Why? We have our development player so then it's the question of who are the game changing wingers, who have the right profile that are available. Not pretty good ones, who then become our next deadwood. The list, I'm guessing is minute and the ones we really want either don't want us or are too expensive, like Nico Williams.
Neto was never coming to us once Chelsea sniffed. Not because we wouldn't pay but because Mendes got a sniff of getting a pay day from 3 deals, Gallagher, Felix, Neto. That's how he works.
I think you also have to factor in Ange's desire for players who really want to be at Spurs - not just willing to and the list is quite possibly an empty one.

I'm not saying it's the case, but if Chiesa thought he should be at one of the genuine big boys and Neto goes where he is told then who is left?

Eze is probably the one I really wish we had pushed the boat out for (yes, I know he's not a winger) but who knows if he really wanted to come or if it was all about the financials.

For me, I'm excited to see our youngsters hopefully grow and mature into something special, so am happy(ish) that they will be inconsistent.

We could have got Neto if we moved sooner and Chieza too. And Eze is not a winger but he can play wide left or wide right as well as a 10.
I think you are being unrealistic with what we can afford.
Solanke's already 60m+, and i can't remember the last time we had 2 60m+ players in 1 window. Its rare even for better clubs than ours.
Richy's also at those price levels.
We are spending money already to renew this sqaud.
We are not Chelsea. We can't spend to win. It isn't our way anyway.

Aren't our first choice front 3 Son, Solanke and Johnson/Kulu? So all this talk of Odobert being bought as a starter is wide of the mark (insert quip here). Isn't he here, at least initially, to play backup to Son?

Not really. We could have bought Eze instead of Gray and Odobert . And Neto for less than that. We needed game changers . And we didn’t buy any.

Kulu is playing more centrally this season so really Odobert has been brought in as rotation for Son and Johnson from what I can see. He has had to play in the last two matches because Son has had to cover in the striker position.

I'd much, much rather have Gray than Eze if I had to choose between them - Odobert also looks good but Gray is going to be a world class midfielder and one of our most important players over the next decade. You either sign Gray now like we did or you wait a year or two and can no longer afford him.

Much rather this than "how do City keep doing it? It's so unfair. We can't compete." etc etc in a season or two.

I dont know what we could have bought. I dont work in football.
However I dont think Neto is a game changer. He isn't very productive and is injury-prone.
I'm neutral on Eze.

I dont think our failure to win in the last few games is a personnel problem. Our players are good enough to win.
However key players haven't performed; Son + Maddison.
Also we still can't defend when we lose the ball.
These are problems for Ange to solve imo.

No one knows if he was bought to be our starter or not but it appears going by Ange’s team selections that he see’s the talent there and is willing to go through the growing pains of inconsistent end product because he believes we’ll reap the benefits at the end of it. I think that’s a positive, if you trust the managers judgement that is? I’d be inclined to agree with his decision tbh. I think Odobert’s talent and likely potential will see him become a considerably better player out wide for us than the likes of Johnson and Kulusevski medium to long term.

The lad has only been with us 2 weeks..had a good debut and looked ok…he needs time to adjust to our style. I think Ange will switch wingers per game

It’s ridiculous that we have to pin our hopes on a 19 year old.
We shouldn't. There are plenty of reasons to be excited about this squad - Odobert is one of them but it's not like the 90s where we only had Ginola to rely on to get us excited.

This, i think he will be great in that role that Johnson does so well for us of that halftime sub to run at tiredish legs and keep our press going strong. Our press eventually slows down around the 75th minute mark because no team can possibly keep that type press up all match long barring inhaler using liverpool lol. But I digress, i do think he will be great in this sub role and can hopefully take that torch from Son in a year or two for the LW position.

The issue is that front 3 is too flawed and needed to be improved out wide. The wide players lack the necessary technical ability, 1v1 ability, close control and link play etc that we need.

Odobert has those skills but at 19 lacks the necessary experience and decision making to consistently utilise them.

We need his profile in the starting 11 but we should have signed a more established version for the first 11 at RW and had Odobert as the younger signing who rotates in with Son.

Could we? I'm a massive fan of Eze but once Palace sold Olise and could play hardball by demanding the entirety of his release fee up-front the likelihood of him going anywhere fell drastically. Not many clubs in the world can stump up £60-odd million in a single lump sum.

Have to remember Son has started up front so Odobert has come in for him on the left. Not sure he would have started these 2 games had Solanke been fit. I think he would have started on the bench and given time but fair play to him he has taken the role on and not looked nervous. Just lacking end product and if we're being honest we probably should see him as the successor to Son more than a starter. He has the right profile to replace Son I feel. Great pace, comfortable with both feet, shots from range. If he can develop his scoring instincts in the box he'll be a top player. I think if Solanke plays with Son left he's scoring a couple of chances from crosses. Just because he has those forward instincts to attack the far post and I think just instinctively heads it far post where Odobert went with his foot.

clubs have avoided risk this window, anyone with perceived attitude problems, or long-term injury problems and anyone on high wages have struggled to be sold.

chelsea are the only club who seem prepared to ignore these issues
