I said at the time its Pochs fault. We get away with a near miss of our own creation every bloody match.
Its not rocket science to see when its safe to play out from the back and when it isnt but almost every team tries to play out from the back regardless of the danger present.
And evey week we see about 5 or more goals conceded by teams that are of their own doing.
Hate to agree with that shite Paul Merson but I'd argue there are a lot more goals conceded by trying to play out from the back ALL THE TIME than there are scored by passing your way up the entire length of the pitch past 11 players.

Hugo's an excellent reaction keeper, but doesn't make good decisions - he's always been that way, and I think many of us concede that we've kept him for so long due to these shortcomings.

Playing out from the back is dependent on having one of the freak goalkeepers who can pass well, which is why (so say) Pep binned off Hart before he'd given him a chance, and mostly struggled until they got Edersen.

Absolutely pointless asking Hugo to play in a way he just can't; he's not at an age where we should expect him to improve things he's never had in his locker.

What's funny to me is when we signed him, he was ahead of his time in how brave he was coming off of his line and playing that way, now he's lagging behind the modern keeper in that regard. Just a shame for me really that I was critical of Arsenals choice to give the captaincy to a player who has poor judgement on the pitch, only for Hugo to show similarly poor judgement.

Good management by deflecting attention.

Playing out from the back is fine, trying to Cruyff turn a striker 2 yards in front of your own goal is not. That is not starting play from the back, it’s massive reckless and I’m sure he’ll be told that I’m private.

Fair play to Poch for sticking by his players, but he didn't ask Hugo to perform Cruyff turns virtually on his own goal line.
Hugo showed what a top class keeper he really is in the second half though, and showed great mental strength to fight back.
Hoping that its a turning point in our season...……………...

Trouble is, Hugo's long kicking is pretty awful as well. He always seems to balloon the ball up in the air which puts the receiver under much more pressure. It's pretty tiresome having at least one 'heart in the mouth' moment every bloody game though.

All of his kicking is awful on both feet. Has no power so cannot make half way line. What pisses me off most is that non o f the coaching team have come up with plans on how to deal with it. His shot stopping is excellent. He is not great at pens though. Time to move on sad to say. If it was any other position on the pitch we would be slaughtering him.

I thought he saved at least 2 pens last season - one in the north London derby in the last minute.
Agreed on his kicking though.

High risk high reward
Unfortunately it becomes more a High Risk, High chance of god-almighty calamitous balls up.

It would be nice if we could stop the madcap daftness in the games. It really is the only major drawback we've had.

Even though we come close I don't remember many goals being conceded when we play out from the back.
