Yeah, I’m not even sure how we are going to fit in Yang when he joins. I am however surprised that we wont bring in one more developed attacker (excluding CF) considering we went into the market looking at Eze and Neto who are both very established.

I'm personally not expecting anything of Yang for at least 2-3 seasons.

It's going to be a massive adaptation period for him as he's still very young.

I think we'll target a more established wide forward next summer when Werner leaves.

God damn I love outta nowhere signings like this.

That sums up pretty much every signing we’ve made over the past year. At best our interest in the player surfaces or resurfaces 24-48hrs before the deal happens.

Please let’s try to remember this next time we start panicking about the lack of ITK and media reporting. Yesterday was absolutely embarrassing. I think it’s more important than ever that we withhold judgement till the end of the window (and that includes jumping to conclusions that he is our only winger signing). With the greatest of respect to everyone who shares info, I think even they would be the first to admit that no one these days has an up-to-date inside track on all of the inner workings at the club.

SC is a fishbowl and it’s very easy to lose perspective. All I’ve heard about all summer long on here is Neto, Eze and Doue but there’s been nowhere near as much noise or importance placed on those targets outside of our bubble. In the meantime we’ve actually and factually signed 4 players, broken our transfer record and have become one of the most active and highest spending clubs for the third window running - but that’s practically ignored or forgotten about.

I bet we don't see that front three once during the season.
I´ll take that bet. I would be kind of surprised if we not for one single second during the whole season, including cup comp games vs "easy" opposition, will have all of these three on the pitch at the same time.

Add the usual Spurs injuries, bookings, etc - my guess it will happen somewhere between December 1st and February 28th.

Wouldn´t it be great fun if they then absolutely smashed it?! 😍

I think he's so two-footed that there is room for him to improve. So let's see.

Clear that we had Neto as top option (established player) followed by Doue, Nusa, Bardghji, Odobert and players more based on potential. With Odobert being the most attainable for different reasons.

But yes, I want to see us really get that energetic midfielder now and I will be far more content than I was a couple of days ago.
Yeah there was definitely the Eze and Neto top two targets, a list of possible CF then a sub category of young picks. From the outside it looks like we pivoted to an established striker and a prospect versatile young winger when Eze/Neto fell through but I am somewhat surprised that we aren’t going to bring in a more established technically astute natural right winger considering our needs going into the window.

Obv the window isn’t shut yet and still a lot can happen but at a guess it will ether be a CM, maybe Locatelli if juve get desperate, or Hermoso as the final pick.

Kompany comments from May:

"I will almost refrain from what I really think about him, because at this moment in time, I don’t think people realise how good he is. He’s still playing in a team that is playing for survival, but the things he’s able to do, whether it’s defending or whether it’s attacking…like I said I will refrain from what I really think because I don’t want to jinx it, I don’t want to create a situation where the expectations become too big for him too soon.”

It was probably also an evaluation of where we’d get the most value for our money, while still getting those traits we’re after in the player.

Seems a smart enough compromise. I suppose the season will tell.

I don't know him but I'm happy that we've moved so quickly. I'm sure there's a pretty good data supporting why he's a good choice.

Went out for a run (at my age and level of fitness, more of a protracted shuffle) and when I got back we'd signed him!

Never heard of him, but then I didn't know about Vicario, VdV or Udogie before we go them either, so hopefully it's more of the same.

What a morning... WOW haha

What's interesting to me is as someone who has not watched much Burnley in the last year, is how potentially these prospects fall "under the radar" to some of the names that people want. For example, I think of someone like Nusa or Doue (Doue might be a generational talent btw) but they have had some more time to show glimpses of what they can do at their respective clubs. Where here, it seems that Odobert had a promising season at Troyes, Burnley did the research and took the chance, and then he had a season of PL football as an 18/19 year old where he shows promise but for a side that is battling for their life in terms of relegation. I guess my point is, if he had stayed at Troyes another season, would he have had created MORE demand in this window?

I love the data driven approach. To me, it seems like he was in a list of targets that profile similarly - Doue, Neto, Williams, etc. The Burnley fans, Kompany, and those who watch him more than myself all seem to rate him. The next big test, is as a club that has the ball a lot more than Burnley does, will he be able to keep his dribbling numbers where they were last season and take that next step? Excited to see how it pans out.

Ok I was initially underwhelmed but looking up more about the guy and knowing our data led approach I’ve come round to feeling this is a good signing.

Credit where it's due to Lange, this is fantastic signing.

I'm absolutely delighted

Very surprised Burnley have sold him.

Thought he was excellent against us.

Fantastic technique, quick, two good feet. Good profile fit.

Probably a reason we rushed the announcement without the usual social media graphics.

Which I assume is to make the 12pm deadline to register him for Monday.

Because he's one for the now. Only going to get better.

Very very good signing. Result!

I meant that won't be our starting line-up which seemed to be what your post was predicated on.

Either way I think all three are very astute signings in their own way and have helped strengthen our options in attack.

I still want us to sign Sander Berge, who has had such an odd career imo. But was anyone else impressed with Odobert? I thought he was so much better than any of our attackers. He looked like a potential star to me.

Never heard of him before but I watched the Luton - Burnley game the other night and saw his goal, outpaced the defender, I'd assumed the defender was slow but who knows, and he took it really well, through the keeper's legs but that was because he hit it quickly on the run before the keeper could set himself, always a good thing to see in a forward.

One big plus is whilst he's not exactly Prem proven (its only been one season), he is Prem tested.

He's played in one of the toughest leagues around and done incredibly well.
