I believe the issue is that Eriksen and Vertonghen are reluctant to play and want moves. Leaves Poch in a difficult position

I don't think that is the case at all. CE has publicly made it clear that he would like a new challenge, and as such if the opportunity arises, he'd like to go. He hasn't at any point refused to play or the like, as far as we know.

Jan has been angling for a new contract (which he by all means deserve), and has not at any point said that he wanted out. Leaving him out is on Poch, and Poch only.

I think it is has dawned on the players what a start of a new project means for them. It doesn't matter that they are good players now - MP wants to know how good they'll be in 2024.

Even if we believe MP can work his magic again, and create another exciting young team, why should Kane hang around another 3 years. He wants trophies now. No-one is safe.

MP needs to be open and honest in his next presser and tell us what is going on.
Alternatively let Vertonghen take on the duty and tell us about his black eye.

Pochettino is speaking out of the other side of his mouth with this transfer window bullshit excuse. Here are some quotes from him in April 2018:

"It's a massive advantage for us for it to finish [our business] before the start of the season. For us, it's massive," Pochettino told Standard Sport.
"It's fantastic because now [the window closes] before the start of the season – not one month later."
"Of course, for many clubs it will not change too much but for us it is going to change a lot. We're going to have the squad ready before the start of the season. It's more helpful because they're going to have more time to adapt and help the team"
"You're going to win an extra month with them and it's massive. We don't need to wait for anything. We need today - no, yesterday! - to start to work to try to sign players. It's going to be very helpful for Tottenham.

“It is not impossible to the win the title," he added. "We need to start the season better. It’s not the right way for the club to start if you want to win big things as you will miss a few months. When you miss a few months in this competitive league it is so difficult to reduce the gap."

So he has said exactly the opposite thing about the transfer deadline just over a year ago. He was right then. I don't know why he's repeatedly going on about this now - Spurs voted to shut the window before the season started, with Poch's public comments in support of that vote.
I doubt he imagined we'd potentially be losing players after the window shut. Now the reality of the side effects has hit he has changed his mind. The ideal solution is all windows shut before the first kick off but it won't happen.

He's not naive and nor are the Premier League clubs. He'd have to be at a clownish level of understanding if he didn't realize European business would continue after ours shut, including outgoings from England.

The fact is, the current window opening in Europe is a *benefit* to us when we want to ship out NKoudou, Wanyama, Edwards, and Shashoua. There's no point griping about bids coming in for other players. Either accept or reject those bids, and the Eriksen situation has been ongoing since the Champions League final - probably before then.

I also notice Diego Simeone has been calling on the Spanish window to shut before their season kicks off, using almost identical reasoning to Poch a year ago. The Premier League should hold tough to its position, and Poch should just move on from using it as an excuse.

Simeone-
"I think all the managers would love it, like it happens in England," he said.

"If I am not wrong, all of them have the squad built when the competition starts.

"It would be mentally healthier for everyone being focused on the guys who will play. Now we have to wait until September 2 as there can be updates."

Think this all boils down to we thought Eriksen would be sold in the summer. There was ITK saying watch Madrid in January I believe. I have no doubts we thought Eriksen would have been sold at a healthy price which we would have re invested in the squad.

Alas we are now in a position where he either gets sold below value and we cannot invest until January at the earliest or end up with another of our best players running their contract down.

Asked if there was an Arsenal player he would have liked to coach or play against, Poch said: “I would love to play against Paul Merson, so I could kick.” #THFC #COYS #AFC

Great article in the Independent:

Hits the nail on the head as to what is wrong at the club

It's a podcast not an article.

You mean they speculate as to what is happening. I don't mind Delaney, but all he says is he doesnt want to be there.

I unsubscribed from this after the first one of the season, they have lost Ed Malyon and Jack PB to the Athletic and it shows.

The most unforgivable thing is that they are employing Tony Evans, even more biased than Carragher. Just writes Liverpool puff pieces. Has zero credibility after his assurances that a Chinese consortium was going to take Liverpool over pre-FSG. Twat.

Yeah, interesting comment. Kinda implies something was going on between them but all good now thankfully.
