Yeah, of course. If it's a bad challenge then yeah it's probably a yellow.

But I'm specifically talking about tackles like Bissouma's. It was just late, that's all.
I think the difference here is that Bissouma was late AND left his leg out on purpose to clip Damsgaard. At least that's how it looked to me, and the ref I guess.

Either way, it was a very disciplined performance from that moment on. He looked great.

I’m back to growing in confidence with him. Would love to see him start Thursday and stake his claim for the weekend

Depending on what the FA do with Bentancur, it might not take much to stake a claim...

(I think Ange prefers Bissouma to Bentancur anyway, when both are fit)

I don’t think Ange makes much of a distinction between opponents. He seems to go with who he thinks is his best XI and wants the opposition to react.
He didn't make 9 changes to the starting line up against Coventry just because he thought they were now the best XI. Of course he makes a distinction depending on opponents, he'll mix things up accordingly.

Really got to see the duality of Bissouma tonight. Some amazing challenges, dribbling out of situations that he had no right to be getting out of and probably deserved an assist. He coupled that with some god awful passes into their midfielders and some dodgy moments where he looked out of position.

The good far far far outweighed the bad tonight, he was back to his silky best for large parts of the match.

But a player who can do all the defensive stuff all by himself AND pick a psss consistently is out of our price range.

I thought he was excellent today at his primary role - putting out fires.

He definitely had his weetabix this morning!

Thought he played well today. Glad to see him chipping in with more goals. We'll definitely need him to be in form when they eventually confirm Bentancur's ban.

He wasn't notably poor, but the lack of a really good defensive shield between the back 4 who play on at all costs and the other 2 more attacking midfielders is a big reason we struggle to counter opposition presses.

He had a few chances to half turn today - his big asset last year - and he couldn't pull it off.

An upgrade is desperately needed. Someone in the prime Wanyama mould who has legs to run all day, is strong in the tackle, can drop into a defensive three and is solid on the ball.

He is actually naturally an 8, I don't understand why he has never been played there.

Palace was exactly the kind of game where he could have been pushed up with Bentancaur behind him,.

He's not a bad player, but his major flaw is a lack of variety and quality in his passing. The fact that he can only really progress up the field by beating his man makes him predictable, and one dimensional.

Just cut off the forward passing lane and he ends up playing slow, predictable sideways passes. Bentancur is far superior in this regard.

His job is actually impossible in this system. I actually thought he was one of the better ones today.
This. He’s constantly getting pressed by 2/3 players yet Vicario/CBs still proceed to pass to him.

Yes he’s good enough to wriggle free but he’s not going to be able to do it every single time.

He dithers on the ball as well. Simply put he's just not a good enough footballer to play that role the way Ange wants it played. Always on the half turn and under pressure.

This is fully intentional though. It's supposed to be the way we play through the press.
