will get to see a lot more of him.

I think Lankshear was one we wanted to keep at the club this season anyway - to ensure he becomes club trained for 3 years. Good that he is impressing.

Could save us a lot of money in the long and short term if Lankshear can fill the striker role

Agree. But it also shows how badly we need another striker (although I appreciate I’m a broken record on that though). That’s not a slight on Lankshear either.

Ange is not going to change his system. He certainly knows that playing his way his teams are open to the counteract but he reckons that playing his way his teams will score more goals and have more of the ball so that the opposition cannot attack.

As for me, all I know is that I enjoyed going to the games last year very much more than at any time in the last 25 years other than the peak Poch years.

For sure the personnel can be improved and the patterns of play can be better coached but the team is moving forward on the right lines.

And isn’t it exciting having all this young talent!
Not sure you meant to quote me here?
It sounds like you are replying to @cookiemonster but I agree with what you're saying. 👍

Great performance from the young players last night and great promise for the future but you have to take the level of opposition into account in the 2nd half.
Unless there is a severe injury crisis I very much doubt any of them will start against Leicester in the first proper game, maybe one or two on the bench but managers and coaches will bring young talents on slowly and not rush them.

Regardless of the quality of the opposition, the movement and hustle of the youngsters was quite exciting. Bergvall sprinting to space after making a pass, Lankshear continuing his run to draw a defender away from Moore before his goal, Spence busting his hump up and down the pitch...it was all just lovely to see.

I agree with your sentiment overall, but Djed at 23 (24 in 3 weeks' time) is a relative veteran in all that. He's older than Sarr, Van der Ven, Dragusin, etc.

edit: and Skipp(!)
