We identified him early, then had to go through some steps, ie missing out on our other targets, and then it happened quickly

I really don't think our target list is/was that linear, as in targets 1, 2 and then 3.

We'll have a selection of targets in each required position and as long as we get one of them, it's a success.
A lot depends on where we're spending elsewhere, for example, if we'd landed Doue or Neto for near 60m, we may well have switched striker to someone like Giminez.
That doesn't mean that Giminez or Solanke was first or second choice, it's just a fluid way of filling what we need with the money we have.

We've a lot to do and only a finite budget, so we were never going to buy two or three 60m players.

We certainly should be able to buy 2. We've culled our wage bill enormously in the last year.

Agree and when Ange says ‘one we identified early on’ that’ll mean as an option not as the one we will go for.

Its pretty clear we were working out which bigger money signing we could get over the line out of Eze, Neto and Solanke and we’d adapt the rest of the budget after that.

I wonder how our fans would feel if we’d signed say Neto or Eze and Jonathan David as our combination instead of Solanke & Odobert, would people be happier or less happy with such an outcome?

A couple of the ITK's early in the window were talking about how things were going to be fluid. Due to HG requirements etc we had to do things in a certain order, but there were two offensive positions that we really wanted to improve upon; a 2 way winger (Neto) and an AM that could play wide (Eze).

I'm not 100% sure if Wilson is the Neto or the Eze alternative. Maybe we won't know until later down the line, but it does feel like we will still need another winger at some point.

I assume he got his work permit and can play tomorow? Can't wait to see him
He has been training - so I assume a work permit is required before he can even do that.

But it sounds like he will be in the team tomorrow - not sure if he will be starting though.

And it'll probably add up to that by the end of the window because Solanke, Gray and Odobert already equate to two 60m signings (give or take) and we're looking to add maybe 2 more yet.

I don't think it's a matter of how much a players costs looked at individually, it's about how they fit and affect the rest of the moves we can make.
We can't just be buying players to have a warm body anymore, we've got to buy players who will have an impact now and for the future.

Quite like the idea of him getting the first hour or so and then Johnson coming on to run at a very tired full back.

This is a good question.
I'm personally quite happy with Odobert because he seems to fit exactly what we were after.
He's younger and doesn't have the injury concerns of Neto and while Eze is a superb player, he just doesn't quite solve our problems right now because he's not the wide player we need.

I wouldn't be surprised if the impact Gray and Bergvall have had has also shifted our focus somewhat, in regards to our business plan.

Granted, there are a lot of questions and we still need more but even if that's it for us, I wouldn't say it's a disappointing window overall.
Not great but certainly not bad.
