On his day, at his best, he can play the position really well. Unfortunately his 'at his best' performances come maybe 2 or 3 times per season.

This guy is a complete enigma. When he signed I was sure he’d be a world beater. Classy operating, CDM who could put a foot-in but also drive us forward.

Years later, a shit load of injuries and the odd purple patch aside, is he really the answer?

Bissouma for me, has been a major let down in terms of the upgrade I thought we were signing.

He never seems to “partner well” either. Like, who plays well alongside him?

Yeah he's not good enough for me, doesn't do enough, isn't consistent enough and if we are to reach the 'next level' we need to get rid, or just use him as a squad player in cup games.

Wow, no recognition for the match winning goal line clearance (sorry if it was in the match thread but I was at the game)

Can't believe there's been nothing on this thread since full time.

Absolutely brilliant tonight. So brave on the ball. If we can get the Brighton Bissouma and early days Bentancur both firing we'll be laughing.

He played his heart out with real quality and determination amidst that chaos.

It’s funny, I thought he was relatively poor in the 1st half but he was everywhere in the 2nd.

probably having sarr and Bents with him freed him up vs that disaster of a midfield in the 1st.

we need to loan out Bergval to continue his development and bring in a more experienced 8 to share the load with Sarr (or another 6 so Bentancur can play further up)

That 1st half midfield must have been a disaster to play in. Defenders and attackers both just turning over possession over and over and only Bergvall for support.

Bissouma was as much to blame for that as either Maddison or Bergvall. I thought he was a huge part of the problem in the first half.

My main problem with Bissouma not just last night, but in general, is that he’s far too loose with the ball. Sometimes it pays off for him and he doesn’t lose it, but a lot of the time it means we turn over the ball in midfield far more than we need to.

He did improve in the second half, but let’s face it, the damage had already been done by then and Galatasary weren’t pressing us anywhere near with the same intensity. Yet there were still plenty of occasions where he gave up the ball really cheaply, either through poor control, or by taking on one too many players.

I have to be honest, I was really surprised to see people in here actually praising his performance last night. I thought he was poor.

Gray should be our option at 6 and Bergvall is fine as our 4th option at 8 imo. Not getting Spence in the Europa squad is a proper head fuck.

Shout out to his game management today. I was slating him in the match thread when he got booked after 15 seconds, and I still feel he’s far too loose with the ball at times.

However he did superbly to manage the entire game on a booking, while still doing well to break up their attacks and have a positive effect on the game.

I was just coming to dig out this thread to give him praise.

Essentially played the entire game on a yellow and still put in a lot of great tackles. Also looked to be playing the peacemaker in a few of the scuffles going on, despite the commentators talking about him being involved in a negative manner.

Yeah certainly made me eat my words after the first ten minutes of the game. Really well done to him.

It was a terrible decision by the ref to book him. It was a soft foul.

He looked like a man who had taken on extra responsibility today. He was brilliant all game and will know he needs to step up and make the spot his own with no Bentancur.

A yellow after 14 seconds I thought the writing was on the wall but that was top class for the other 94 minutes and 46 seconds.
